-Adults 18-49: ABC: 5.0 rating/13 share, NBC: 4.6/12, CBS and Fox: 3.2/ 8 each, CW: 0.4/ 1
----------
-Yesterday’s Winners: 60 Minutes (CBS), Sunday Night Football (NBC), Desperate Housewives (ABC)
-Respectable Sampling: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC), Cold Case (CBS), The Simpsons (Fox), Family Guy (Fox), Brothers & Sisters (ABC), Shark (CBS)
Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 8.54 percent during premiere week in 2006 to 19.43 million percent at present, the overall results have been negatively impacted.
---------------
-Ratings Breakdown: ABC finished first in both total viewers and adults 18-49 on this initial Sunday of the 2007-08 season. But, comparably, its lead over the No. 2 network (CBS in total viewers, NBC among adults 18-49) was slim, and ABC was down from the first Sunday in 2006-07 by a hefty 2.89 million viewers and 22 percent in the demo. If there is one observation worth noting in premiere week, it is the rising impact of DVR usage. It has taken a negative toll on all the networks.
A two-hour edition of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition began season five with 11.67 million viewers and a 3.8/11 among adults 18-49 from 7-9 p.m., building in each half-hour as follows:
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition 7:00 p.m. Viewers: 8.70 million (#2), A18-49: 2.6/ 8 (#2) 7:30 p.m. Viewers: 10.00 million (#2), A18-49: 3.2/ 9 (#1t) 8:00 p.m. Viewers: 12.32 million (#2), A18-49: 3.9/10 (#3) 8:30 p.m. Viewers: 15.65 million (#1), A18-49: 5.4/13 (#2)
Compared to its also two-hour season-premiere on year-ago opening Sunday (Viewers: 13.60 million; A18-49: 5.0/13 on Sept. 24, 2006), that was a decrease of 1.93 million viewers and 24 percent among adults 18-49. The fourth-season premiere of lead-out Desperate Housewives perked up to a dominant 18.98 million viewers and a 7.4/17 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m., but one year earlier the residents on Wisteria Lane kicked-off with a much heftier 24.09 million viewers and a 9.6/21 in the demo. While this is still certainly solid, year-to-year that was a decline of 5.11 million viewers and 23 percent in the demo.
The second season-premiere of must see ABC drama Brothers & Sisters was first in total viewers (13.26 million viewers) and second among adults 18-49, with a 5.1/13. Compared to its series debut (Viewers: 15.69 million; A18-49: 6.0/15 on Sept. 24, 2004) that was a loss 2.43 million viewers and 15 percent in the demo. But retention for Brothers & Sisters out of Desperate Housewives was stronger at 70 percent in viewers and 69 percent among adults 18-49.
CBS kicked-off Sunday on a winning note, with an approximate half-hour football overrun at a dominant 17.34 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/17 share among adults 18-49 in the 7 p.m. half-hour. That led into an expanded edition of veteran 60 Minutes at an estimated 12.81 million viewers and a 2.8/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 7:30-9 p.m., followed by Cold Case (Viewers: #3, 13.56 million; A18-49: #4, 3.4/ 8) and Shark (Viewers: #3, 11.43 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7) from 9-11 p.m. While Shark cannot compare to former occupant Without a Trace, retention out of Cold Case of 84 percent in total viewers and 79 percent in the demo makes it a compatible fit. As a reminder, all results for CBS are approximate.
The Philadelphia versus New York Giants match-up on Sunday Night Football kept NBC in the mix, at an estimated 13.32 million viewers and a 5.6/ 14 from 8:30-11 p.m. Results for any live sporting event, of course, are always approximate. Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America at 6.50 million viewers (#3) and a 2.3/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 7-8 p.m.
Over at Fox, and without a football overrun, the network dipped considerably with its combination two repeat episodes of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.45 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 2.0/ 6 from 7-8 p.m.), the regularly scheduled edition of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, 8.42 million; A18-49: #2, 4.2/11), King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 7.20 million; A18-49: #3, 3.5/ 9), Family Guy (Viewers: #4, 7.95 million; A18-49: #3, 4.2/10), and the season-premiere of American Dad (Viewers: #4, 6.03 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 7). Retention for American Dad out of Family Guy was acceptable at 76 percent in viewers and 74 percent in the demo
Last, and extremely least, was the CW’s line-up of CW Now (Viewers: 780,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), Online Nation (Viewers: 698,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), a repeat of Gossip Girl (Viewers: 751,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.11 million; A18-49: 0.5/ 1). While I can certainly understand the lack of interest in Online Nation, CW Now is a trendy and flashy newsmagazine worth watching. Historically, this could very well be the lowest rated Sunday overall in both the CW and former network the WB’s history.

