Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Yesterday’s Winners: America’s Next Top Model (CW), Criminal Minds (CBS), CSI: NY (CBS)
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS led the troops on this uneventful Wednesday, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Second overall was ABC, followed by Fox, deteriorating NBC and the CW.
There was nothing overly positive of note in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour, with ABC’s critically acclaimed Pushing Daisies leading at a below-average 8.88 million viewers and a 3.1 rating/9 share among adults 18-49. If that is the best any show can do in this time period, there is a definite opportunity for a new show to break-out here. As predicted, the novelty has quickly worn off Pushing Daisies.
Tied for second from 8-9 p.m. were CBS’ Kid Nation at 7.53 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49, and the Fox comedies -- Back to You (Viewers: #3, 7.30 million; A18-49: #2, 2.5/ 7) and ‘Til Death (Viewers: #3, 7.36 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7). Personally, I think ‘Til Death has completely found its stride this season. Don’t Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher remind you of Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton?
Capping off the 8 p.m. hour was NBC’s less-than-phenomenal Phenomenon (Viewers: #4, 6.16 million; A18-49: #5, 2.0/ 6), and America’s Next Top Model on the CW (Viewers: #5, 5.34 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.6/ 7). Compared to the year-ago telecast, Top Model was up by 630,000 viewers (4.71 to 5.34) and 18 percent among adults 18-49 (2.2/ 6 to 2.6/7). And that makes it a winner in Mr. TV’s book.
CBS moved into the 9-10 p.m. winner’s circle, care of Criminal Minds at a healthy 15.71 million viewers and a 4.3/11 among adults 18-49, inclining past ABC’s normally demographically dominant Private Practice (Viewers: #2, 11.45 million; A18-49: #2, 4.2/10) by two percent in the demo. Third in the hour was Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: 6.98 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8), which deserves accolades for building out of ‘Til Death by 19 percent in the demo, followed by NBC’s fading Bionic Woman (Viewers: 6.30 million; A18-49: 2.5/ 6), and the CW’s disappointing Gossip Girl (Viewers: 2.90 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4). Remember when I said Bionic Woman would only benefit by the early curiosity seekers, and then quickly fade out?
CBS’ established CSI: NY dominated at 10 p.m., with 13.04 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49. Next was ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money (Viewers: 8.10 million; A18-49: 2.9/ 8), followed by NBC’s Life (Viewers: 6.94 million; A18-49: 2.5/ 7).
Also some positive news for all the PD fans in this forum: this is the first time this new show numbers have increased from the previous week. And increased from 2.6 to 3.1 in the demo.

WOW! This is by far a season high for the show. It hasn't seen these numbers since the Superbowl airing. Perhpas that wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Nice to see Pushing Daisies INCREASE since it's last telecast. I just want to mention I know it was preempted in markets in Iowa for sure due to Iowa State basketball. Ditto for Private Practice which also saw nice week to week increases. Its too bad though that next week they'll only slip again because of the annual low rated Thanksgiving Eve. NBC continues to be a disaster zone on Wednesday with only Life showing any signs of life. Fox's shows have at least stabilized and I agree that Til Death was right on target last night. Back to You also had one of its better episodes. The real winner here though is Kitchen Nightmares which has managed to become a decent demo competitor.
PD grew in viewers - not as much as I was hoping, but atleast it grew. The demo increased by a whopping .5 though! (2.6 - 3.1), and it won its timeslot again!

Daisies: highest demo in three airings, up 300K from two weeks ago Gossip Girl: second-highest number ever if it holds, in both viewers and demo Life: two straight weeks of growth in viewers, first-ever build on Bionic in viewers, first-ever 100% demo retention from Bionic
Actually, it looks like quite a lot of stuff perked up this week. The FOX stuff was better than usual, Kid Nation and CM perked up, etc. But I'm happy that my three Wednesday faves all have something to cheer about.
Stick a fork in DSM, its done. Once finals are released, it should be under 8 million viewers for the night, a season/series low.
Unfortunately, because I adore the show, I must agree with this. No way ABC will keep the show if it dips below 8 million and doesn't even reach a 3.0 in the demo. They might switch at some point, and see how it does, but I am pretty much watching now waiting for the axe to fall.
