Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 3/31/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 14.54 million, CBS: 12.71, NBC: 7.95, Fox: 7.07, CW: 1.19

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 4.4 rating/11 share, ABC: 4.0/10, NBC and Fox: 2.4/ 6 each, CW: 0.5/ 1

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Two and a Half Men (CBS), CSI: Miami (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
How I Met Your Mother (CBS), The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS), Deal or No Deal (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (NBC), Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW), The Bachelor (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another Monday of split leadership, with ABC first in total viewers (with 1.83 million more than second-place CBS), and CBS No. 1 among adults 18-49 (10 percent ahead of ABC). A 90-minute edition of Dancing With the Stars got ABC off to a hefty (and dominant) start, with 20.29 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m., building in each half-hour as follows:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 18.65 million, A18-49: 4.5/13
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 20.91 million, A18-49: 5.1/13
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 21.31 million, A18-49: 5.4/13

My pick to bid adieu tonight: Marissa Jaret Winokur, who could be back on Broadway sooner than she thinks. Dancing With the Stars led into a 90-minute edition of The Bachelor, with an estimated 8.80 million viewers and a 2.9/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 9:30-11 p.m. And I stress estimated because the first few minutes of the 9 p.m. hour-hour consisted of the final minutes of Dancing With the Stars. A better assessment of The Bachelor was the 10-11 p.m. portion third in the hour with 7.56 million viewers and a 2.7/ 7 in the demo.

CBS had what you could call a typical Monday with its line-up of riotous The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #2, 8.68 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 9), How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 9.67 million; A18-49: #2, 4.0/11), which built by 29 percent in the demo, Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 14.34 million; A18-49: #2, 5.3/13), a stellar installment of The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #3, 12.41 million; A18-49: #1, 4.4/11), which always benefits when uppity Ashley and Kelsey are present, and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 15.53 million; A18-49: #1, 4.8/12). Worth noting for The New Adventures of Old Christine was retention out of Two and a Half Men of 86 percent in total viewers and 83 percent among adults 18-49. Two and a Half Men built from How I Met Your Mother, meanwhile, by a hefty 4.76 million viewers and 32 percent in the demo. And worth repeating is the Emmy worthy performance of Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory.

NBC got off to an abysmal start care of reality/competition My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad, which sunk to a series-low 4.36 million viewers (#4) and a 1.3/ 4 among adults 18-49 (#4) at 8 p.m. That led into Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #3, 9.95 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7), which more than doubled lead-in My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad, followed by Medium at a second-place 9.54 million viewers and a 3.0/ 8 in the demo at 10 p.m. Worthy of mention for Medium was growth from year-ago occupant The Black Donnellys (Viewers: 5.30 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 5 on April 2, 2007) of 4.24 million viewers and 50 percent in the demo.

Next was Fox was its combination of a repeat of House (Viewers: #3, 7.51 million; A18-49: #3, 2.6/ 7), which is an improvement over recent occupant Canterbury’s Law, and New Amsterdam (Viewers: #4, 6.63 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 5), which fits well out of the House encore.

Last, and extremely least, was the CW’s line-up of a repeat of Gossip Girl (Viewers: 1.10 million; A18-49: 0.5/ 1) and Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (Viewers: 1.27 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 1). No, it does not get much worse than that!

Hard to believe that CW renewed Gossip Girl already and won't renew Reaper. Reaper performs so much better that it is clearly the more valuable show for building audience next year.

Hopefully, Pussycat Dolls and Crowned are both gone forever.

Nice way to damage the timeslot for Chuck next year. NBC would be better off with yet another hour of L&O repeats.

We are 3 weeks in on the timeslot flip experiment. Is anyone still delusional enough to think that BBT is thre stronger show?

On DOND last night, does anyone know how much that guy ended up winning? By the looks of the promo they ran at the start, it seemed like he probably won big bucks. He seemed like a really nice guy, hope he did well.

If they flipped back again, BBT would be rated higher, IMO. It has to do with the time period more than anything.

If Medium can hold that much of DOND's audience and grow even more in demos (even against a new episode of CSI: Miami), then NBC would have a pretty stable night with Chuck/Heroes/Medium. They would probably have a better chance of launching new shows on Monday when DWTS is off the air in the winter.

A small ratings rebound from last week, but still a clear sign that this series has only 2 more episodes left in its future.

That is the whole point: it has to do with the time period. HIMYM has outperformed BBT in both time periods.

How I met your mother is clearly the stronger show compared to The big bang theory, and is really benefiting from the time period flip. It again almost cracked the 10 million mark.
And it got good demo numbers as well. Or Two and a half men's aren't that great. Because Men improved 32 percent in the demo and 48 percent in viewers over Mother. That's a big difference.

He dealt at $198K after he knocked the million out- but in the playout, the final two cases ended up being $75K and $750K, and he said he would have switched....and he would have switched to the $750K....

BBT never grew from HIMYM by 29% in the demo. This week had HIMYM's expected heavy decline due to no stunt casting... and it still outrated EVERY episode of BBT.

I like both shows, but it really is clear.

Nice numbers for Christine's final episode. If CBS doesn't want it, I'm sure NBC / ABC would be happy to pick it up.
