The difference is that people actually watched DH the 1st time around. So you would not expect them to watch again. No one watched Jericho the 1st time around. So CBS should not be happy with 3.5 million for a repeat.
I still don't get why CBS brought back Jericho. And then they have the nerve to tell people who campaigned to bring the show back that "it is up to them to recruit new viewers". I mean, please. Isnt it up to the CBS marketing department to recruit new viewers?

CBS - 3,583 million viewers, 2.4 / 5 HH, 0.9 / 3 A18-49
Jericho is doing fine and this is what CBS expected. Lost normally got under 4 million viewers in repeats. This is 1/3 the first run rate. There's a reason serialized shows are not repeated. They don't do well. Jericho is getting a higher ratio of repeat to first run viewers that Lost. Lost got under 4 million, and that was not during summer. CBS knew they woould take a hit with ratings by doing this, but they are trying to promote the show. Anyone who thinks CBS is not doing right by Jericho obviously doesn't know anything about how TV works. They're running tons of ads for it and they are taking big ratings losses to do it.
Jericho was the second highest rated CBS show online. It's not that it isn't popular. It's that people who are smart enough to watch it know how to use the Internet or at the very least how to work a VCR... Seriously, why does anyone watch live TV? Do you not mind wasting 15 minutes an hour watching commercials??

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we all don't sit there and watch the commercials. It's a chance, for me at least, to get up and fix something, get a drink of water...etc.
So no, no time wasted.

Yeah, I do that too. But I don't need to get up every 10 minutes. And what happens if you get a phone call? You just don't care if you miss the end of shows? You don't care if you miss 15 minutes of a show now and then?
Most people I know do watch live TV only and don't bother recording anything There is something kind of special about watching live TV. Before we had a VCR when I was a kid, you had to watch everything live. There's something kind of special about that because you have to be there and it's an event. You can't "wear out" the shows you like by watching them too often.
But the point still stands that you can't judge a show's quality or how much people like it by it's viewer numbers. I might turn on National Bingo Night for a few minutes instead of Jericho if I was doing other things and wasn't paying attention to the TV. I would never actually pay to see Bingo though.
I don't think the Jericho repeats are doing poorly. For a show that was getting 7-8 million viewers a week for these episodes originally them nearing 4 million is something. You would think there would be less people to watch the repeats but no.

CBS merely brought it back to appease a few vocal fans. They only brought it back for 8 eps so when it doesn't grow at all this time around they can say "You can't expect us to keep bringing it back". This revival is nothing more than CBS saving face...I don't think they really expect Jericho to substantially gain viewers next season.
This new-found Friday night dominance must be all that much sweeter to Ms. Ostroff given that WWE Smackdown is one of the UPN series carried forward in the merger of the two networks.
