So many well-deserved Emmy Nominations spread around to my shows and liberally sprinkled across all the major broadcast and cablecast networks. Some highlights for me:
17 Nominations
30 Rock (NBC) -> Congratulations Miss Tina Fey, the most powerful woman in comedy today.
16 Nominations
Mad Men (AMC) -> Not a surprise. Mad Men deserves an award in every category nominated.
12 Nominations
Pushing Daisies (ABC) -> This must be a real joy to all those at the Alplhabet who have supported this series from the start.
8 Nominations
Cranford (Masterpiece Theatre) (PBS) -> An outstanding production, brimming with quality.
The Office (NBC) -> This series is steadily getting better and better.
7 Nominations
Boston Legal (ABC) -> I’m thrilled for Mr. Kelley, and overjoyed that he will be penning every single episode in this upcoming season.
Damages (FX / MyNetworkTV) -> I’m giving MyNetworkTV just an ounce of recognition for this series which they helped to launch last summer. Unfortunately, MyNet was completely overlooked and didn’t get deserved recognition in the Outstanding Special Class categories for their excellent concert music series, Control Room Presents… and for the thrilling awards special "The World Magic Awards".
Lost (ABC) -> Should have got at least double the number of nominations, and it is absolutely criminal that Miss Elizabeth Mitchell continues to be ignored.
6 Nominations
Saturday Night Live (NBC) -> The last bastion of network variety still raking in the noms after four decades of tickling America’s funny bone.
5 Nominations
Battlestar Galactica (SciFi) -> I had to put my glasses on when I saw this total...what, only 5? Again, BG should have got three times the number of noms and in all major categories…still one more half-season to send around as screeners to the octagenarians who short-list these noms.
4 Nominations
Breaking Bad (AMC) -> AMC is the new HBO, and is batting 1.000 in the series department.
Flight Of The Conchords (HBO) -> The only HBO series worthy of Academy recognition.
3 Nominations
American Masters (PBS) -> Virtually every episode leaves me enriched of the American spirit. Why have all the major commercial networks so given up on the documentary series aside from their newsmagazines?
Brothers & Sisters (ABC) -> Congratulations Mr. Berlanti for pole-vaulting over from The WB to the Alphabet, and finding yourself a network that will sing from the rooftops about your creative endeavours.
The Daily Show With Jon Stewart (COMEDY) -> Mr. Stewart’s daily commentary provides laughs and numerous points of reflection…and an excellent stream of great non-fiction authors who’s books are most rewarding.
Weeds (SHOWTIME) -> The one show that makes me want to take up the bong.
2 Nominations
AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies - 10th Anniversary Edition (CBS) -> Wasn’t this three hours of magnificent tribute the very best of American film genres, from silents to sound.
Chuck (NBC) -> Bravo NBC for sticking by this gem of the comedic-scifi genre (The CW's "Reaper" also deserves recognition in this genre).
Nip/Tuck (F/X) -> The move to LA gave this darkly humourous series the facelift it so sorely needed.
Rescue Me (F/X) -> One of these days, Miss Tatum O’Neal will get her well-deserved Emmy, and I hope it is for her work on this show.
1 Nominations
Canterbury's Law (FOX) -> Like Drive last season, Emmy has found a way to recognize a series that FOX cut bait on too soon.
Creature Comforts America (CBS) -> Emmy voters and I could not forget this summertime treat so savagely curtailed by CBS before audiences could embrace it.
Friday Night Lights (NBC) -> It's third and long for next season, and hopefully we see a pass to the Emmy endzone next year. FNL shares NBC’s best drama laurels with Medium, and both series have been severely under-recognized this year.
Hallmark Hall of Fame “Brother Of The Bride” (CBS) -> The Hallmark tradition for outstanding television includes a tradition of Emmy recognition.
Hallmark Hall Of Fame Presentation “Pictures Of Hollis Woods” (CBS) -> Bravo, Hallmark, Bravo!
Masters Of Science Fiction (ABC) -> See Mr. McPherson, the show was a gemstone, and you let it slip through your fingers. Luckily, Mr. Silverman had faith in the equally rewarding “Fear Itself” anthology series which is a virtual continuation of the “Masters of…” series.
Medium (NBC) -> Only one, measley nomination. For shame, Academy, for shame. Miss Angelica Huston deserves recognition as Best Supporting Actress.
New Amsterdam (FOX) -> Again, a show that deserved many more noms, but at least this will enter the show in the Emmy Awards databases for posterity.
Pioneers Of Television (PBS) - Late Night: Johnny, Jack, Steve, And Merv -> This entire series was such a sentimental journey to the television of yesteryear. I hope PBS continues this wonderful series, and unearths more rare and long-thought-lost video from the golden and silver age of the tube.
Supernatural (The CW) -> I do believe this is Supernatural’s very first Emmy nomination, and only the third nomination to go to The CW.
The 61st Annual Tony Awards (CBS) -> The crown jewel of award shows…t’would get more nominations if it was eligible for more categories.
It's cute that people still think that for some reason NBC is gonna cancel "30 Rock" any time soon. Not gonna happen. As long as "The Office" remains on NBC there is gonna be a spot for "30 Rock" on the same night. It will never do well in the ratings but it will always carry lots of support from the critics and insiders in the television industry. If it was gonna get canceled because of ratings it wouldn't have survived into a 2nd season.
I guess it's safe to say that 30 Rock is now a Arrested Development-sized critic hit. I never understood the appeal of the show, but last week I watched the Sandwich day episode, and it was actually very good.

It will last the season, but not much beyond if the ratings do not improve. Critical acclaim does not make money for the network. Ratings do. The advertisers will only pay so much to advertise on a low rated show like that no matter what the critics think. This show will go the way of Arrested Development. It will never be popular with the public.
It is dead. Every subsequent airing, the ratings are getting lower and lower. It'll bottom out at around 5.5 million and a 1.7 in the demo which is terrible. That would be worse than the winter numbers which were widely seen as disasterous for CBS.

At this point, they could probably put in repeats of their stronger shows and get the same (if not better) numbers. Sure the cast and all might be great (I don't know, I don't watch) but clearly the masses don't feel the same way as the BB fans.
EDIT: Media Life is reporting that last night BB DID in fact hit a series low...
Congrats to the cast and crew of Pushing Daisies. 12 nominations is FANTASTIC!
I'm sure ABC will be happy with that!
Let's hope more people will realise what they're missing out on when Season 2 starts up again.
Talking of Pushing Daisies...
quote:
David Arquette is following in the footsteps of his Scrubs-bound wife, Courteney Cox, and heading back to the tube this fall. Arquette, last seen (or not) on the small screen in the ABC comedy In Case of Emergency, has signed on to guest star in this season's fourth episode of Pushing Daisies, titled "Freshcorts." Daisies' Emmy-nominated creator, Bryan Fuller, describes his character thusly: "While investigating a murder, Ned encounters the socially awkward Randy Mann, who has a secret, special talent that unexpectedly bonds him to the Pie-Maker." It's official: Randy Mann is so the new Ben Dover.
Awesome news!
Also, congrats to the cast & crew of Lost too!
