-Adults 18-49:
ABC: 4.1 rating/10 share, CBS: 3.9/10, NBC: 3.5/ 9, Fox: 2.5/ 6, CW: 1.1/ 3

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Heroes (NBC), CSI: Miami (CBS)

Chuck (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Everybody Hates Chris (CW), Aliens in America (CW), The Bachelor (ABC), K-Ville (Fox), Girlfriends (CW), Journeyman (NBC)

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 8.54 percent during premiere week in 2006 to 19.43 percent at present, the overall results have been negatively impacted.

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
The home of Dancing With the Stars, ABC opened the week on a winning note, with a first-place Monday finish in total viewers and adults 18-49. Dancing With the Stars averaged a dominant 19.32 million viewers and a 4.9 rating/12 share in the demo from 8-9:30 p.m. While I do understand that the strength of lead-out The Bachelor is dependent on the female demos, I still think that 9.92 million viewers and a 3.3/ 8 among adults 18-49 (which included the last few minutes of Dancing With the Stars) from 9:30-11 p.m. is not positive by any means. Retention for The Bachelor out of the last half-hour of DWTS (Viewers: 20.79 million, A18-49: 5.2/12), in fact, was only 48 percent in viewers and 63 percent in the demo. Next Monday, look for the debut of Christina Applegate sitcom Samantha Who? at 9:30 p.m.

CBS placed a competitive second overall for the evening, but the 8-9 p.m. hour could certainly be stronger. How I Met Your Mother was second at 8 p.m., with 8.03 million viewers and a 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49, followed by week three of The Big Bang Theory at 8.36 million viewers and a 3.4/ 8 in the demo. The minor growth for Big Bang Theory out of How I Met Your Mother is still a positive worth noting, however. That led into 12.98 million viewers (#2) and a 4.4/10 among adults 18-49 (#3) for Two and a Half Men at 9 p.m., but year-to-year the Charlie Sheen sitcom was down by a considerable 3.40 million viewers and 15 percent in the demo (Viewers: 16.38 million, A18-49: 5.2/13 on Oct. 9, 2006 to an 8.4/12). Aren’t we all just getting tired of seeing overrated Sheen hop into the sack with a new woman every week? Come on -- how realistic is that?

Two and a Half Men led into Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #3, 10.71 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/ 9 at 9:30 p.m.), which is totally compatible, followed by 14.14 million viewers and a 4.3/11 among adults 18-49 for CSI: Miami at 10 p.m. Comparably, still potent CSI: Miami was down by 3.46 million viewers and 25 percent among adults 18-49 from year-to-year (Viewers: 17.60 million; A18-49: 5.7/14 on Oct. 9, 2006).

Week three of NBC’s Chuck took a tumble, dipping to fourth in the 8 p.m. hour with 7.12 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 among adults 18-49. Compared to its debut just two weeks earlier (Viewers: 9.21 million; A18-49: 3.6/ 9 on Sept. 24), that was a decline of 2.09 million viewers and 28 percent in the demo. Lead-out Heroes was also softer than usual, with 10.75 million viewers (#3) and a still first-place 5.0/11 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Journeyman capped off the evening for NBC with a last-place (and series-low) 6.94 million viewers and a 3.0/ 7 in the demo at 10 p.m. Comparably, that was a loss of 2.22 million viewers and 14 percent among adults 18-49 from its debut on Sept. 24 (Viewers: 9.16 million; A18-49: 3.5/ 9). And it dipped by 840,000 viewers (7.36 to 6.52 million) and 16 percent among adults 18-49 (3.2/ 8 to 2.7/ 7) in the second half-hour. Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.

Fox has settled into now typical Monday levels, with its combination of deteriorating Prison Break (Viewers: #3, 7.21 million; A18=-49: #3, 3.0/ 8) and K-Ville (Viewers: #4, 5.38 million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 5).

Last, and very least, were CW comedies Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.63 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3), Aliens in America (Viewers: 2.11 million; A18-49: 0.8/ 2), Girlfriends (Viewers: 2.50 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3) and The Game (Viewers: 2.81 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 3). Although these Monday results are compatible with one year earlier, keep in mind that the year-ago telecasts were all repeats. The reason why The Game avoided the loser’s list was growth out of Girlfriends of 310,000 viewers and 17 percent among adults 18-49 in a time period that has traditionally lost steam.

