-Ratings Breakdown: Led by American Idol, it was another massive Tuesday victory for Fox. Tied for the No. 2 spot were ABC (in total viewers) and CBS and NBC (tied among adults 18-49). Last, and extremely least (as usual), was struggling the CW.
American Idol kicked-off off the evening with a rock-solid 25.19 million viewers and a 9.3 rating/25 share among adults 18-49. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Since I like to always make predictions, most deserving to exit tonight is Ramiele Malubay, who just does not belong in the final 9. But most likely to go, unfortunately, is perennial bottom three occupant Syesha Mercado, who I personally think did quite well this week. Word of advice to Carly Simon-like Brooke White: stop interrupting while the judges are critiquing you. It’s starting to grate on this viewer’s nerves.
American Idol led into the season-premiere of Hell’s Kitchen, which was second behind ABC’s Dancing With the Stars in total viewers (12.55 million), but first among adults 18-49, with a 5.7/14 in the demo from 9-10 p.m. Keep in mind, however, that retention for Hell’s Kitchen out of the last half-hour of American Idol was just 46 percent in total viewers and 56 percent among adults 18-49.
ABC was off, but not running with back-to-back episodes of Just For Laughs fourth from 8-9 p.m., with just 5.51 million viewers and a 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49. But the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show put the alphabet net on the map with 16.90 million viewers (#1) and a 3.9/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m. So long, Steve Guttenberg, whose downfall might have been the annoying brown-nosing. That led into 10 p.m. special, ABC News: Live to Be 150…Can You Do It? at a second-place 10.20 million viewers and a 2.5/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. If there is anyone out that there might live to 150 it is, no doubt, ageless host Barbara Walters, a true inspiration.
A repeat of CBS’ NCIS continued to hold up opposite American Idol, with 10.21 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49. Any repeat that can crack 10 million viewers is worthy of positive mention. Non-compatible lead-out Big Brother lost considerable steam, however, with a fourth-place finish in both total viewers (6.42 million) and adults 18-49 (2.4/ 6) at 9 p.m. To the few people who did watch Big Brother, wasn’t the footage with Sheila sitting in the john with Sharon telling her how honorable Josiah is while he is stabbing her in the back a riot? Am I the only one who can’t stand Josiah? Or Natalie for that matter?
Part two of CSI: Miami capped off the evening for CBS with a first-place 14.29 million viewers and a 4.1/11 in the demo, proving that the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour is not jinxed for the Eye net!
Another two-hour edition of NBC’s The Biggest Loser 4 was consistent at 8.22 million viewers and a 3.3/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., with growth in each half-hour as follows:
The Biggest Loser 8:00 p.m. Viewers: 6.78 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#2) 8:30 p.m. Viewers: 7.34 million (#3), A18-49: 3.0/ 8 (#2) 9:00 p.m. Viewers: 8.82 million (#3), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#2) 9:30 p.m. Viewers: 9.96 million (#3), A18-49: 4.0/10 (#3)
Considering the competition, this is an impressive performance for The Biggest Loser. A repeat of Law & Order: SVU capped off the evening for NBC with a last-place finish in both total viewers (5.75 million) and adults 18-49 (2.1/ 6).
Last, and very least once again, was the CW’s combination of Beauty and the Geek (Viewers: 1.57 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2), which needs to be cut loose after this season, and a repeat of Reaper (Viewers: 1.72 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 2). Maybe one day someone can tell me what is so special about Ashton Kutcher.
I expect results for WMC to be around what Barbara brought in last night, perhaps even slightly less in the viewer department. And if that's the case, then ABC will gain nothing by making the move. Kudos to a series high for Hell's Kitchen and to the Reaper encore which continues to out perform B&tG in total viewers. I'm hopeful Reaper won't lose much steam in its return to Tuesday in a few weeks.
These are good numbers, but really expected HK to do a lote better than just under 50% retension.
Does the censor at FOX get paid by the beep/blurry mouth for that show? If not, He should.

CBS needs to place a well established show in this slot come next fall.
My nomination goes to Numb3rs. Established, but has potential to take it to the next level on another night.

Then what fills Fridays? A new drama? The Unit behind Moonlight? That would make sense to me.
Depending on whats in development, I say tray a SciFi-ish night with Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight and a new show at 10pm.
Heck, I would even try Dexter on Friday Nights at 10pm.

Yeah, that was funny. The skeptic in me doesn't believe it really happened at the exact same time and it was just cliever editing but it was still funny.
Joshuah is a vile creep though so hopefully he will still get booted. The worst thing that can happen to the fans is if he stays and either Joshuah or James becomes HOH...that would be insufferable.

Why on Earth ABC keeps Just for Laughs around is beyond me -- and don't say because it's really cheap, because that's not a good enough reason. To finish 4th on a night with DWTS on is pathetic -- the BW special should have been on at 8pm, then kept the successful Primetime: WWYD series at 10pm, where it had been picking up steam. That would have been enough for 2nd place.
They just keep shooting themselves in the foot with bad scheduling decisions!
