Prime-Time Ratings:
Thursday 3/13/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 11.47 million, Fox: 9.07, ABC: 8.18, NBC: 5.99, CW: 3.30

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 3.2 rating/9 share, ABC: 3.0/ 8, Fox: 2.9/ 8, NBC: 2.4/ 7, CW: 1.4/ 4

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Survivor: Micronesia (CBS), Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Fox), CSI R (CBS), Lost (ABC), Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Fox), Without a Trace R (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
Celebrity Apprentice (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
Reaper (CW), Eli Stone (ABC), Lipstick Jungle (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Minus Fox’s American Idol in the mix, CBS moved into the Thursday winner’s circle, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and Fox tied for the No. 2 and 3 spots, followed by NBC and the CW.

CBS’ still addictive Survivor: Micronesia kicked-off the evening with a dominant 13.06 million viewers and a 4.2 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. While the ratings are not what they used to be, Survivor is still clearly winning the time period. Next was the return of Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Viewers: #2, 9.33 million; A18-49: #2, 2.7/ 8), which does not get the credit it deserves, followed by an enhanced repeat of ABC’s Lost (Viewers: #3, 5.34 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 5), two repeat episodes of NBC’s My Name is Earl (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.32 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.6/ 5), and an original installment of the CW’s already renewed Smallville (Viewers: #5, 3.79 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.6/ 5). Sadly, My Name is Earl is not the type of sitcom that can ignite NBC on Thursday.

ABC’s Lost won the 9 p.m. hour, with 11.87 million viewers and a 4.8/13 among adults 18-49. Great episode last night, wasn’t it? A repeat of CBS’ CSI was second in total viewers (11.45 million) and fourth among adults 18-49 (2.9/ 8). Rounding off the hour was Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Viewers: #3, 8.80 million; A18-49: #3t, 3.1/ 8), which is the perfect fit out of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, NBC’s oddly appealing Celebrity Apprentice (Viewers: #4, 8.10 million; A18-49: #3t, 3.1/ 8 -- go Carol Alt!), and the CW’s relocated Reaper (Viewers: #5, 2.81 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3), which should have done better without original episodes of CSI and Grey’s Anatomy in the competitive mix. Worth noting for Celebrity Apprentice was growth of 94 percent in the demo out of the My Name is Earl encores.

A repeat of CBS’ Without a Trace (Viewers: #1, 9.91 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.4/ 7) and ABC’s Eli Stone (Viewers: #2, 7.31 million; A18-49: #1, 2.5/ 7) shared top rated honors at 10 p.m. But retention for Eli Stone out of Lost of only 62 percent in viewers and 52 percent in the demo makes it a “loser.” Capping off the hour was NBC’s Lipstick Jungle at 5.56 million viewers (#3) and a 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#2t). Both Eli Stone and Lipstick Jungle are not expected back next season.

Ouch for Lost, it "lost" 1 million in a week. At this rate it will have problems remaining above 10 million at 10pm

Respectable once again for ES

I would have thought LOST's numbers would go up slightly for this week with this the 2nd to last episode for about a month.

It was a Sun/Jin episode which traditionally tend to get lower ratings(about 60% of the episode is in Korean), couple that up with Daylight savings time and the drop is understandable. Infact if you look at the shares; it has the same shares as last week.

Not a bad nightly win for a network that is "Out of touch with its viewers/advertisers", right Obveeus? Wink

Below 3.0 in the demo doesn't deserve much credit.

Perfect fit in terms of low quality and ratings.

This might be as low as it gets for this run of episodes--we'll see. As I said elsewhere, Sun&Jin, wonderful as the actors playing them are, don't tend to have very popular eps.

Yeah, very respectable for a dead show walking. I hear next week Eli has a vision of a Wagnerian soprano singing a dirge--then impaling him on a spear. Die, Eli, Die. Big Grin

Great SURVIVOR last night...it earns its ratings.

It's episodes like this that justify it still being on the air. I didn't even like Penner but was moved by his forced evacuation.

Also CHET is officially the most worthless SURVIVOR ever and that includes Osten. What a useless sack of s@#t and then using his parting words to say Tracy and Eric can "take care" of Ozzy...how are they suppose to do that without your vote d#@*he? Some friend he turned out to be to Tracy after she recued him muliple times.

As for LOST...yeah its ratings aren't what they use to be but that's pretty much across the board. As said before no cause for concern...its and ABC tentpole and will reach the end of its run without being prematurely yanked.

Are you kidding me? Do you remember the typical Thursday nights for Fox for the past 5 years. There was nothing. It deserves tons of credit for what it is doing.

Ouch Lost. It's going down miserably, being after Grey's Anatomy isn't going to help at all.

What does that mean, Lost fans watch the beginning of the episode, see it is about Sun&Jin, so they turn off the TV and go back to writing blogs about the "mythology" of polar bears? Eeker

Does that mean whatever show replaces K-Ville next year is automatically a "Winner" every week? Not to mention those low-quality game shows have zero value in terms of DVDs and international sales.

Both should be in the top 20 range for the weekly ratings.

Even though Celebrity Apprentice may be a guilty pleasure for some, I do not believe that its performance is worthy of even an honorable mention. Fourth in viewers, third demo. Just bad. And ask you said Marc, there was no Grey's or CSI. Celebrity Apprentice was a blip. It should have died when they killed it last year.

I will give a not bad to Reaper though. The numbers were not great by CW means, however for the first episode back after such a long break (given how hiatuses have killed other shows in the past), I would say it found some footing. It was its best rated original in a while also I believe. For that, I would have left it off the losers list, but not placed it anywhere else.

And Smallville is a concern with a season 8 looming already. This once steady over 4 mil show is leaking. Good news, it beat Top Model this week. Bad news, new viewing habits of the young generation is killing it.

Zitrone, do I have to yet AGAIN explain the difference between fans and ordinary viewers, and how many more of the latter there are than the former? Roll Eyes

It means what it means. Back when Lost was at the peak of its popularity, episodes featuring flashbacks to the past of the Kwon marriage tended to do lower than average numbers. Which is one reason why there have been so few of them.