The second game of the 2007-08 fall season of the P.I. Feedback Challenge has just premiered online! You have until Tuesday, October 2nd at 7:59am eastern time to play!
You think right now the CW execs wish they wouldn't have canceled Reba? For being in the Sunday 7/6c timeslot briefly last season, it did monumentally well than its current timeslot occupants, CW Now and Online Nation.
Therefore, CW, I believe you hit a Whammy 2 Sundays in a row!
Uggh! Uggh! ... not again!

The first two episodes of SHark have been strong and Kevin Pollack is the Best on this show. Once they see the chemistry with KP, hell be in more & More episodes as the season progresses.
The new DA is a step up from the old "Ken Doll" da from last season. But, right now, "Barbie" is lost in the background.

Disapponting for Shark. I wasn't too impressed with WAT's numbers on Thursday, and these aren't impressive either. Bad scheduling move by CBS.
I agree the eps have been strong, creatively speaking.

ABC did well. 19 million for DH is not bad at all. Especially with the buzz surronding the show almost absent. More buzz had B&S so the numbers are not that impressive I'm still surprised with the low numbers for Cold Case and Shark, no PBS excuse this week. Shark will be gone after this season, i'm afraid it will end up with Close To Home numbers but on a much better night than C2H had CW..........well a disaster
These numbers are much better then I thought DH would get. Is it me how funny things change? Last season everyone and their mother was raving about Grey's Anatomy and said DH was sucky. Now I am reading the opposite. People thinking DH is on a major upswing. Nice to see that in it's fourth season. DH will never reach season 1 heights but how fun was it last night. Dana Delaney is a hoot as the total bitch Katherine. Felicity Huffman rocked her cancer storyline. Saw major sparks with Susan/The Doc. I love seeing more Edie, Nicolette is the bomb. It was a breath of fresh air and total fun. Also Brothers &Sisters did very well last night and Sally Field is a master class of her own. She just rocks anything she is in. I am glad ABC kept B&S on Sunday's to let it grow more then just moving it and putting a new show on. This gives B&S an even better chance to solidify itself more. It is amazing how it went from such a troubled show to a very good show. Loved the ABC Sunday combo. B&S did not do bad at all. It was in first place, had better retention then last year and strong demo.
Cold Case is always a strong show for CBS. It is a down a bit but still solid. Never going to be a monster but very solid. Love Kathryn Morris and find how underated she is. Shark had good retention. It is down from Trace. Actually the switch was a good idea because Trace is doing better then Shark on Thursday's. That means more advertising dollars. I do not think CBS thought Shark would match those numbers. It had a CSI lead-in. It still is solid business.

I hope DH can perk up to 20 million again. Last night's premiere - save for the aweful Edie storyline - was absolutely fantastic... and very much worth calling "must see" again!
And B&S'premiere even raised the bar! Those 2 hours flew by for me...I so drawn into the stories. It's only week 1 and I would say that last night's season premiere would be an episode for Sally Field to consider submitting for an Emmy nom again...that is, unless next week's is even more emotional.

I think this could be the case. With the (reportedly) high budget, a 2.7 A 18-49 doesn't look very good.
I think SHARK is clearly proven now to be a show that could never stand on its own in a 9PM slot and most certainly could never pull decent ratings in the 8PM hour.
Marc-Kind of out of left field here but by any chance do you know if the available ratings info on the STEVE WILKOS show has it doing good in syndication. I kind of hope so since it's a pretty good talk show.
Yeah, those are still the highest DH numbers since what, February? It at least matched last season's finale (18.82 million viewers). Better still though, B&S is up 950,000 viewers from last season's finale and 13% in the demo. I guess Sally's Emmy acceptance speech helped.
