Same slippage in demos but BL closes the gap in total viewers in the last half hour. I'd be willing to bet BL at least ties in the demo and beats Cane in total views next week when it's back to its 10:00 start time. Last night's episode was great. I feel a little better now after seeing the breakdowns.

Biggest Loser will still be up again DwtS. Worse yet, it will be offset at a weird time with Singing Bee opening the night and Biggest Loser following it for 90 minutes.
Maybe B&tG can pull in extra viewers when it goes against Singing Bee instead of Biggest Loser at the start?
If nothing else, all the networks should get a lift in the 8pm hour from ABC running dead air rather than Dancing.
Rethink the hours it's programming... it clearly can't do anything on Sunday (seriously, how low will Life Is Wild's premiere be!?)
Rethink its target audience and branding... with the exception of America's Next Top Model, CW doesn't really hit the 18-34 demographic that hard. Maybe declare teenagers the target and try and rekindle that old WB magic from the Buffy/Dawson/Felicity era. Or go the other way and age a bit, become more old-school FOX like. Edgy shows with a broad appeal.
Rethink its development... none of the shows, however well received (or not) by critics, have truly succeeded. This was the season critics were saying CW was going to breakthrough, thanks to "potential breakouts" like Gossip Girl and Reaper. CW's two shining gems' well-promoted premieres couldn't even muster, combined, 7 million viewers.
I won't go so far as to say gut the executives... but I'm sure some would! Okay, maybe Dawn needs to go...

It's (well past) time to rethink The CW.

Maybe drama/comedies are not my thing. I mean it was not bad at all. I found the pilot to be better than Gossip Girl, so I think that is saying something. But I do not know if I will be watching next week.
Still, being aggressive didn't help The CW at all...they might end up much worse than last season with all those old UPN and WB shows.
Oh absolutely. This season will be interesting.
Peace!!

And to add to that...BL began at 9:30, while Cane was able to debut at 10 without something like House and without starting mid-way through the hour. So, while BL numbers are not great, they could have been worse in this situation.
All the shows I used to watch on the WB and UPN are no longer on the CW anymore. At this point, I'm ready to just say that the CW itself needs to go...

Me too! It will be interesting to see numbers after DVR viewings are counted. I'd expect more 18-34 use the DVR, plus the first half hour was up against House so I'm sure many people DVR'd the whole episode. I believe it ranks pretty high in DVR recording anyway. Top 10 I think.

Last night's BL certainly had a bit of a different feel to it with the cast alterations. The opening credits almost seemed like a different series altogether, save for the theme song...which has been stuck in my head all morning!

And from this we can extrapolate 10.5 million, 2.8 demo in the 9:30 hour.
So it's losing less than 2% viewers, but well over 5% demo each half hour. I still think the House overlap meant that this one got heavily DVR'd, and it'll look better demo-wise next week.

Hmmm interesting things going on. 1) Cane like most CBS stuff skewed old thanks to the lead in. Next week will be crucial, but decent start. Still not what it should be given promotion though. 2) Boston Legal was a bit alarming, but it did similar last year behind Dancing. For BL, its all about the upper income demos. Once Cashmere Mafia becomes the lead in and BL starts growing out of the lead in, I'd say it will once again look like an unsung hero (ala Tuesdays last winter). 3) Solid debut for Reaper. The fact that it grew out of the lead in and was within a million of over-hyped Gossip Girl is certainly something to crow about. I'd say it will stay solid throughout the year. Next week it may do even better because Dancing will be away from B&tG. Speaking of B&tG, not terrible results, but could be and likely will be better by the end of the season. 4) The Biggest Loser should've stayed an 8 to 9:30 show. That way 60 of the 90 minutes would've been away from Dancing. I'm guessing NBC felt it could hold up better opposite Dancing than the SinkingSinging Bee could.
