Whoever gets eliminated doesn't have that much to do with votes anyway, the loser is hand-picked by Nigel and co.

I think you might be right about him being over rated, however, your comparison to Fantasia is wrong.IMO, Fantasia still has given the single best performance the show has ever see with Summertime. She has also remained sucessful since her win, so I don't see where she is over rated.
Honestly, how many records has she sold? Because thats what its all about. And I dont want to hear that she was on some 2nd rate Broadway show, because to me, thats not what success out of AI is about..

I don't think people stopped watching. I think the fans that fought to get it back are indeed tunning in. But A. They are not all Nielson families and B, if you look the audience is not much different than it was at 8pm last spring . I think the fact that it was off the air for 9 months and put on at the dreaded 10pm slot on CBS it's not horribly bad. Certainly it's not a smash hit but all things considered did anyone expect better?? It's not the type of show that's going to gain many viewers.
Im pretty sure that last spring the numbers were still in the high 7 million range. This year, they have dipped 2 million.
That means over 25% of the people who watched a pretty good season finale, just stopped watching. And I dont buy the 10pm thing to be honest..

I kinda feel bad for David. He is not the one who did all the praising of himself. He is 17 years old. I feel he is talented, but at the end of the day, do we really think a 17 year old is gonna win?
Age really doesnt matter. Plenty of young singers get signed the legit way at 17 (and younger). Look at Miley Cyrus..
The fact of the matter is that he couldnt capitalize on winning star search to get a record deal for a reason. Its because hes nothing special and cant sell records.
But I dont blame him, I blame Simon Cowell. He should not have been pimping him from day 1. He should have been pimping the true talent this year; Carly Smithson (the next Kelly Clarkson), David Cooke (the next Chris Daughtry), Brooke White (the next Carly Simon), and David Johns (no comparison really)...

Not watching AI i don't know how "the judges" acted so far, but it's amazing how kind they were with Archuleta after he destroyed that song and how harsh some were with other contestants who at least didn't make fool of themeselves last night. They even used words like horrendous. Well then how you call DA's performance? They called it "not so good" and a mess. Are they kidding me?
They cant be mean to the 'chosen one'. God forbid he gets voted off because America actually realizes he isnt that great.
They are taking someone who probably is at best, the 6th or 7th best person this year, and pimping him into a favorite.
I still remember his audition, which was as mediocre as it gets, and would have gotten almost anyone else eliminated, but he went straight through...

You're right, just like what happens in any other "reality" show

Bad. You might say chimp-like.
How bad exactly, in viewers?
Never mind, it had 5.00 according to The Hollywood Reporter.
So...bad. Be happy. At least your show is guaranteed to return regardless of ratings. Fans of other programs don't get that luxury.
Yes, your right. However ATJ is against American Idol & The Biggest Loser & has no lead-in. If it was on Friday I could see it getting at least 6-7 million viewers.

The OC had some of the best actors on tv and is one of the best shows ever done.
as for archeleta, It's the trouble with being crowned the front runner -- its almost the kiss of death. It happened with Lakisha and Melinda Doolittle last year

Maybe. Even when it wasn't against Idol, it hasn't pulled over 6 million this year and I'm not sure if on low hut level Friday it would do any better.

Would that be the 8 and 8:30 combined total?
It wouldn't surprise me next year at sometime ABC has on Friday
For those not in the know, Eliot Spitzer was Governor of the State of New York but resigned Wednesday due to the discovery of his ties to a prostitution ring. News of this scandal first broke this past Monday.
One of the segments on the popular ESPN show, Pardon the Interruption, is entitled "Five Good Minutes", where the hosts interview a particular guest in a 5-minute segment. However, on some days, the "Five Good Minutes" segment doesn't air, usually in lieu of a segment entitled "More Headlines", which concern more news in the world of sports. On the Tuesday edition of the program, when "More Headlines" was featured, host Tony Kornheiser remarked, "We wanted to have Eliot Spitzer on the show today but he's suddenly not interested in five good minutes (rimshot!)."
As for Kornheiser's seemingly favorite TV program, American Idol ("Tonight, it's go time!" he yells during the "TV Picks" segment on days that Idol airs): Marc, Ramiele Malubay is most likely not to go at this point (unless she is really, really atrocious at the mic in the coming weeks) because I've read in some sources her name is one of the top names among the Idol contestants in internet search engines and a huge Filipino fan base is backing her. The fan base did just this for Season 3 contestant, Jasmine Trias, who is now a big star in the Philippines.
The 26th game of the 2007-08 season of the original (and challenging) P.I. Feedback Challenge is online! You have until Tuesday March 18 @ 7:59am ET to join in on the fun of this game! (This is the first time in 69 PIFC games that I have premiered it on a Tuesday.)
AI is a joke. I already knew that but last night confirmed it once again. I don't understand why people actually spend time on voting. FOX was dying to get rid of DH

I don't think it is about 'bad acting' so much as it is about cranking out 5 shows per week on a tiny budget. Some of those CSI shows (David Carruso) have huge budgets and only churn out one show every week, yet they still look like they are reading directly from cue cards.
CSI: Miami is the worse. Even great actors would look bad on that show.
Good point. I never even thought about that. It will be interesting to see the ratings in the immediate weeks following the Feb 2009 switch off of the old analog signals.

So, then...exponential growth.
Univision and the others are going to get hit hard by the digital conversion next year, though. They have a much higher percentage of over-the-air viewers with older TV sets and no desire to contact the government for a coupon.
