Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

-Ratings Breakdown: Led by House, Fox dominated this typical Tuesday in both total viewers and adults 18-49, with the home of NCIS, CBS, second in viewers but fourth in the demo. Despite airing the live Dancing With the Stars results show, ABC finished third overall (it can thank Cavemen and Carpoolers for that). NBC was fourth in total viewers but second among adults 18-49, while the CW finished a deep fifth.
Remarkable NCIS won the 8-9 p.m. hour, with 17.43 million viewers and a 3.7 rating/10 share among adults 18-49. Second was Fox’s also underrated Bones (Viewers: 9.11 million; A18-49: 3.4/ 9), followed by the first half of a two-hour edition of NBC’s The Biggest Loser 4 (Viewers: 7.92 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 9), ABC’s Cavemen (Viewers: 4.61 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 5) and Carpoolers (Viewers: 5.15 million; A18-49: 1.9/ 5), which both sunk to series lows, and the CW’s lackluster Beauty and the Geek (Viewers: 2.43 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3). Comparably, Beauty and the Geek declined by 2.08 million viewers and 40 percent in the demo from year-ago occupant Gilmore Girls (Viewers: 4.51 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 5), and Gilmore Girls at the time was fading fast. As for the ABC “comedies,” tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.
Top-rated 9-10 p.m. honors were shared between ABC’s live Dancing With the Stars Results Show and Fox’s House as follows:
Tuesday 9 p.m. Dancing With the Stars (ABC) Viewers: 17.46 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#2)
House (Fox) Viewers: 16.90 million (#2), A18-49: 7.0/17 (#1)
Tied for the No. 3 and 4 spots at 9 p.m. were CBS’ The Unit and the second half of NBC’s The Biggest Loser as follows:
Tuesday 9 p.m. The Unit (CBS) Viewers: 11.03 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 7 (#4)
The Biggest Loser (NBC) Viewers: 8.40 million (#4), A18-49: 3.7/ 9 (#3)
Overall, and despite facing hefty competition, The Biggest Loser 4 averaged 8.16 million viewers and a comfortable 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Capping off the 9 p.m. hour was the CW’s disappointing Reaper at just 2.42 million viewers and a 1.2/ 3 in the demo. Comparably, this was almost identical to former failed occupant Veronica Mars.
NBC moved into the 10 p.m. winner’s circle care of Law & Order: SVU, which scored 12.49 million viewers and a 4.4/12 among adults 18-49. Second was ABC’s Boston Legal (Viewers: 11.76 million; A18-49: 2.9/ 8), which has narrowed the viewer gap thanks to lead-in Dancing With the Stars, followed by CBS’ Cane at a marginal 7.29 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49. One year earlier, drama 3 Lbs. debuted in this time period with 9.86 million viewers and a 2.9/ 8 in the demo.
If the pattern continues, after finals, Boston Legal was still manage arond 11 million and a 2.7 or so in the demo- pretty much the same as it has for the whole season (or a bit higher).
What annoys me is how ABC is pulling the show for the next (2) weeks. I wonder how it will do when it returns in (3) weeks with new episodes. They do have (8) episodes left that are produced, though.
Sorry but Cavemen should go immediately. As for Cane i give credit to CBS for maintaining the show so far but it needs to do something: or try it in another time slot or cancel it
This is going to sound weird-but I love carpoolers. I think it is a funny show. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I believe it's a good show. Of course I also liked Ted Danson's "help you help me", which was also low rated on ABC post Dancing.
Actually Mark, Carpoolers held its demo this week while Cavemen continued to sink. I am sure you haven't watched the show in awhile and merely lump it in with the debacle that is Cavemen, but I challenge you to actually watch last night's episode of Carpoolers. You can catch it online at ABC.com. Let me know if you still think, ratings aside, if it is a loser of a comedy. I think it has finally found it's voice and last night's episode was hilarious. This challenge goes out to all readers in this forum. I am curious to hear your thoughts.
How exactly would the writers' strike affected viewer levels? The episode was new and as far as I know there is no parallel "viewer strike" -- the writers strike would affect the shows once they have to go into repeats...
Am I missing something?

Do we really think anything is going to get canceled? wouldn't the better phrase be 'not renewed'. I can't see any network in this strike season canceling shows. Let them play out what is filmed and then vanish...

I dont think that has anything to do with the viewer drop... I'd imagine some of the new eyes on NCIS are sticking around for the Unit and like every other show before House when you rock the boat and add new people you lose viewers.
Besides the typical viewer doesn't even know the strike is going on or won't care until new shows aren't on...
Carpoolers can thank cavemen for its bad rep. and awful ratings. In fact, anything that gets paired up with cavemen is going to suffer. I am shocked that abc has been so patient with this load of crap. I am sure that Geico doesnt even want these turkeys back after abc has made them look even more stupid than what they were before. I hope abc has something promising to fill this 8 o'clock hole. Hopefully they wise up and put Oprahs' reality shows on and soon!!!
