-Yesterday’s Winners: American Idol (Fox), Lost (ABC), CSI R (CBS), Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Fox), Without a Trace R (CBS)
-Yesterday’s Losers: Eli Stone (ABC), Lipstick Jungle (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: Thanks to a Thursday night edition of American Idol, Fox remained in the winner’s circle with a strong advantage over normally dominant ABC or CBS. The Eye net and ABC tied for the No. 2 spot (CBS was second in total viewers, ABC No. 2 among adults 18-49), with NBC fourth and the CW fifth.
The first live American Idol results show opened the evening with a hefty 23.17 million viewers and an 8.4 rating/21 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. Comparably, that clobbered CBS’ still potent Survivor: Micronesia (Viewers: #2, 12.55 million; A18-49: #2, 4.0/10) by whopping 10.62 million viewers and 110 percent in the demo. If you are not watching this Micronesia edition, you are missing a truly addictive edition of the veteran franchise. As for American Idol, three of the four people I personally picked were eliminated: Joanne Borgella, Amy Davis and Garrett Haley. The fourth was Colton Berry, who nasty Simon told straight out that he had no future as a singer. Nice guy, isn’t he?
Also airing in the 8 p.m. hour was an “enhanced” repeat of ABC’s Lost (Viewers: #3, 5.47 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.7/ 4), which features pop-up text commentary at the bottom of the screen, two repeat episodes of NBC’s My Name is Earl (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.47 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.7/ 4) and a repeat of the CW’s Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.57 million; A18-49: #5, 1.0/ 3) in place of the regularly scheduled Smallville.
ABC moved into the 9-10 p.m. winners circle care of Lost at a healthy 13.53 million viewers and a 5.7/13 among adults 18-49. Don’t forget: once original episodes of Grey’s Anatomy return, Lost moves to Thursday at 10 p.m. Second in the hour was Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Viewers: 12.52 million; A18-49: 4.8/11), which got a lift airing out of American Idol, of course.
Rounding off the 9 p.m. hour was a repeat of CBS’ CSI (Viewers: #3, 11.92 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 7), NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice (Viewers: #4, 8.03 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 8) and an original installment of the CW’s Supernatural (Viewers: 3.22 million; A18-49: #5, 1.3/ 3). Supernatural rose to its second largest audience of the season, and best among adults 18-34 (1.4 rating), women 18-34 (1.4) and men 18-34 (1.4).
A repeat of CBS’ Without a Trace led the 10 p.m. hour, with 12.09 million viewers and a 3.0/ 8 among adults 18-49 (actually building from the CSI encore by 170,000 viewers). Second was ABC’s Eli Stone (Viewers: 7.61 million; A18-49: 2.7/ 7), which lost more than half of the Lost audience in the demo, followed by NBC’s Lipstick Jungle at a very disappointing 5.78 million viewers and a 2.5/ 6 among adults 18-49. While the scenes of Manhattan are certainly appealing on Lipstick Jungle, the show itself tries too hard to be Sex and the City.

Marc, would you mind posting the half -hour breakdown for the new episode of SN, please? Thanks! Freakin awesome ratings for SN!!! So happy and thrilled to see the show rebound.
And what nice ratings for the repeat episode too!! Awesome!!
I would be really interested to know the DVR numbers for Lost in the first 4 episodes, do you know where I can get this info Marc? This is the 4th week of declines in numbers. I'm hoping it stabilizes above 13 million. As I recall, during last season I think it dipped as low as 11 million, I'm hoping we don't have a repeat performance! I suspect once it moves to 10pm, the numbers will dip to around 11 million again, Grey's is not compatible but it certainly won't hurt.

AWESOME numbers for Supernatural.
Marc, if you have the time, could you post the half hour numbers for Lost?
Yes, it looks like almost identical numbers to last week for LOST, and Eli Stone is also finding firm footing around 7.5 mil, although it really should stay above a 3.0 in the demo.
Still, not bad, considering the way the overnights looked -- not bad at all.
Pretty good numbers for AI again given a little comp from Survivor. I actually picked your same three Marc, I thought that Eze should go and not Colton. I that was pretty brutal of Simon. DFTL had awesome numbers. Does anyone even remember Spelling Bee any more? I think those numbers were better than the OC last year, way better. I think you can call that show a sleeper hit going against that very competetive 9 o'clock hour.
Lost did pretty decent, numbers slide still worry some. I think it will lose another 2 million viewers when it moves to 10 pm against new episodes of WAT. Eli Stone is dead in the water as well. At least it did better than LJ.
CBS had a good night as well. Survivor, that has to be a series low since season 1, I would think. All the repeats did well. It should be interesting once Thursday is fully loaded with new episodes. How many viewers will come back is a good question.
NBC is just bad on Thursdays now. Once the place to be on this night, has not a word to say anymore. Their comedies are pretty funny, but they only hit a few select people. Their demos are good, but viewers is what matters. Maybe they'll put 3 hours of DOND on now...

Nuh, whatever audience it loses by moving to 10pm it will gain by having an 18 million + lead-in as opposed to being its own lead-in. Last season it lost viewers because it was left on a dead night with a lead-in that couldn't crack 4 million (In Case of Emergency). I think it bled as much as it will -- this is on par with last week, with increased competition.

What number slide for LOST? Last week it had 13.62 million and a 5.7 in the demo -- almost identical numbers to this week. And Eli Stone's numbers are within a few thousand and a 0.1 in the demo to last week's as well. I think both shows have stabilized.

Have you seen Grey's Anatomy's numbers lately? It's not this power house show in ratings any longer. The ratings and fans hate it, it has been dropping all season.
10 o'clock hour will have Lost dropping to 10-12 million.
I don't think Lost's numbers at 13 million is anything to celebrate. It is not good when you look at repeat CSI almost getting 12 million.

Wait, was it Valentine's Day again last night? Wasn't that what caused the low numbers last week?
As for ES, keep in mind that it always looses around 400,000 and .2 in the demo with the final numbers.
Lost: looks to have stabilized. Good news. Supernatural: Stronger without Smallville. Why it hasn't been anchoring another evening all along is a mystery? Congrats to the fans. DFTL: Fairly weak retention but best results ever and in a very tough timeslot. CSI/WAT: Crossover helped but didn't beat original stuff at 9pm. Eli Stone: Disappointing, but nothing works behind Lost. My question is was the show actually up in viewers over last week? If so, at least its a step in the right direction. Lipstick Jungle: Goodbye.

Yea, Grey's has a great track record of helping the shows that follow it.
