-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox led the Wednesday troops care of American Idol, of course, which scored a typically potent 24.27 million viewers and a 9.1 rating/23 share among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. To put this into perspective, the second most-watched show of the evening was CBS’ CSI: NY, with 12.84 million viewers at 10 p.m. Needless to say, American Idol stands head and shoulders above anything else. As for the departure of Ramiele Malubay, it was time. Now, life would really be good if overrated Jason Castro was next.
Fox also dominated the 8 p.m. hour with the season-finale of The Moment of Truth at 10.02 million viewers and a 4.1/12 among adults 18-49. What I really liked about The Moment of Truth last night was the update on former contestants -- very smart maneuver.
CBS started out slow, but built as the night progressed with its combination of Big Brother 9 (Viewers: #3, 6.04 million; A18-49: #2, 2.2/ 7 -- so long Joshuah!), and the return of original episodes of Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 12.81 million; A18-49: #2, 3.4/ 9), which held up well opposite American Idol, and the aforementioned CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 12.84 million; A18-49: #1, 3.6/10).
Third overall in total viewers and fourth among adults 18-49 was NBC’s line-up of Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #2, 9.33 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.0/ 6), which worries me because I think the network is over-using it, a repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #4, 5.29 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 3), and a repeat of Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 6.52 million; A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5). For my thoughts on NBC’s just announced 2008-09 schedule, listen to today’s PIPodcast at

ABC had a particularly uneventful Wednesday as a result of Wife Swap (Viewers: #4, 5.71 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.0/ 6), Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 5.80 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 6) and hiatus-bound Men in Trees (Viewers: #3, 5.50 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 4). And the CW capped off the evening with the fading America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 4.08 million; A18-49: #5, 1.9/ 6), which declined by 1.14 million viewers and 27 percent among adults 18-49 from the year-ago telecast (Viewers: 5.22 million; A18-49: 2.6/ 8 on April 4, 2007), and a repeat of Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (Viewers: #5, 1.62 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2).
