I didnt expect much from Fear Itself considering it's horrible lead-in. Last Comic Standing should be put to rest in an episode of Fear Itself.

Actually, that gave me hope that the show would be about character development rather than just turning into something where there was a string of dead bodies for every season opener, sweeps period, and finale. I still saw hints that a drug overdose was going be coming for someone (most likely the tinfoil neighbor lady), but hopefully the show can try to stick with resonable plotlines instead of having to put everything over the top.

I haven't watched Fear Itself yet, but these numbers are disapointing from the simple aspect that so few viewers combined for the two shows. I know that NBA ate into the viewership (male viewership anyway), but honestly, these same two shows debuting in February would have combined for 20 million instead of 14.
For character development, you need characters worth developing, and I can't say I noticed any last night.
The lack of good sex scenes aside, the lack of good characters, aside, the lack of plot aside, the lack of well-written dialogue aside--the whole point of a show like this is to bring a bygone era to life--or at least a particular vision of it. I didn't get a very strong sense of time or place from Swingtime, in spite of all the shopworn 70's motifs.
I put up with a lot of dubious things in Mad Men because the production design is so vivid and engrossing, and the characters are strong enough to keep you interested. Freaks and Geeks did the 70's far more convincingly than Swingtown (and still only lasted a few episodes).
Swingtown seems to be more of an idea for a show about somebody's idea of the 70's than an actual show about the actual 70's.
I may actually like it less than The Black Donnellys. Well, maybe it's not that bad. But only because of Molly Parker. I'd watch if she were naked in it. Character development be damned.
I really liked Swingtown last night. The plot seemed fine to me, and I"m looking forward to watching the show grow over the summer. Sure, the pilot wasn't anything extroadinary, but it was still very watchable. I'm sure if it was on in midseason, it would have gotten 10 million easy. I just hope it grows in the next few weeks, and even possibly make a slot on the lineup for next season.
I know this is kinda off topic but is anyone else pissed that prison break got moved to sept 1? Not only am I mad because I am moving into my apartment for college that day and am unsure if I'll have cable hook-up then, but starting on labor day? Good luck getting decent ratings. They are better off doing it in august...dumb move fox
Swingtown premiered decently. It did good enough to not get pulled, but I doubt it will return next year. Who knows, maybe CBS will keep it as a summer show. Fear Itself was DOA as expected.

It will build if it is a good series. If it goes 6 or 7 games those two games will be very highly rated. The first few games probably will not rate that high.

Did you make the effort to let Kevin Reilly know you were unavailable that night?
Are Fox execs supposed to be mind readers?

Speaking only for myself, but most of my friends who tried to watch Game 1 of the NBA finals also find it impossible to watch basketball anymore. Non-NBA fans used to joke that the games were only interesting in the last 2 or 3 minutes but to me, that is when the games get even MORE tedious. I don't want to sit through 3 and 1/2 quarters of sloppy basketball, waiting for the exciting crunch time that has now been replaced by even sloppier play and the constant parade to the free throw line. All the game is now is constant fouling and the idea of these professional athletes standing at a line, shooting free throws (also horribly) dulls me to tears, along with all of the timeouts and commercial breaks. The NBA used to be an exciting event on TV but has pretty much been ruined for me and I can see why the ratings are so horrible. I caught the last Lakers-Celtics series on ESPN Classic and it was highly entertaining from start to finish. This new 'sports-entertainment' style has only alienated me.
