Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 7/07/08

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 9.64 million, CBS: 7.31, Fox: 7.17, NBC: 5.55, CW: 1.12

-Adults 18-49:
ABC: 3.4 rating/10 share, CBS and Fox: 2.1/ 6 each, NBC: 1.7/ 5, CW: 0.5/ 1

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
The Bachelorette (ABC), Two and a Half Men R (CBS), House R (Fox), The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose (ABC)

-Yesterday’s Losers:
American Gladiators (NBC), Nashville Star (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
A night of The Bachelorette led ABC to Monday victory, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. CBS was second in both categories (and tied with Fox among adults 18-49), with NBC fourth and the CW, of course, fifth.

The two-hour The Bachelorette season-finale scored an above-average (and dominant) 9.48 million viewers and a 3.3 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., building in every half-hour as follows:

The Bachelorette (ABC)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 8.01 million (#1), A18-49: 2.7/ 9 (#1)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 8.95 million (#1), A18-49: 3.1/10 (#1)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 9.77 million (#1), A18-49: 3.5/10 (#1)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 11.19 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/11 (#1)

That led into special The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose at an also first-place 9.96 million viewers and a 3.7/10 in the demo from 10-11 p.m. Yes, this is still apparently interest in this nonsense.

Fox opened the evening with a repeat of Bones at 6.45 million viewers (#2) and a 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#4) at 8 p.m., followed by a repeat of House at 7.89 million viewers (#3) and a 2.6/ 7 in the demo (#3) at 9 p.m. Growth of 62 percent in adults 18-49 for House out of Bones is worthy of positive mention. As a reminder, House moves to Tuesday at 8 p.m. and Bones Wednesday at 8 p.m. this fall.

CBS, also in an all encore evening, opened with The Big Bang Theory at a third-place 5.06 million viewers and a 1.8/ 6 among adults 18-49, followed by How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #4, 5.35 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 6), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 9.11 million; A18-49: #2, 2.9/ 8), another installment of The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #3. 6.97 million; A18-49: #3, 2.3/ 6) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 8.46 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 6). As I say every week, it really is a pity more viewers have not discovered laugh-out-loud The Big Bang Theory this summer.

Despite airing all originals, NBC left little to be desired with its combination of American Gladiators (Viewers: #4, 5.30 million; A18-49: #2, 1.9/ 6), Nashville Star (Viewers: #4, 5.35 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 4) and Dateline (Viewers: #3, 5.99 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 5), which is splattered everywhere this summer. The CW capped off the evening with repeats of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 1.20 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2), which has not found new viewers outside of the traditional season, and veteran One Trill Hill (Viewers: #5, 1.04 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1). I do think, however, that Gossip Girl will pick up some steam next season.

To keep you interested, here is the new Monday schedule beginning in September (with new shows in caps):

ABC
8:00 p.m. Dancing With the Stars
9:30 p.m. Samantha Who?
10:00 p.m. Boston Legal (new day, final season)

CBS
8:00 p.m. The Big Bang Theory
8:30 p.m. How I Met Your Mother
9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men
9:30 p.m. WORST WEEK
10:00 p.m. CSI: Miami

NBC
8:00 p.m. Chuck
9:00 p.m. Heroes
10:00 p.m. MY OWN WORST ENEMY

Fox
8:00 p.m. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (new time)
9:00 p.m. Prison Break (new time)

CW
8:00 p.m. Gossip Girl
9:00 p.m. One Tree Hill

Marc, it may be nonsense, but it's damn entertaining nonsense. ABC did it right this time - they used a bachelorette viewers already knew, aired 2 hour installments, and did three bachelorette specials along the way. All of this helped the viewer become much more invested in the relationships she was forming. If they'd run a Bachelor from December to February, and a Bachelorette in the summer, ABC would post numbers like this consistently. Everything went right with this franchise this summer, hopefully they learned from it. The next bachelor should be one of the guys Deanna rejected.

