Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
---------------
-Yesterday’s Winners: NBA Finals, Game 1 (ABC), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)
-Respectable Sampling: Swingtown (CBS)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats): Last Comic Standing (NBC), Fear Itself (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: Game one of the NBA Finals led ABC to victory on this first Thursday of June, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Second was Fox care of So You Think You Can Dance, followed by CBS, NBC and the CW.
A prime-time edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live opened the evening for ABC, but since the NBA Finals is factored in the results in the Central Time Zone markets, the reported 8.22 million viewers and a 2.9 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 is not accurate. To best report the results, here is the half-hour breakdown on ABC last night:
Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
Another two-hour edition of Fox’s must see So You Think You Can Dance was on the map, with a very respectable 9.08 million viewers (#2) and a 3.3/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 8-10 p.m.
In the battle of the competing scripted series premieres, CBS drama Swingtown kick-off with a large advantage over NBC anthology Fear Itself. Take a look:
Thursday 10 p.m. Swingtown (CBS) – Viewers: 8.58 million (#2), A18-49: 2.8/ 8 (#2) Fear Itself (NBC) – Viewers: 5.23 million (#3), A18-49: 2.0/ 6 (#3)
Earlier in the evening on CBS were back-to-back repeats of CSI as follows:
CSI R (CBS) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 8.23 million (#3), A18-49: 1.9/ 4 (#4) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.43 million (#2), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#4)
The positive news for Swingtown was growth out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of the CSI encore (Viewers: 9.81 million; A18-49: 2.5/ 7) of 12 percent in the demo.
A two-hour edition of NBC’s Last Comic Standing was left at the starting gate, meanwhile, with a mere 4.94 million viewers and 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Isn’t it time to put this summer franchise to rest?
The CW capped off the evening with repeats of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.70 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.77 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2) from 8-10 p.m.
What a let down!!! I thought for sure the numbers would be much bigger for the NBA championships, considering that it featured two high profile teams from two large markets it should have done better.
Good numbers for Swingtown especially the growth in the demo.
This could either go the way of Windfall, or it could do decently for summer. CBS' shows tend to show stability, so I think there will be dropoff but not severe dropoff.
Did it grow or decline between half-hours?

Good for SWINGTOWN...that answers my question yesterday who would win SWINGTOWN or FEAR.
Hopefully viewers will return to the show next week after the sampling.
Regarding FEAR ITSELF well ANTHOLOGY shows have a tough go of it. For some reason viewers don't embrace them. Probably the last successful or semi sucessful ones were AMAZING STORIES and the remade HITCHCOCK PRESENTS and that was the 1980's.
The WESTERN has a better chance of making a comeback.
Most sports fans are turned off by the NBA game. You might see an increase if it gets to a game 6 and/or 7, and the games are close. Otherwise, get use to the 10 million (+/-) numbers.

I wouldn't call either AS or AHP even "semi successful".
You basically have to go back to Night Gallery and Twighlight Zone for ANY success in this format.
I love Molly Parker in anything--but this. Swingtown sucked. Curiosity, combined with nothing else to watch, lured people to the party. They won't stay.
