Too bad I had to watch illegally (oops) and not live due to the NY preemption. Frowner

30 Rock is still a strong performer (at least for now). It's drop isn't surprising considering the non-stop promotion for the season premiere and the Oprah episode. And isn't the show still holding onto a similar percentage of its Office lead-in?

NBC took a lot of heat for renewing 30 Rock, but the decision seems more than justified.

The WPIX screening 'Smallville' and 'Supernatural' on Saturday afternoon could help to increase the final "Live" rating in the Live+7 report to count those New York viewers who watch it live this Saturday.

Pisher, retaining 80-90% of the lead-in is not significantly worse.

It's worse, and that's significant, because it was a perfectly ordinary ep of The Office (below average, actually), and yet another 'very special' ep of 30 Rock.

What happens when the hype dies down? You'll start talking about how retaining 55% of the lead-in is really good, is what happens. Big Grin

If that is the case, a number of shows are doing horribly.

Are you even paying attention to any other show we discuss on this forum? Confused

Hopefully, this show will be canceled soon so that you all can find something else to hate.

Hopefully you'll wake up and realize it's nothing personal. We're just telling the truth, and you call it hate.

The promotion still hasn't stopped, and neither has the pointless stunt-casting.

Only because The Office is dropping too--and while there are a number of reasons for that, one of them is certainly that 30 Rock is dragging it down. It is the weakest link--but we're still a ways off from goodbye.

And equally as relevant is that the lead-in numbers were also down each week.

One Year Ago (11/15/07)
30 Rock (Viewers: #4: 6.47 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 8)

Even more relevant numbers for 30 Rock: (Fall 2008)
10/30/08(SP) 8.66 M 4.1/10
11/06/08 8.07 M 3.9/9
11/13/08 7.50 M (est) 3.6/8 (est)

Plus, last year, that was like the 7the episode of the season. This year its only the 3rd. 30 Rock usually loses viewers as the season progresses.

I remember the days when "ER" with Anthony Edwards used to get a 40 share. I remember it like it was 1879 yesterdays ago.

I mean, really, they get all those cast members back, and that's the best it can do? A second place finish in households? How far NBC has fallen.

Speaking of the show that finished first in households, it's been picked up for the season but I guess no one cares. Since they're working on episode 11, I thought that was fitting.

"Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

If anything, Kath & Kim is what's dragging The Office down. Last year at this time, Scrubs was in the post-Office timeslot, and its poor retention didn't hurt ratings for The Office.

Thursday, November 15, 2007 -- The Office (Viewers: #3, 8.86 million; A18-49: #3, 4.8/11) and Scrubs (Viewers: #3, 6.04 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 7).

The ABC affiliate did have the game, just don't know if/when they aired the ABC shows.

TV-aholic: to answer your question -- the Boston affiliate aired "Grey's Anatomy" immediately following "Jimmy Kimmel" last night (so...1:05AM?) "Life on Mars" airs tonight, following "Jimmy Kimmel."

It is a losing battle wiseguy. Marc will continue to write his bias column making it like NBC is in such horrible position (while they might be with viewers but we all know that 18-49 is where it counts) and then ignore the forum for the most part all day, and tvaholic will continue to spread bogus negative spin about NBC. The fact of the matter is that 30 Rock is up nicely from last year and while it has gone down each week from its debut this year so has its lead in. And this comes from someone who has never watched 30 Rock.

As you say wiseguy, it would just be nice to have balanced reporting.

Thanks for the Info!

So UB and LOM should see big drops and GA's drop should not be so big, come finals.

And it didn't cost NBC half as much money, time and trouble as 30 Rock.

But don't get me wrong.

Kath & Kim and Scrubs are awful shows too.

I fully agree that if 30 Rock can stay at its current levels, it's bound to come back for another season.

But how much longer can NBC keep the hype machine going? How much longer will the election-buzz around Fey hold people's interest? How much longer can people stand to watch this tepid unfunny cliche-fest?

For these and the answers to many other questions, stay tuned.

1) So, it sounds like from your bias opinion, that NBC has quite a few shows that are declining over the last few weeks. Not bad for a netwrok that you think is in good shape.

2) I have watched 30 Rock. On the recomendation of X. One of the worse 40 minutes I ever spent watching TV. Only Worst Weeks and Viva Laughlin have been worse, IMO.

Believe me, come 2009, 30 Rock will be lucky to get over 6 million and a 3 demo rating. Just like Earl, Kath & Kim, Knight Rider, Life, Lipstick Jungle, Deal or No Deal, Crusoe, Chuck and My Own Worst Enemy.

Whether you want to criticize or praise 30 Rock's performance (and there's evidence on either side of that tiresome debate), at least have your arguements make sense. To say that people are avoiding watching The Office because 30 Rock follows it makes zero sense. Thats a stretch even for Pisher.
