Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Saturday’s Winners: 2008 NCAA Basketball Regional Finals, Day 1 (CBS)
-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Nothing, and that is because of all of the repeats.
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: 2008 NCAA Basketball Regional Finals, Day 1 led CBS to Saturday victory, with an average of 9.22 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 for the prime-time portion of the game. As I have said in the past, and will continue to keep saying in the future, viewers will indeed respond if the broadcast networks are aggressive on Saturday.
Second in both categories was Fox with its combination of Cops (Viewers: 6.39 million; A18-49: 2.3/ 8) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: 6.60 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 7), which were not negatively impacted airing opposite basketball.
A night of repeats on ABC and NBC, meanwhile, had very little impact. ABC aired a repeat of theatrical Catch Me if You Can (Viewers: #4, 5.38 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 5 from 8-11 p.m.), and NBC repeats of Law & Order: Criminal Intent(Viewers: #4, 3.60 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3), Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #3, 5.80 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 4) and Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 6.84 million; A18-49: #3: 1.8/ 5).

Good night for CBS. The rest of the night was boring, as usual.

Yes, they should air sports tournaments every Saturday of the year.

Well I don't believe there is any official word ever, I think it is just assumed that the usual Fox Saturday night line up will be the same next year, unless Fox found a new half hour show to pair Cops with, or something drastic happened.

I know you are being sarcastic RoyBoyCF but I actually think you are not that far off. The reason sports makes sense is they bring a built in advertising base. Look at ABC/ESPN college football. While many of the games don't get high ratings themselves, I have to think the advertisers are satisfied because they are the same advertisers that would have bought time if the game would have been shown in the afternoon.
ABC is in the best position to add more primetime Saturday night sports. I still think they should go to the NBA and try to get together a small package for the springtime each year. I also think NBC would be wise to develop a sort of wide world of Olympic sports to show on a regular basis for the night. Again the ratings won't be great, but the exposure for the athletes and Olympic advertisers will still be a positive for the net.
