Marc, you really think CW would put a new show in the Thursday night death slot? I'd love for Supernatural to get moved to a less competitive night, but if the competition stays the same on Thursdays next season I'm thinking they'll probably keep Supernatural there because it really did hold its own all season. I feel like putting a new show there is pretty much murder.

That's exactly how I am thinking too. SN has done relatively well in that horrendous slot. I can't see a new show having legs in that slot that didn't already have a built in following like SN.

Those numbers are scary. It seems that the show gets it's lowest ratings whenever it is a big episode dealing with the story arc and whatnot. It's a shame because that was a GREAT episode.

I didn't get SPN ratings. What happened that they went down like that?

Well, Supernatural had The Office and Fifth Grader to deal with last night, along with the usual Grey's Anatomy, CSI, Scrubs, etc. Could this timeslot be any harder?

It really was a great episode. We got answers to questions we've been asking since the pilot aired. Plus that last scene? Broke my heart.

Born Under a Bad Sign got under 3 million too and that was an awesome, awesome episode.

Who even knows. I'll never understand it.

I'm not sure that's the case, pisher. Like Marc said, it's tough to analyze, but it seems to me that the Office built from Earl by a million, not to mention increasing a full point in the demo. The decrease at 9 is probably due to the fact that the significant reduction to Scrubs at the end of the half hour is bringing down 9-9:30. Oh, and it definitely was great last night!! More Meredith and Creed please!

The Office just doesn't have mass appeal. I thought last night's ep was hilarious, but it lost a million viewers from Earl (and that show annoys the crap out of me). I hope it can go on another year or two, but the material will get stale if they keep it on too long. The original British series only had 14 episodes over the course of two seasons (and two Christmas specials). And Steve Carell has other places to be.

And it was still able to hold about 3 million viewers............most other dramas on the CW would have been slaughtered even worse.

I don't know if it could get any harder than it already is, which is why I think putting a new show there would be absolute murder!.

Kristin from E! has said that she is hearing that the CW likes their Thursday pairing of SV and SN. Who knows how much trust you can put into Kristin.

The Office did not lose a million of Earl's viewers. Remember those numbers are based on the half hour measurements, and viewership was actually up over a million from 8 to 830. I think this speaks more to the MASSIVE drop off that happens when The Office ends and Scrubs comes on at 9:20. NBC has to find another comedy to help out that night.

followed by the lackluster preview of ABC drama Traveler at 8.88 million viewers and a 3.6/10 in the demo. Comparatively, retention for Traveler out of Grey’s Anatomy was just 47 percent in total viewers and 48 percent among adults 18-49. Even worse was a loss from 10 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. of 1.96 million viewers (9.86 to 7.90 million) and 20 percent among adults 18-49 (4.0/11 to 3.2/ 9). Recent occupant October Road averaged 10.39 million viewers and a 4.4/12 in the demo in this time period.

Source: Nielsen Media Research data

The lack of interest in TRAVELER maybe that viewers already know its a DEAD series...that they don't want to invest in something that has no future after having the rugged yank out from under them on REUNION, DRIVE, VANISHING...to name a few. That said I will watch all the episodes broadcast since I did want to see it when it was announced ages ago.

Marc,

Were the "Without A Trace" numbers higher last night than they are on Sunday? If so, is there any chance that CBS will move it back to Thursdays and maybe move Shark to Sundays? I really prefer WAT on Thursdays.

This is about what I thought would happen, although WAT didn't hold as much of CSI's viewers as I thought it would.

Now, IF CBS can beat ABC by at least a 1/2 a point tonight, and Saturday a wash-out, Sunday could be very interesting with Suvivor vs EM/DH/B&S

Agree on WAT. And I think this is one
case where you have to look beyond what
would otherwise be considered strong
retention #'s. I just looked up Sunday's
ratings:

WAT - 14.64, 3.7, coming out of CC.......

CC - 13.63, 3.2

Last night, WAT 14.39, 3.9

Yes, they were. But, no, I doubt it. It's doing fine on Sunday so why move it again. Chances are we'll see a new Thursday 10 p.m. drama in place of Shark, which is expected to head to Tuesday at 10 p.m.

Once again every, and i mean every show is waaaay down on its average numbers (minus Without a Trace). Horrible numbers for CW's shows. Season low for Betty and 5th Grader. CSI and Grey's not even close to 20 million. NBC's shows once again way down.
What's happening??????/

It would be interesting to see the half hour breakdowns. Last night, ANTM had a million viewer change from the top half of the hour to the bottom half; much larger than normal.

Seems not everything out of Grey's does well. I guess that means that October Road isn't the turd everyone thinks it is, and this should mean that it will be renewed.

Shark appears headed for Tuesday. No decisioon yet on WAT moving.

But the better CBS move might be to place a hot new series Thursday at 10 PM ET/PT to take advantage of a weakening "E R" and a not-terribly-strong "October Road"
