NA did a 13.5 mill on Tuesday, so I would not be surprised if the numbers were very close again tonight. quote: Originally posted by Obveeus: quote: Originally posted by TV-aholic: If DFTL can beat LOST, it should be easy for New Amsterdam.
No. The DFtL crowd doesn't like any 'deep thought'. Most likely, they will return to watching CSI.

I agree that the fact that none of the winners (or other contestants, for that matter) have actually become a "top model" must play at least some role in the lower interest for ANTM.

A double whammy: 1. Tyra knew her before since she was part of Tyra's T-Zone camp and having her win was a way to promote that camp. 2. She was already in a national commercial, which meant she was not eligible according to the rules of the show. quote: Also, unlike AI where we see where their career goes once they get the ANTM crown don't really hear anything from them except for the one who married the brady and now has her own show....
Another one just popped out a kid with Johnny Fairplay from Survivor fame. There is a current Chili's commercial running on TV featuring Mercedes from Cycle #2. Another one of them is on MTV in the mornings as a DJ...apparently ported over from the MTV college station where she is the regular DJ. Most of them just go off to doing print/runway modeling work, so of course we aren't ever going to hear from them again. How many former The Apprentice, Survivor, Big Brother, Project Runway, or whatever cast members are ever heard from again? It seems like only American Idol can keep any of their contestants in the national spotlight after the show ends.

How close is it going to be???
Not at all. Thursday Idol does worse than the Tues/Weds editions, and on Tuesday, NA did poorer than DFTL did last Thursday post-Idol.

Do you think the same thing could happen to AI? Last season didn't create any new star.

BTW, Travis, thanks for the ratings. Hopefully Marc's leave is not the result of bad tidings.
No, I don't think so. He asked well in advance. But I hope not, too!

Rob and Amber had segments on The Early Show, a reality show, and now one hosted by Rob. Aside from that, Will from BB had (has?) his own show, Danni of Survivor: Guatemala hosts a news program, and JFP is somewhat famous.

I think the jury is still out on Jordin Sparks. She's had one big hit so far and I was just reading on billboard that her latest song broke into the top 10. We'll see. She may be around longer than originally thought. quote: Originally posted by Zitrone: quote: Originally posted by Chimera: I agree that the fact that none of the winners (or other contestants, for that matter) have actually become a "top model" must play at least some role in the lower interest for ANTM.

I'm expecting around 11-12 million viewers. You have to expect a little drop off from the premiere. Likely, LOSt will keep dropping as well.

Survivor has done pretty well with launch post game careers. Richard Hatch was doing OK untill the Feds got him. Rupert is still in demand with Charity events and public speaking. Danni (Guatemala) has been doing sports TV. I know she did a Fantasy Football program on ESPN Colby has done commercial work Of course, there is always Rob and Amber.

No, not immediately. My point is that ANTM has never had a contestant excel at what the show is purpoted to do: discovering America's Next Top Model. And that's after, what, 7 or 8 cycles. On the other hand, while AI has had its share of flops (Taylor Hicks being the biggest, but also Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Burrino), some of the winners and contestants have hit it really big (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, etc). But I said it before, that if Kelly had lost out to talentless Justin Guarrini in AI's first season, AI would have never become so huge. Kelly Clarkson's success validated AI, and then the snowball became that much bigger. But if it goes through a few more seasons with no talent hitting it big, you'll see its decline (which is already in slow progress) intensify. For now, it's still, alas, the biggest show on television.

If you are going to scrap that far down in search of 'stardom' then ANTM has produced a bunch of star models. I think I will stick with the original statement that only American Idol is producing cast members with any lasting National popularity.

Interesting. But none of the current contestants strikes me as a future pop star. And the young David will probably win, even though few people would actually buy his records. They should really raise the age limit.

But that is the point to AI. To make a star. Survivor is just a game, but a few former players have done OK in the transistion to stardom.
