What happened to Must See TV Thursdays on NBC? Oh Yeah! viewers flocked to ABC and CBS because of unwatchable comedies and now their migrating over to FOX.
Let me start off by saying that last night's ratings have sealed the nail in the coffin for most of the show's reputations at this point. With CBS being absent last night from original programming we got to see how these Thursday shows really perform.
America's Most Watched Network CBS since 1998, which is the future home of the NCIS spin-off with LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell got original like ratings from its shows. BBT & HIMYM continue to prove why they've become the best comedy tandem since 2005. When you beat down a set of original comedies on NBC and you're the repeat that is pretty damn embarrassing. Sometimes it makes me think if CBS should setup a nice comedy hour next season at 8pm, but they don't need to. BBT & HIMYM should be together from here on out, but it will be totally interesting to see if BBT can build on Men's lead-in this Monday becoming CBS' answer after Men leaves the air in the future.
CSI: has totally put its foot down as a powerhouse in original ratings and in replay ratings. 11 million viewers! OUCH for the rest of the shows. With Laurence Fishburne leading this show now, this show will still be the most watched scripted show on all of television. 11th Hour's replay ratings have been more impressive all season than their original ratings. I think 11th Hour has an audience and a move to another night would be a good option maybe rebuilding Saturday Nights?
ABC had an amazing night with the medical tandem GA and PP. Grey's is no longer TV's #1 medical show that goes to House. GA seems to be staying around that 15 million viewers mark right now still posting up great demos. CSI: has clearly won this battle. PP got a huge boost and it was needed. It took 3 years to figure out what fits behind Grey's and they finally found their answer and they should leave PP there permanently since GA is not the power player that it once was. PP has been good all season long and these ratings were well overdue even with the crossover terms. PP was a standout on Wednesday Nights and is now proving that right now on Thursday Nights against fellow medical drama ER.
The dud of the evening besides NBC's whole lineup was Ugly Betty. This show is pretty much over at this point and if wasn't for syndication purposes this show would not be back next season. UB is the type of show that shouldn't be skewing that old and I knew back in '06 that this show wasn't a long-term option. Hopefully ABC installs a comedy hour here with Surviving Suburbia in the future leading into Grey's. In the Motherhood and SW aren't going to be doing much better there. Salma Hayek, FOX called and they want you! LOL!
America's Second Most Watched Network FOX has Bones, which is TV's most solid ratings player outside of CBS. Bones is just one of these shows as mentioned before it moves and performs big time major league ratings. It has now controlled Thursday Nights at 8pm getting a lot of that CBS procedural audience. Bones is no longer a FOX show its now a show in its own league. I wouldn't be surprised next week if Survivor on CBS posts its lowest season premiere ratings to date as the hour will be very close and interesting with Survivor winning in the demo and the total viewers changing each week.
Hell's Kitchen on the other is a show on its way to beating The Office soon and is a demo player, but not a viewer show. I think FOX should keep an option open if Dollhouse runs the table on Friday Nights for a temporary boost out of Bones. We all know that's simply not going to happen BlueLick!
BlueLick's Burn
NBC I'll post this scary ass picture of 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord at the Super Bowl since the SB is the last time you'll see ratings higher than 20 million viewers until either next football season or the Winter Olympics.
AnnaLynne McCord (90210, CBS/CW)
Now we get to the embarrassment that is NBC. I am now going to hurt some people's feelings right now who are fans of The Office and other NBC comedies. People who have been reading my ratings columns know that my burns are ugly, so you may not want to read this. You have been warned! Let me start off with the terrible 8pm hour. As mentioned before when you're getting beaten by barely promoted repeats of BBT & HIMYM you should be embarrassed. Earl is the most likable show for casual viewers, but its only living on its syndication purposes. K&K needs to get replaced effective immediately. Nothing else to say right now.
Now for The Office, NBC you wasted your goddamn Super Bowl spot for what a show that was never a hit and will never be a hit. All the buzz and opportunities for this show to reach 15-20 million viewers in its tenure and still doesn't perform. You had 101 million viewers out of the Super Bowl to capitalize on and you fuckin' failed when Chuck, Heroes, Medium, Life, Friday Night Lights, Knight Rider, new shows like Kings or the soon to be procedural hit Southland, or any new show like a multi-cam would've easily scored better. CSI: was not even new last night and your ass almost got beat by a major league food network show. The Office you have been a disgraced to all those greats on Thursday Night's Must See TV lineup of shows like Cosby, Family Ties, Cheers, Different World, Seinfeld, Fraiser, Friends, Will & Grace, and many other players. The truth is The Office isn't doing that much better than Joey was on NBC and would've been a better option out of the Super Bowl. NBC wake the hell up you are a fourth place network and you had the most coveted lead-in spot of the year and you're not getting another one until 2012. NBC you should be rebuilding and instead your still going backwards and dropping the ball. 30 Rock is not even worth talking about right now.
The traditional multi-cams have proven to be worthy if their good and NBC should be going back to them, but their simply not. ER was the only good thing about NBC the whole night and the bad lead in and going up against the hot medical show has produced bad ratings for them right now. ER was emotional and if NBC doesn't get a hit out of Kings and Southland then this network is in serious trouble of possibly going out of business down the road, which is the sad news. That was my burn and the damn truth.
The CW still exists?
The CW is another network that should be shut down instead of making plans for the next Twilight or Moonlight. Thursdays is the only thing worth talking about and its amazing how compatible Supernatural has become out of Smallville. The CW Thursday is the only good thing since Smackdown! left to rising MNTV. Again if SV and SN weren't on The CW then they would really be getting 6-7 million viewers that's how strong they are.
Look for Supernatural star Jared Padalecki in Friday the 13th next Friday in theaters!
Burn Notice is a gem there on Thursday Nights and USA has something special when it scores over 5 million viewers every time.

