It will never be popular with the public.

30 Rock will NEVER be popular, and NBC knows that. They don't expect the ratings to go up, and neither do I. What keeps 30 Rock alive are the awards, and I bet that NBC will not cancel it until it stops getting more than 10 nominations or being a favourite in the series and acting categories. This is different from what happens with Friday Night Lights, that is still alive because of its critical acclaim, though it doesn't really get awards. 30 Rock is favourite this year in Comedy Series, Lead Comedy Actor and Lead Comedy Actress, and that is much more than Arrested Development ever accomplished. So I bet NBC is not anywhere near cancelling it. Yes, it does not bring money through advertisers, but what is NBC nowadays without their critical hits?

Aside from two or three shows, NBC really doesn't get all that much critical acclaim these days. Lets go through the lineup: Mondays-Chuck doesn't get much, Heroes got about zilch in nominations and was criticized heavily this year, SVU gets some mentions, Mothership L&O basically get put in the cut and dried category as does CI, ER is dying and ppl don't even remember its on, so that leaves the Office and 30 Rock. So, really NBC doesn't get that much critical acclaim. They do get criticism however for the way they treat some programs and for how stupidly they schedule things.

Oh, and Arrested Development was more of an ensemble piece. It doesn't rely on a few overrateds to keep it in the critics corner.

I just can't believe that 30 Rock got so many noms, including 7 noms for guest spots (4 actors and 3 actresses). And the only noms for lead or supporting I'm happy with are Neil Patrick Harris in the supporting category, Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths for Brohters & Sisters in the lead and supporting category respectively and Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh. Both in the supporting drama category.
What I do not get is the nom for Michael Emerson in the supporting category for Lost. I saw all the eps of Lost, and I didn't see anything spectacular good about his performance last season.
And why Amy Peohler got a nom for supporting in SNL is a miracle to me as well. She's funny at times, but not steller again.
Here's me hoping Ryan Seacrast (I would say Jeff Probst but he doesn't really do much until the reunion ep) wins as best reality host and The Amzing Race again for best reality competition.
But why Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross were overlooked with the great storylines they had last season on Desoperate Housewives is beyond me. And either Jim Parsons or Johnny Galecki deserved a nom as well for The Big Bang Theory. Aren't both Felicity and Marcia better than Mariska Hargitay. And Charlie Sheen, really!!!, better than all the other options that were out there.
I'm glad to see Lost got a nom for best drama because the season was the best since season 2. Afterall season 3 was a bit of a disappointment. I also think Emily Deschanel is getting better every season on Bones, perhaps next season she will get a nom as well.

They are still trying to prop up 30 Rock, just like they did with Arrested Development. It won't work.

Pushing Daisies got ONE nomination--Lee Pace--he doesn't have a prayer of winning. Dead in the water. Big Grin

As long as "The Office" remains on NBC there is gonna be a spot for "30 Rock" on the same night. It will never do well in the ratings but it will always carry lots of support from the critics and insiders in the television industry. If it was gonna get canceled because of ratings it wouldn't have survived into a 2nd season.

Did the ratings for "St. Elsewhere" ever improve? How long did that last? That show had about half the audience of its time slot competition, "Hotel." "Hotel" never got a single Emmy nomination in 5 years on the air. "St. Elsewhere" got 62. "St. Elsewhere" lasted one season longer than "Hotel," by the way.

Last I checked, "30 Rock's" ratings weren't that much worse than "My Name Is Earl's" -- and unlike that show, it doesn't have the stigma of having once been a huge hit only to have most of its audience desert it. I wonder why no one here ever predicts the impending demise of "Earl?" You know, the impeding demise of the not-exactly-high-rated, no-longer-critic-darling, only-received-one-Emmy-nom-this-season-(in-a-tech-category), not-in-house "Earl?"

As for "Arrested Development," the funny thing is, no matter how low-rated it was, the media agencies always seemed to love blabbing about it, for some reason. I totally hated the show, but they loved it.

"Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

Sorry, that is incorrect. Thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

I don't hate the show. I seriously thought it had ended a year or two ago. I must be mixing it up with The West Wing. I'm a big fan of Spader and I was happy to see Shatner win a few years ago. Sometimes it's nice to see people rewarded for sticking with something even when people ridicule them for years (IMO, with reason), but enough is enough.

The Emmy voters have a tendency to vote for the same things year after year, or whatever the new BIG thing is (whatever their grand-kids are talking about, I suspect), regardless of the quality of the competition. Witness Everyone Loves Raymond winning over and over and over again. It ticks me off! The whole thing needs an overhaul.

What do 2 1/2 Men's ratings have to do with Charlie Sheen getting a nod? Isn't it supposed to be about quality?

I didn't even know it was still on. Better noms than usual. But still! Boston Legal over The Wire? Charlie Sheen? William effing Shatner, AGAIN??? Seriously? Shatner's spot could have gone to an actor.

If the Wire was all that great, Emmy would've taken notice. As for Boston Legal, the fans are over you haters. If you had seen some of the fantastic work Spader and Shatner have done this year, perhaps you would change your mind. Charlie Sheen, meanwhile, got nominated because he is the lead of the most popular comedy (and not a half bad comedy at that) on TV today. I can stomach him over any of the people on NBC comedies anyday.
