If ABC wanted to have college basketball they would, they'd flip a switch and have ESPN's Saturday night game on ABC and have ESPN have a lesser game on. That is what they do with football, ABC has the bigger game, and ESPN takes the lesser.

I give NASCAR credit for trying, but I think they are finally going to have to admit to defeat by Mother Nature.
Back in the rain delay, Fox is breaking away for "The Simpsons" at 9:30 p.m. ET followed by local affil programming. NASCAR update at 11 p.m.
It seemed like FOX had unofficial knowledge that the race would be postponed until Monday, but since it wasn't official they couldn't say that. Gordon was on fire in this race ... of course, so were Hornish and Mears. That was a scary wreck for a few minutes.

Sure ABC could do this, but I doubt ABC would improve on the ratings that they have been getting from theatrical repeats (with the rare exception from a game like last night between #1 and #2). College basketball is not even close to college football in popularity and ratings in the regular season.

Since The Price Is Right did well on Friday night, how do you think Power of 10 would do on Saturday nights?
8pm - CSI Encores 9pm - Power of 10 10pm - 48 Hours
I just think Power of 10 belongs in the summer. Maybe as a lead in for Big Brother, or a lead out of Big Brother.
I always people say that a given show "belongs in the summer". What does this mean? Does it simply mean that it is more acceptable to have a ratings loser on in the summer than outside of the summer? Does everyone think that just because Power of 10 airs in the summer that people will watch it that will not watch in the winter?

Both shows have better ratings in the summer. People watch them because there is really nothing else to watch. By putting them in the fall, there is more competition.

It is not always as easy as ABC takes the bigger game and ESPN gets the lesser. ABC and ESPN have separate broadcasting deals with different conferences. For instance, ESPN has rights to SEC in football, which ABC does not. ESPN only has rights to a small number of PAC 10 games per year, while ABC has PAC 10 games every week. Just because ESPN and ABC act as 1 unit, does not mean they share rights to all games. The same goes in basketball. If ABC wanted to air a primetime package of basketball they would have to acquire additional rights to air these games. They have a very limited rights deal currently and only air at most 1 game per week, and some weeks air no games.

Not only would the ratings be lower but they would basically be promoting March Madness for CBS. If ABC/ESPN ever gets the NCAA Tournament then college basketball games on Saturday would probably be a good idea.
As for the NBA, I think ABc could get the games if they wanted. they would just have to go to the NBa and work something out. The only holdup could be the old Turner stations. Doesn't TNT have a package that somtimes shows Saturday Night NBA games.
Also, I guess I was wrong about the race being cancelled.

Power of 10 had good ratings when it first started, then it burned down as the summer winded down. If the show was a smash hit in the summer, it would still do well in the winter. Same happened with NBCs Singing Bee. Started strong in the summer, burned down as the summer went on, then crashed in the fall. Both shows could have been left off the air until next summer and they still would not have gotten good ratings again.
Also, when Power of 10 came back in January, its only compeition was Deal or No Deal. The other networks were airing repeats of Back To You (FOX) and Supernanny (ABC). And on 1/10 all it could muster was 6.12 million and 1.8 18-49. The show is dead whether it airs in the summer or in the winter. Maybe CBS will give it another shot in the summer, but it would be a mistake.
By the way, can anyone name a show that has been such a success in the summer, and could not do well other times of the year, only to return in the summer to do well? I might be wrong, but I don't think there is an example. And Big Brother does not count, because it has never done particularly well in the summer.

TNT has never aired games on Saturday nights. ABC might be able to get games for Saturday nights, but I don't think there is a chance they could get time period exclusivity, which all of the networks currently get in MLB, NHL, and NBA. They are way too many games on Saturday nights for the NBA to grant an exclusive slot to ABC.
