-Yesterday’s Winners: Million Dollar Password (CBS), NBA Finals, Game 4 (ABC), CSI R (CBS), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats): Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC). Last Comic Standing (NBC), Fear Itself (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: ABC led this second Thursday in June care of game four of The NBA Finals (Lakers vs. the Celtics), with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Earlier in the evening, ABC aired Jimmy Kimmel Live at 8 p.m. ET, followed by NBA Countdown at 8:30 p.m. But since part of the 8 p.m. hour included The NBA Finals in the Central Time Zones, what follows is ABC broken out by half-hour:
ABC/Thursday 8:00 p.m. Viewers: 7.84 million (#2), A18-49: 2.9 rating/10 share (#1) 8:30 p.m. Viewers: 8.22 million (#2), A18-49: 3.2/11 (#1) 9:00 p.m. Viewers: 8.77 million (#2), A18-49: 3.5/11 (#1) 9:30 p.m. Viewers: 9.70 million (#2), A18-49: 4.0/11 (#1) 10:00 p.m. Viewers: 10.58 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/13 (#1) 10:30 p.m. Viewers: 10.67 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/13 (#1)
CBS finished second overall in total viewers and third among adults 18-49 with its combination of a Thursday edition of Million Dollar Password (Viewers: #1, 9.52 million; A18-49: #2, 2.0/ 7), a repeat of CSI (Viewers: #1, 9.37 million; A18-49: #2, 2.2/ 6), and week two of drama Swingtown (Viewers: #2, 7.25 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 7), which dipped by 1.32 million viewers and 18 percent among adults 18-49 from its debut one week earlier (Viewers: 8.57 million; A18-49: 2.8/ 8 on June 5). As for Million Dollar Password, don’t you just love that Betty White? Is she incredible, or what?
Fox was just the opposite of CBS, second in adults 18-49 and third in total viewers, with its combination of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Viewers: #3, 6.12 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 6) and the first live results edition of So You Think You Can Dance (Viewers: #3, 7.89 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8), which built from 5th Grader by a considerable 1.77 million viewers and 56 percent among adults 18-49. Personally, I think this is the best season of dancers the show has ever had.
NBC opened the evening with a repeat of My Name is Earl (Viewers: #4, 3.46 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 4), followed by another 90-minute installment of Last Comic Standing (Viewers: #4, 4.05 million; A18-49: #4, 1.7/ 6), which really needs to end, and week two of anthology series Fear Itself (Viewers: #3, 4.89 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 4). One week earlier, Fear Itself opened with an already disappointing 5.26 million viewers and a 2.0/ 6 in the demo.
The CW capped off the evening with repeats of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.89 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 3) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.73 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2).
Okay, I was wrong yesterday when I said FEAR ITSELF probably couldn't get any lower than last weeks...
SWINGTOWN...yes, there was drop off of curiousity seekers but also a strong NBA game on. Hopefully it will stabilize next week at this number and maybe CBS will make in a summer series only like BIG BROTHER. I'm what else are they going to put on next year another variation of a reality fiasco like PIRATE MASTER. I give CBS props for putting a new scriptd drama on during the summer.
I think Swingtown isn't a bad sampling for a summer staple show for CBS. They won't get huge numbers but not much does. I think a show like this could help bring in a different demo which CBS desperately needs and with it being on in the summer CBS isn't risking losing huge numbers by taking up a valuable fall/winter programming slot on the schedule. With that being said I think the numbers could be better if it wasn't on just an hour after Betty White was on the same channel. Talk about opposite ends of the demo spectrum. ha
I think Million Dollar Password has already proven itself as a strong show, even after just 3 airings. The show has been consistent for all 3 episodes, no matter what night it was on. What CBS should do is air this instead of The Amazing Race in the fall - it would probably do better out of 60 Minutes and beat it in total viewers. Just a thought.
And that's a little disappointing for Swingtown, but hopefully it can rebound with the NBA out of the way next week. It really is a good show.
Both Swingtown and Fear Itself had the NBA Finals against it last week, so clearly those who did sample it, didn't come back.
Swingtown may slowly drop in the ratings, much like Cane did, where as Fear Itself may not be around for July.

In a recent interview, Regis Philbin suggested that CBS will likely green-light new MDP episodes to air as early as August-September.
To me, I think the show could work as a stopgap show between TAR or Survivor tournaments. Wednesdays at 8 may also work if, as mentioned before, the comedy block flops.
I really enjoyed last night's ep of Swingtown. Erin Daniels adds a lot to the strong cast, and there may be a looming Susan / Trina relationship, which will keep me watching. Those who dropped from last week must have been the curious christian fundamentalists, the kind that keep old Hustler issues in their closet, but on the outside keep preaching for family values, just like the idiot new neighbour who came to dinner at Janet's last night.

I completely agree that Million Dollar Password is a strong show. It may never get great demos, but the viewer numbers are impressive especially for summer. However, I think moving (or canceling) Amazing Race for it would be a bad move. CBS is better off using Password for filler when something fails or between Amazing Race seasons.
NBA ratings will probably go up to around 15mil viewers when final ratings are released; Fear Itself fell only a couple thousand viewers from last week (but fell even further in the demo) yet still built off Last Comic Standing. Swingtown's drop was a bit more steep in both ratings and demos but it could level off by next week. I think most shows on Thursday nights will bounce back once Basketball is done.

.
Are you crazy? There's probably a million TAR fans marching on your house as we speak. It has a huge fan base myself included. We were done wrong last year only getting one edition even WITH the strike! Bite your tongue.

Or maybe it's just like tune-out for every other show: people didn't come back because they didn't like it.

It was just a though-LOL. I think TAR would do better in the summer, whereas MDP would do better in the fall. Amazing Race does good on Sunday nights, but it just seems out of place there. Or like others have said, it would make a nice filler show imbetween seasons of it.
