I thoroughly enjoyed 'Glee' as well, and am very impressed with its opening A18-49 number. With numbers like that, it could have a 'Fame'-like run ahead of it.
I hope FOX's success with 'Glee' inspires the broadcasters to look into developing a few more musical-drama or musical-comedy series to brighten the television landscape.
The season premiere of 'Glee' absolutely commands in the A18-49s, thoroughly trouncing 'Wipeout', 'America's Got Talent' and 'America's Next Top Model'.
Thankfully Glee it's not a musical, it's a drama with a lot of good music in it. Make it a musical and i'm out.
I agree with you robert. They've got a great mix so far. Hourlong dramedy with musical elements. I can tell you this much, its the type of show that seems like it will hit with that elusive 18-34 crowd.

It will be interesting to see how the Glee offerings perform on itunes/etc... in the coming weeks. Can FOX find another show, like American Idol, that can create a secondary revenue stream through music sales?
Bit of TV News Today: John Stossell is leaving ABC News-20/20 to go to Fox News-Fox Business. With Elizabeth Vargas a heavily regarded option for GMA, I'd say 20/20 could be looking for 2 anchors here soon. My advice- make Elizabeth and Diane do both GMA/World News and 20/20. Cost cut and keep the stars visible. I would also consider adding a full time male co-anchor for Robin and presumably Elizabeth on GMA in addition to news guy Chris Cuomo.

Reminds me of the good OTH years. Of course OTH was a more dramatic show, but it had a lot of great music as well. I like the combination

I agree. Tree Hill music was great until that Kate Vogel or whatever her name is showed up and she became the only musical act on the show. They introduced masses to a lot of great alternative acts like Anberlin.

That's pretty low. The re-airing of the pilot got like 4.5 million viewers. That's only 3 million extra viewers that tuned in. That's pretty bad, isn't it?
I'm confused.
Join the club. But honestly, this doesn't tell us much of anything. Let's see how it does against its regular timeslot competition. FOX seems to like it, and has promoted it heavily, so it should have some time.
But what it will also have is no excuses if it fails to perform. Put up or shut up. And the way these people sing, I'm opting for the latter.
I think Chris Cuomo will replace Diane on GMA. Do they really need 2 anchors for 20/20?

I hope that is true, which means FOX will cancel it and it will go into syndication, which meeans Saturday night broadcasts.

Oh God, lets hope not. The last thing we need is "High School Musical: The Series" on ABC, or "Broadway Gossip Girl" on the CW.

You're right that the regular competition will tell the whole story. I'm sure it will drop some by then and probably after that, but it won't take that much to survive this fall on Fox. With Friday looking at record low failure, Fringe losing audience in the move to Thursday, Dance starting out (and likely staying much lower rated than summer numbers), and House on the decline, what does this network have to highlight? Oh right, the NFL fueled Simpsons ratings.

Good thing for Glee that music is only about 30% of the show with humor being nearly the entire other 70%.

Glee scored a 3.6 demo among 18-34 year olds, building off of its 3.3 from behind American Idol. SYTYCD scored a 3.1 demo among 18-34 year olds last night.

Hey, look at Dollhouse--sometimes it doesn't take ANYTHING to survive on FOX. But they're expecting a lot more from Glee.

Sneer all you like at The Simpsons. They'll still outlive you.
