-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC led this third Monday of January, beating the No. 2 network (CBS in total viewers, Fox among adults 18-49) by an average 2.15 million viewers and 21 percent among adults 18-49. ABC, which has collapsed on the second half of the evening, was fourth overall, followed by the CW. With the writers strike still in full bloom, CBS and the CW aired all repeats.
NBC’s American Gladiators opened the evening on a winning note, with a healthy 10.08 million viewers and a 4.3 rating/11 share from 8-9 p.m. That led into Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #1, 14.13 million; A18-49: #1, 4.4/10 at 9 p.m.), which cannot seem to find a million dollar winner no matter how hard it tries to stack the odds, followed by Medium (Viewers: #2, 10.07 million; A18-49: #1, 3.4/ 9 at 10 p.m.), which benefited opposite a repeat of CBS’ CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 10.38 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 8). Retention for Medium out of the second half of Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #1, 15.48 million; A18-49: #1, 4.7/11) of a disappointing 65 percent in viewers and 72 percent among adults 18-49 keeps it off the listing of winners.
ABC’s 90-minute Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann has kept the time period for Dancing With the Stars relatively warm, with 9.86 million viewers and a 2.6/ 6 in the demo from 8-9:30 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.91 million (#1), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3t)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.18 million (#2), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#4)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.41 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#4)
While I personally did not expect Dance War to garner the same attention as parent series Dancing With the Stars, did anyone expect it to be so dull? Next on ABC was dying sitcom Notes From the Underbelly (Viewers:#4, 4.68 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 4 at 9:30 p.m.), followed by the equally struggling October Road, with a last-place 4.95 million viewers and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.
CBS aired repeats of sitcoms How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #4, 7.13 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.5/ 6), The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #4, 7.75 million; A18-49: #3, 2.9/ 7), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 11.53 million; A18-49: #1t, 4.0/ 9) and Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #3, 8.50 million; A18-49: #3, 3.1/ 7) from 8-10 p.m., followed by the aforementioned CSI: Miami encore (Viewers: #1, 10.38 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 8) Fans of The New Adventures of Old Christine, take note: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and company will be back on Monday, Feb. 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Over at Fox, the second Monday telecast (and third episode overall) of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles scored a respectable 8.65 million viewers (#3) and a 3.6/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#2t) from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that built from lead-in Prison Break (Viewers: #3, 7.81 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 8 at 8 p.m.) by 840,000 viewers and 16 percent among adults 18-49. While Sarah Connor is not as strong as former occupant 24, it is still worth positively noting at this point.
Capping off the evening were repeats of the CW’s Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.32 million, A18-49: 0.9/ 2), Aliens in America (Viewers: 1.40 million, A18-49: 0.5/ 1), Girlfriends (Viewers: 1.37 million, A18-49: 0.6/ 1) and The Game (Viewers: 1.66 million, A18-49: 0.7/ 2), which ranked last in every half hour.
