quote: So now the question. We all know Jericho filmed two variations of the final episode which will air in two weeks. Do they show the ending with a final conclusion to wrap everything up. OR, do they show the episode that was intended to be shown if their was going to be a 3rd season? I think it's very possible that someone like the Sci Fi network could pick it up with some success, but that will be down the road. Does Jericho take that chance and possibly alienate the fans that helped them get back on for season 2 by possibly never airing a 3rd season and not resolving storylines just in hopes that someone picks it up?
You know, short of a final apocalyptic event, it really isn't possible to wrap EVERYTHING up. I think it's unlikely SciFi will spring for new eps, and even if they did, it wouldn't last long, and the end result would be fans getting pissed at THEM, and accusing them of bad scheduling calls, bad promotion, not really wanting the show, etc. So yeah, end it. And if somebody actually wanted to pick it up, how hard would it be to come up with an excuse to start it up again? Like plausibility is really such a high concern here?

True, many Americans can't read. Still a 25-50% increase is only 1 or 2 million viewers nationally. I think that it would be a very realistic goal for Univision to gain that many viewers with subtitling. I'm guessing that their concern is that their current viewers might resent it.
2 million viewers? We have two networks that struggle to do that with English speaking programming. I really doubt that the average person is going to know/ seek/find out that Univision has subtitles. plus, the programming is bad (for lack of a better word) that those that did sample it, wouldn't stick around. The cultural gap is too wide.

What do you mean by "the programming is bad"?

The subtitles do make it harder to multitask... I rarely just watch TV. Usually I'm doing something else at the same time. Devoting all my attention a good film with sub-titles is one thing, but I don't think I'd be all that inclined to watch a telenovela with sub-titles. All in all, having sub-titles may help get a few more viewers, but I'd be surprised if it was anywhere close to 25-50%

I don't know why they don't do that? CSI Cuernavaca would be a major hit

So, the demise of AI was in fact greatly exagerrated. My guess is Kristy Lee Cook gets another week because of her looks, and that means either Ramiele or Syesha is going home.
As for over-rated, its not Jason Castro (who I doubt anyone thinks will actually make the top 3), it has to be David Archuleta. Im sorry, but there is nothing special about him. He doesnt have Michael John's looks, David Cook's singing ability, Brooke White's raw emotion, or Carly's total package.
He is arguably the most over-rated singer on this show since Fantasia Burrino, and if the judges are stupid enough to keep pimping him, he will be the latest disappointment who wins American Idol..
As for OTH, huge hit last night because of Idol. I thought it would hold up better because it had been doing pretty well when going up against just the boys the last few weeks.
However, yet again, it was a very solid episode, leading into what looks like it could be the best episode of the series next week..
As for Jericho, I am very disappointed that the fans got it back, and then stopped watching. While it was not as good last night as it had been, the writing this season is a lot better than last year, and its a shame people arent watching.
Its a real shame that its done in 2 episodes because I really think they could have had some good storylines the next few seasons if people watched the show..

You're absolutely right. I didn't watch past editions of AI but this year that Archuleta kid is annoyingly overrated. And all those praises are getting to him. As for OTH, i'm very disappointed with the fact that AI hurted the show badly last night. And it's going to hurt it just as much next week, which is a shame

I think you might be right about him being over rated, however, your comparison to Fantasia is wrong.IMO, Fantasia still has given the single best performance the show has ever see with Summertime. She has also remained sucessful since her win, so I don't see where she is over rated. quote: Originally posted by Milcus: So, the demise of AI was in fact greatly exagerrated. I don't think people stopped watching. I think the fans that fought to get it back are indeed tunning in. But A. They are not all Nielson families and B, if you look the audience is not much different than it was at 8pm last spring . I think the fact that it was off the air for 9 months and put on at the dreaded 10pm slot on CBS it's not horribly bad. Certainly it's not a smash hit but all things considered did anyone expect better?? It's not the type of show that's going to gain many viewers.

I kinda feel bad for David. He is not the one who did all the praising of himself. He is 17 years old. I feel he is talented, but at the end of the day, do we really think a 17 year old is gonna win? quote: Originally posted by robert: quote: Originally posted by Milcus: So, the demise of AI was in fact greatly exagerrated. Well, I'm sure there are a lot of reasons. I suspect most Americans simply feel no need to watch shows with sub-titles. There is such an abundance of English programming and movies available, that they see no reason to seek out foreign language shows. Most Americans just aren't used to watching shows with sub-titles and have no motivation to start. I'm sure I'm not the only person who multi-tasks when watching TV, and, like I said, it's harder to multi-task when you have to keep your eyes on the screen all the time. You also loose a bit in reading sub-titles. It's harder to pick up vocal cues like inflection when you don't know the language or are focused on reading rather than listening.