She seems very happy, too. I hope this works out. This one actually might.

Seems like that only the Premiere and the Finale are the only episodes that dow really well for the series.

Perhaps keeping each "season" to just 6 episodes would keep viewership up for the run, instead of 2 months of blah ratings, until the finale.

Interestingly, Deanna, The Bachelorette, announced her wedding date last night - May 9, 2009 - me thinks it's no coincidence it's during May sweeps. Smiler

If they do go through with it, wouldn't this be the first for one of these dating shows?

No. Trista, the first Bachelorette (rejected by the first Bachelor), married Ryan. ABC aired it to over 17 million viewers, I believe.

Report analyzes upcoming TV season

Fox's J.J. Abrams thriller "Fringe" and CBS' Jerry Bruckheimer procedural drama "Eleventh Hour" will be the highest-rated new shows, while NBC's "Kath & Kim" and CBS' "Worst Week" will prove to be weak links in their respective comedy blocks.

With ABC shifting reality veterans "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny" to Fridays in the fall, the report speculated that the network will take control of the evening from longtime winner CBS.

Baby Boomers Spends More Than Those Under 40, Has Less Brand Loyalty

... from multichannel.com

Baby Boomers in their 40s and 50s not only are at the peak of their earning potential but also are making the majority of buying decisions for themselves, small children and their elderly parents, according to a recent branding survey conducted by TV Land and consumer researcher OTX.

The findings were detailed during a press conference Monday at the National Press Club by TV Land president Larry W. Jones. He was joined by Kim Alexis (pictured), host of TV Land's original reality series She's Got The Look and Beverly Johnson, a judge on the same series.

Not only are 40- and 50 year-olds spending more on themselves per month than Millennials and Gen Xers but, more interestingly, they are spending twice as much as their younger cohorts on others in their lives. With so many people to shop for, Boomers are “making several multi-generational purchase decisions at once and—contrary to common assumptions—they are far less brand loyal than Millennials and Gen Xers,” according to the survey.

TV Land's "Generation BUY: A Close Look at the Boomer Consumer" study, fielded by OTX, includes input from almost 4,000 adults ages 18-65 nationwide. Commissioned by TV Land, the study provides information on the purchase decisions and brand loyalty of Adults 40-59.

“While we have always known that it's a mistake to underestimate the power of people in their 40s and 50s, ‘Generation BUY’ once again shows us that Boomers are a major source of consumerism in this country,” Jones said. “Knowing that this generation has so many dependants, the means to buy the products that appeal to them and the willingness to try new brands is powerful information to share with our marketing and advertising partners.”

No. I've never seen a single episode, but I recall one other one -Trish who married Ryan, a firefighter or something of that sort.

AG has been steadily gaining viewers all season- and the 2nd in 18-49's is an important point. Now that the Bachelorette is done (and I'm wondering why ABC pulled the "Engagement Party" episode and replaced it with a rerun of another special they've already aired- they have to know it'll likely do poorly).....

and they released the BBUS cast this morning....for once, it's not all 20 and 30- somthings (they have a 75 year old great grandfather who's watched all 9 seasons- even onlint....I just hope he ain't first out)...

They did discover it, however, the episodes have been shown about 5 or 6 times each. However, I still find it funny each time Smiler

Of course Worst Week will. It looks terrible and does not fit with CBS other comedies.

I found that article interesting, but most of it was obvious stuff. CBS Wednesday night comedies struggling, ABC's Friday night line-up will put a dent in CBS's line up, 90210 will do good, but not majorly good.

Why do people keep exagerating the number of thimes BBT has aired each episode? Is the number '3' too difficult to fathom?

As for Marc's comment on more people finding BBT or Gossip Girl, I'm not sure anyone really 'knows' how many of the people watching the rerun season are repeat viewers vs. how many are new viewers. Putting BBT on after 2&1/2Men has to be giving the show exposure a 'new' audience on some scale, IMO. It won't make a massive difference this Fall, but it will help.
