Don't worry, Supernatural isn't going anywhere right now. The CW has too many other nights to worry about before it considers dropping SN. Anyway, this is quite normal for the show, it got 2.94 million on November 13 and last season, it came back after the hiatus with 2.95 million. So this isn't out of the ordinary and it has shown in the past that its ratings don't increase or decrease given what Smallville does.

Would SciFi consider picking this show up ? Marc any info about the rating/demos for The Beast starring Patrick Swayze ?

Supernatural's number really isn't that far off of its normal, it just stands out more because Smallville is near a season high. Congratulations to Smallville for hitting CW's highest rating so far in 2009. I am sure CW is glad to finally have their #1 scripted show back on the air with fresh episodes. Now they only need to get ANTM back to be at 'full power'.
CSI did about as well as expected and roughly the same numbers as its season premiere.
GA has been falling all year, so it's numbers aren't surprising. It'll likely fall again in the Spring. PP is doing a decent job at 10 PM, but right now it's just a placeholder.
Smallville did really well for CW.
KN was just a placeholder for Bones. Really low season finale numbers. HK should do much better on Thursdays.

I expect CSI to go way up when finals are released. You have 15 minutes of the 8pm repeat factored in to the Original.

After four nights of Week 17, FOX (thanks to 'American Idol')holds an insurmountable lead over the other nets in A18-49 with a hefty 7.35 average, with CBS coming in second with a 3.83 average, ABC third with 2.65, NBC fourth with 2.50, Univision fifth with 1.70, The CW is sixth with a 1.04, while MyNetworkTV trails with 0.40 in A18-49.
In viewers, FOX is leading with an average of 19,110,000 viewers, while CBS is second, NBC third, ABC fourth, Univision fifth, The CW sixth and MyNetworkTV seventh.

Year-over-year numbers for the first 16 weeks of the season show a strengthening of the seven networks that began during the November Sweep, picked up some steam during December before falling back during the holiday weeks, but the trend in the New Year is one of stable numbers vs last season.
I completely agree with you regarding the ratings for Supernatural. If the CW decides to cancel one of its highest rated shows that competes during one of the strongest hours on television, then they'll be even more deserving of the ax that will eventually fall on them. I'd love to see how Gossip Girl would do in this slot, I bet it would struggle to get 2 million.
On a side note, first time poster, but long time reader. Thanks to Marc and all the other knowledgeable people on this board for creating a great place to discuss network tv.

Agreed. CSI should get a big bump up and Eleventh Hour should have a big bump down.
Side note: while I am sure that the Bush/CSI overrun into the 10pm hour hurt the other networks at 10pm, I think that it is clear that Private Practice really has taken a half point of demo and a couple million viewers away from ER. ABC can probably expect Private Practice to pick up more viewers when ER departs and NBC gives up the 10pm timeslot to Jay leno. For that NBC scheduling reason alone, ABC should probably keep Private Practice in this timeslot again next year.
Also in the 9 p.m. hour were just renewed NBC sitcoms The Office (Viewers: #3, 8.35 million; A18-49: #3, 4.3/10) and 30 Rock (Viewers: #3, 6.59 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 7), which were both below average
Actually, The Office was above average--honestly, they have been getting the show back into decent shape lately. Though I must confess, any episode that heavily features Rainn Wilson is going to make me laugh--"You-must-learn-your rulesssss----or you'll-be-eaten--in-your-sleep!"
30 Rock could not have a more compatible lead-in, or more hype, and it still loses almost two million viewers, and slightly over a full percentage point in the demo. NBC can keep it on for another decade, but it'll never catch on.
As somebody blogging the Golden Globes said "It's official--30 Rock now has more awards than it has viewers."
