It will last the season, but not much beyond if the ratings do not improve. Critical acclaim does not make money for the network. Ratings do. The advertisers will only pay so much to advertise on a low rated show like that no matter what the critics think. This show will go the way of Arrested Development. It will never be popular with the public.

30 Rock will NEVER be popular, and NBC knows that. They don't expect the ratings to go up, and neither do I. What keeps 30 Rock alive are the awards, and I bet that NBC will not cancel it until it stops getting more than 10 nominations or being a favourite in the series and acting categories. This is different from what happens with Friday Night Lights, that is still alive because of its critical acclaim, though it doesn't really get awards. 30 Rock is favourite this year in Comedy Series, Lead Comedy Actor and Lead Comedy Actress, and that is much more than Arrested Development ever accomplished. So I bet NBC is not anywhere near cancelling it. Yes, it does not bring money through advertisers, but what is NBC nowadays without their critical hits?

hey all, how've you been? trying to get back into the swing of posting ratings and such.

xposting from my blog...

Well, it looks like Bravo's attempt to lay Project Runway off worked... ish. Here are the premiere numbers.
- 1.9/3 households
- 1.4/4 A18-49
- 2.915 million viewers

While not at, er, girlicious... fierce... whatever... While not as good as last season's premiere, given the fact that the cable network didn't promote the show to the extent to which it has in the past, these are good results.

Plus, it gave Shear Genius a boost, which is ultimately far more important to Bravo now that PR is headed for different pastures:

Shear Genius (versus last week)
- 1.5/3 households (vs. 0.9/2)
- 1.0/3 A18-49 (vs. 0.6/2)
- 2.164 million viewers (vs. 1.159)

I really don't get Emmys' fascination with Boston Legal.

I didn't even know it was still on. Better noms than usual. But still! Boston Legal over The Wire? Charlie Sheen? William effing Shatner, AGAIN??? Seriously? Shatner's spot could have gone to an actor. And Mariska Hargitay over Mary McDonnell is a crime.

There were some nominations that give me hope for the process.

Dexter and Damages for Best Show
Michael C. Hall and Bryan Cranston for Best Actor - drama
Zeljko Ivanek (really love this one) and Ted Danson for Best Supporting Actor - drama
Kristin Chenoweth for Best Supporting Actress - comedy

Check out this dog of a category:

OUTSTANDING MINISERIES

The Andromeda Strain (A&E)
Cranford (PBS)
John Adams (HBO)
Tin Man (Sci Fi Channel)

When you can only find two legitimate nominees, maybe it's time to get retire the category. I find it hard to believe that the Emmy voters sat through Tin Man.

The comedy picks are a big meh for me. I watch none of those shows. Since Chuck and Eureka are considered comedies, I would have much preferred those two over anything that was nominated. Ray Wise from Reaper would have been a good pick too.

That word is unknown to me...

BTW, I looked back in the archives after seeing TVGuide.com say PR had its best premiere ever. PR4's premiere did slightly better in the demo (1.5) but slightly worse in viewers (2.890 million). So, kind of a technical wash... but a victory for the show and Bravo nonetheless since it wasn't promoted the way prior seasons have been and because it moved to a new timeslot (though one that generally has more viewers... it's still a timeslot change).

What if we just refer to it as the 'Men are Bad' channel? Can we expect that next year's Project Runway will have a final 4 that are all women? Three women and one guy that acts like Gordon Ramsey? Wink

Speaking of the 'Men are Bad' channel, I read something last week that hinted that they were getting together with MRC (the group that bought Sunday night on CW) in an effort to 'fast track' a sitcom to syndication levels. If a syndication package normally requires 100 episodes, that means a sitcom has to run for 4 years before it reaches that level. However, if you ran the sitcom 5 nights per week (like a daytime soap opera), there would be enough episodes to syndicate after just a year. Do you (or does anyone else) think a plan like that could work given the current drought of new sitcoms available for syndication?

If the Wire was all that great, Emmy would've taken notice. As for Boston Legal, the fans are over you haters. If you had seen some of the fantastic work Spader and Shatner have done this year, perhaps you would change your mind. Charlie Sheen, meanwhile, got nominated because he is the lead of the most popular comedy (and not a half bad comedy at that) on TV today. I can stomach him over any of the people on NBC comedies anyday.

has anyone seen a promo or know anything about abc's Wanna Bet? Seems like they are not advertising its premiere at all.
