I'm sure Fox is wishing they could keep the thursday "mo" going in the fall. Not likely to happen with Greys, Survivor, Betty, NBC's comedies and CSI all in original runs, but they can at least dream.
What was FOX running at 8PM that beat BIG BROTHER (which by the way 6 Millions seems like good numbers when re-reuns of hit shows like DESPERATE HOUSE wives are only getting 3 million)?
Fox had a 30-minute 5th Grader at 8p, followed by Don't Forget the Lyrics at 8:30p.
Another strong performance by Lyrics, which is making me wonder if Fox, if the trends continue this summer, opts to cut 5th Grader by 30 minutes and do a 5th Grader/Lyrics block to counter Survivor, Ugly Betty and Earl/Office in the fall.
Is there something wrong with "Big Brother" this time out, more than usual at least? A 2.2 demo number for an elimination/head of household episode? That's really not good at all.

It looks like Fox’s “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” is the real deal, growing in both total viewers and the young adult demographic from its condensed “5TH Grader” lead-in. It also retained nearly all those viewers from Wednesday (8.159 million on Wed. vs. 8.139 last night).
If “Lyrics!” can maintain these levels, Fox may indeed shrink “5TH Grader” to a half-hour and have a “5TH Grader”/”Lyrics!” block on Thursdays in the fall.
Given the apparent success of “Lyrics!”, it will be interesting to see how NBC’s “Singing Bee” holds up in its second airing on Tuesday.
Another night of “Big Brother 8” and another troubling ratings result. BB8 seems to be trending downward this season. Here’s a look at its first full weeks worth of ratings:
I wasn’t too concerned about that low Sunday number since the Sunday airings were the lowest rated of the thrice-weekly series last summer. However, BB8 lost more than 1 million viewers from one week earlier last night. Also, just like on Tuesday, BB8 lost viewership during the hour, although not as steep as the approx. 500,000 who tuned out on Tuesday at the half-hour.
I’m not certain how last night’s ratings stack up against the same airing last year, but last Thursday’s and Sundays airing were pretty much on par. I’ll have a better picture when The Futon Critic updates there ratings later in the day.
As I’ve stated previously, my biggest complaint this season seems to be that it is boring with very little action happening. Just like the “X-Factor” season fizzled (in my opinion) as far as the twist was concerned, this seasons “Enemies” theme seems to have flopped – especially when one of those enemies has already been evicted. I hope the series can rebound, and also that the contestants will actually provide us with something entertaining to enjoy.
taylor, it's not a problem! i'm just trying to get it out really quickly in the morning and the report i get doesn't have an easy-to-copy-and-paste schedule.

It's still early in BB8, but I agree it has been a bit on the boring side.
I wouldn't be quick to dismiss the "enemies" gimmick as a failure though, even if one of the enemies tandems was broken up after just a week -- I could see a Dustin/Joe blowup coming up in the coming weeks, and I am curious as to where the Dick/Danielle relationship will end up (is it me, or does Dick look like Hal Sparks after a four-month stay in rehab?).
I've only watched the last three incarnations of BB, and the biggest problem I see with the show is that the contestants all seem the same to me. Same hairstyles, same age, same build, same tattoos. It's as if some store catalog came to life in a constructed-for-TV house.
That's probably why I was rooting for Chicken George in BB7 -- he was nothing like the rest of the housemates, and I wanted to him to go far to show that you don't need a certain look to succeed in the house. And he did just that.
I want to see variety in the Big Brother house. I want to see a 21-year-old clash with someone in their 50s or 60s over generational issues. I want to see a "bleeding heart" liberal and a "moral majority" conservative verbally duke it out. Eventually, the audience will tire of the same types of people that appear on this show.
Variety is the spice of life, but BB, at times, is the same flavor. Not giving up on the show, but it's starting to wear on me.
The Futon Critic has confirmed that BB8 continues to fall short compared to the numbers for last summers All-Star season. According to the website…
BB8 last night 4.2 / 8 rating; 2.2 adults 18-49
BB: All-Stars (July 13, 2007) 4.7 / 9; 2.6
That half-a-ratings-point drop isn’t as severe as the point-plus drop on Tuesday, but should still be concerning to CBS, especially if BB8 continues to slump.
My only problem with the argument that while BB8 could always rebound in excitement and action, if people have already tuned out due to boredom will they magically return? While most reality series tend to build over time instead of decline (typically like comedies and dramas), my concern is that by the time BB8 turns its corner (if it does), that viewers will have already left and moved on to other series, such as the Fox “5TH Grader”/”Lyrics!” combo.
Keep in mind that BB has been dropping for years. Economically, it is still a viable option for the summer.