Too bad, UB could not get pulled into it.
This is the biggest crossover since the Angels found themselves on the Love Boat.
I could swear the magazine that the GA cast was reading with the sexual positions was MODE magazine.

Alias and Grey's Anatomy were both shows that saw bumps up from their season averages after the Superbowl episodes... but those ratings did not last for either show for very long. Alias in particular dipped considerably the following year. Grey's remained dominant until season 4 came along.
NBC would have been smarter to air a half hour OFFICE followed by a new comedy (which they don't have...) or 30 Rock.
BTW, I think 30 Rock is not funny, but it would have given it more exposure at least. It seemed like a waste to use a 1-hour Office.
The other option would have been MEDIUM, but NBC has never seemed to care much about that show.
Heroes, Chuck, Life, FNL, none of those are suitable for the post super-bowl slot. They did make the best choice out of what they had available... I guess. It just wasn't gonna pay off like they were hoping.

I agree. Oh, dear. It looks like "The Office" finished in 30-somethingth place for the week. After NBC wasted the post-Super Bowl slot on it. How incredibly disappointing. Maybe they should cancel it. Right, Douglas?
-- "Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

Yea, its always close between the to nets. What may be key for CBS is that 11H will be stronger against PP than UB will be against Surivior
Perhaps you're right but I think 11th Hour's demo is nothing to brag about given its lead in. It may cost CBS the night. Of course, the same could be said about Betty.
I agree. 11H may be a 1 season and done series. It is more competitive to PP than UB is to Survivor.
FOX proved that setup does not work. The Family guy premiered Super Bowl night, after a Simpsons episode and the second show had awful ratings.
If NBC had done that is year, you would have had the 23 million for the office, then about 15 million for 30 rock, at best.

I'm surprised no one's really talked about the fact that FOX has FINALLY found a Thursday line-up with well-established shows (vs. Thursday game-show flameouts) that have finally made them competitive.

No question. Hell's Kitchen is certainly putting a hurtin' on my favorite NBC comedy hour at 9 p.m.

People didn't know that though, ABC pulled a fast one with the commercials. Right now for the next few weeks it's not GA and Private Practice.
It's 2 hours of GA.
From last weeks Private Practice numbers with no new GA to this week with a crossover was a big difference. Question is, what happens when it's over? If ratings for PrivatePractice goes right back to where it was, then what?

That is, indeed, the question. If PP can start getting above the mid-3s it's been pulling post-GA (or even squeeze out a 4), then the crossover is a giant, giant success. Otherwise... just a stunt and ABC will have to deal with losing 1/3 of the GA lead-in (which they seem to be fine with on Sundays with DH/B&S).