ABC:
The good news for Samantha Who? is that it should be able to match The Bachelor's lead-out numbers (at least for the premiere). Meanwhile, the ratings popularity for DwtS, like Idol, remains a mystery to me. Hasn't PBS been showing much better ballroom dancing for years without any real notice? Why does it matter that these people are 'stars'?

CBS:
Big Bang Theory has a tiny lead over HIMYM, but I'd call that a HUT lead. It has lost any real ratings advantage. I still think the biggest problem is that the female lead isn't interesting, funny, attractive, etc...
2@1/2Men shows that a rich guy willing to purchase his dates can always get someone. Not hard to believe. I wonder if the show will be able to transition the character into a 'more mature' player, ala Sam Malone on Cheers?
CBS is stuck in a situation where it almost doesn't seem to matter which sitcom they put on in that first hour on Monday. Nothing looks like it will pull in a 2&1/2Men sized audience.

NBC:
Journeyman might as well get cancelled now. I guess they can hold off a few more weeks on cancelling Chuck, but it looks like it won't make it a full season. Will NBC ever find a way to solve the death slot after Heroes? Will they just toss Heroes Origins in that timeslot since it is clearly the 'most compatible' option?

FOX:
Really weak performance for the whole night. No, the DVR numbers won't make this junk ratings performance look good. FOX needs to do something more than just give away Monday night.

CW:
Aliens in America is a typical 'family sitcom'. It should be the kind of thing that conservative America would soak up. Unfortunately, it looks like the right wing propaganda machine took hold and labled it as poison for having a Muslim character. The result is that AiA may never get sampled by people looking for a 'family sitcom' even though the 'Muslim' angle really has almost nothing to do with the show.
The Girlfriends episode last night showed once again why this show could have been an hour long 'family drama' rather than just a half hour sitcom.
I don't understand the ratings growth for The Game, but since it is one of the few bright spots CW has had this season, is there any way for them to promote the growth further?

Is it too early for numbers on VH1's I Love New York 2?

Did you see that NBCU is purchasing Oxygen?

Well Heroes is definetely taking a tumble so far this season. I sure hope it starts to rebound or stabilize a bit though.

I am glad to see that Prison Break continues to hold steady at 7.2 million viewers. It looks like although they lost a bit of their audience from last year they have stabilized and found their core viewers for this season.

Again, not good for the CW. Aliens in America is not doing too well out of Everybody Hates Chris.

Marc, do you know if you will be receiving the Live+3 data that will be released on either Oct. 15th or 16th? And if you do, is there anyway that you could possibily post that information somewhere on this site? Thanks.

Peace!!

If you take away DWTS the numbers for every single show are bad and in some cases really bad. What's happening (escept the DVRs of course)?
At this pace an 8 million show will be considered a hit. Will any new show survive? The picture is very bleak.

Marc -

Can you post the ratings for last night's Monday Night Football on ESPN? Does MNF greatly affect the networks' ratings?

I know that the Cowboys are the biggest draw in the NFL....

Will that info be out that early or delayed until Oct. 22nd? The Live+7 Is *only* taking them a couple of weeks to compile, but the commercial ratings, C3, are said to take even longer.

It's the end for Chuck and Journeymen. I expect both to be gone soon. Heroes is declining also. Who would have thought that NBC would have been so weak?

The Bachelor is a clunker. It's dragging down ABC's numbers. If it wasn't so cheap to make, it would be in serious trouble.

The CW just stinks on Monday night. Aliens in America is doing terrible and nothing is a clear winner. Total redo time.

I have to say I disagree with K-Ville being a "loser". Yes, ratings aren't impressive, but they have stabilized in the mid 5 mil range and 2.0 demo. At least FOX knows what they are getting. Most new series are still in a downward spiral. Plus, retention is 75% which is better than most loser timeslots.

Also the baseball playoffs were pushed into primetime also. It was a elimination game for the Yankees.

Heroes is definitely feeling the sophomore slump. I dont watch the show but my friends do and they all say it is nowhere near as good as last year. Too many characters and plotlines with nowhere to go but down.

As a disgruntled PRison Break viewer over the events in last night's episode, I will be VERY interested to see the fallout from this stupid idea to kill off one of the more beloved characters. They're not gaining any more viewers, and are bound to lose some more. How in the world can they justify a fourth season now? So far, they've lost an average of 2M viewers from last season, and if that's the trend, season 4 will have an average of 5M? Is that enough.

Prison Break, you shot yourself in the foot with Sara's demise which was not handled properly.
