-Total Viewers:
CBS: 5.95 million, NBC: 5.88, ABC: 4.26, CW: 3.99, Fox: 3.40

-Adults 18-49:
NBC: 1.5 rating/6 share, CBS: 1.4/ 5, ABC, Fox and CW: 1.3/ 5 each

--------------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Friday’s Winners:
Nothing

-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
20/20 (ABC), the night overall

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and NBC shared leadership on this typically dull pre-summer Friday, with CBS the most-watched network (70,000 viewers ahead of NBC), and NBC No. 1 in households and adults 18-49. Third overall was ABC, followed by the CW and Fox. With the exception of a two-hour edition of NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s 20/20 and Friday Night Smackdown! on the CW, repeats were the unfortunate observation.

CBS opened the evening with a repeat of Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: #1, 5.41 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.2/ 5 at 8 p.m.), followed by another encore telecast of the Jennifer Love Hewitt drama (Viewers: #2, 5.73 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.4/ 5), and a repeat of Numb3rs (Viewers: #1: 6.72 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 6).

NBC aired two repeat episodes of the overused Most Outrageous Moments from 8-9 p.m. (Viewers: #3, avg. 4.45 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 1.1/ 5), followed by a two hour edition of Dateline at 6.59 million viewers and a 1.7/ 6 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:

Dateline (NBC)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 6.56 million (#1), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#1t)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 7.46 million (#1), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#1)
10:00 p.m. Viewers: 6.21 million (#2), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#1)
10:30 p.m. Viewers: 6.12 million (#2), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#1)

It’s sad, no doubt, when the top-rated series for the evening among adults 18-49 averages under a two rating in the demo.

ABC kicked-off Friday with a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 4.53 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.3/ 5), followed by two repeat episodes of the horrific According to Jim (Viewers: #5, avg. 3.24 million; A18-49: #5, avg. 1.1/ 4), and 20/20 (Viewers: #3, 4.99 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 5). If there was ever a show begging to be canceled, it’s According to Jim.

Next was the CW’s soon-to-relocate Friday Night Smackdown! at a below-average 3.99 million viewers (#4) and a 1.3/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3t, 1.3/ 5) from 8-10 p.m. And capping off the uneventful evening was a repeat of theatrical White Chicks on Fox at 3.40 million viewers (#5) and a 1.3/ 5 in the demo (#3t, 1.3/ 5).

To whet your appetite for some original programming, here is what you will be seeing on Fridays this fall:

9:00 p.m. Supernanny (new day)
10:00 p.m. 20/20

Fox

9:00 p.m. Don’t Forget the Lyrics (new day)

This Friday was a real wasteland (mind The CW). Tonight's numbers might actually be better.

I don't understand why ABC feels the need to air According to Jim on Fridays, with these numbers, once a week is enough. Most Outrageous Moments is on almost every day now, and it's getting annoying.

ABC should just move Wife Swap and Supernanny to Fridays already, they would do better than this.

It's not going to be that much better come fall, I'm afraid. It's CBS vs a bunch of game and reality shows, for the most part. Easy win for CBS.

CBS might win the overall viewership (its going to be close between FOX and CBS), but they will at best be second in the demos (FOX's game shows will be first) and it will be close with ABC, CBS, and NBC (if DOND gets part ownership of the 9 PM hour) for second in the demos. CBS 9 PM hour is the weakest link and GW/Numbers are going to skew older than game shows/reality shows.

I don't think THESE game and reality shows (Are you smarter than a fifth grader or America's toughest jobs) can get even closer to the solid demos of GW and Numb3rs. The Ex List, however, is s wildcard. It can become a hit among young females, similar audience as the late Men in Trees or October Road, and it can also flop. Who knows.

Both ABC's and FOX's reality/game show slate has been pulling in the low to mid 2 demos (on par with GW and Numbers demos) all season and I don't see any reason for there to be a mass exit on Friday, especially with reduced competition. The ABC block faced Idol some weeks so it could even gain viewers. Supernanny skews heavily female and will be the biggest challenge to Ex List. It will take away some of Ex List's female audience. If CBS wanted to counterprogram, they should have put the male skewing The Unit at 9 PM. It would have an audience more to itself and be more competitive in the timeslot. America's Toughest Jobs is counterprogramming and trying to go for the males not interested in ABC or CBS' offerings. DOND would be more competitive there.

CBS will remain KING on friday nights for a while. They are commited to scripted programs that do well.

NBC might give them a run with thier Friday lineup, but as we've seen in the last 2-3 seasons, NBC has not been picking good programs for ANY night.

Scripted doesn't mean you'll be king though, especially with the demos. Fox imo will probably come out on top in the demo Fridays this fall. In fact, anybody really could. CBS will however, likely win the viewers.

Ranging from 1.3/5 to 1.5/6, everyone is tied at a loss with only Dateline being a possible winner. Speaking of which, it's interesting how viewers drop, but demo increases.
