Saturday 9/12/09

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 5.32 million, NBC: 5.05, Fox: 4.93, CBS: 2.49

-Adults 18-49:
ABC and Fox: 1.6 rating/5 share each, NBC: 1.1/ 4, CBS: 0.7/ 2

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 20 percent at this same point last year to approximately 28 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Saturday’s Winners:
Nothing…there is rarely anything positive to ever say about Saturday other than the ongoing consistency of Fox’s Cops and America’s Most Wanted, which opened their new seasons.

-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
U.S. Open: Women’s Final 2009 (CBS)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC was the most-watched network on this sports populated Saturday, beating second-place NBC by 270,000 viewers. In the competitive No. 3 spot was Fox, followed by distant CBS, home of The US Open. ABC and Fox tried for first among adults 18-49, each with a modest 1.6 rating/5 share in the demo. Next was NBC followed by lackluster CBS,

In the battle of the three-hour sporting events, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on ABC averaged 5.32 million viewers with an aforementioned 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (ABC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.63 million (#1), A18-49: 1.7/ 6 (#1)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.38 million (#1), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#1)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.34 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#1)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.36 million (#3), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#2)

10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.03 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#1)

The U.S. Open: Women’s Final 2009 on CBS paled in comparison, with just 2.49 million viewers and a 0.7/ 2 in the demo for the night. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:

U.S. Open: Women’s Final 2009 (CBS)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 1.93 million (#4), A18-49: 0.5/ 2 (#4)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 1.89 million (#4), A18-49: 0.5/ 2 (#4)

10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 3.86 million (#3), A18-49: 1.1/ 3 (#3)

Elsewhere, Fox opened up new seasons of the perennial combination of Cops and America’s Most Wanted and they remained durable (albeit non-spectacular) Saturday performers. Take a look:

Saturday (Fox)

NBC capped off the evening with repeats of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #3, 3.99 million; A18-49: #3, 0.8/ 3), Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 5.31 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #1, 5.86 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5).

I'm guessing this is the last time we're going to see US Open Women's Final on CBS. Those ratings are very low.

Interesting that Cops had a huge jump at 8:30. Perhaps FOX should find another half hour to go with Cops.

There was no women's final last night. The tournament had been rained out for the last two days. They finally did get the semi-final matches going just before 10 pm, which is why the last hour jumps up in the ratings, and it looks like many of them came from the Nascar race.

It was a wild night for sports fans. At 10 pm I was trying to watch the Serena Williams/Kim Clijsters match, the 4th quarter of USC/Ohio St. game and the last 20 laps of the Nascar race which would decide who made the chase.

No final last night, and the semifinal kicked off around 10pm so the numbers are misleading

Okay, so I thought I'd finally bring this up today for the first time:

We're launching a new game here at PIFeedback, which we're titling the PIF Network Game 2009. It involves 3 networks run by members here who put together a schedule of original shows that you guys will be able to vote on.

To play, voting will be held from 11am-11pm beginning next Monday, the 21st (the official start of the game). Throughout the day, you can go and vote for which series you'd want to watch in each timeslot. Episode descriptions, show descriptions, and even scripts will be included for you to read in order to make your choice easier. And, it's a daily game, so you can vote each day of the week, anytime you'd like. Ratings for all the shows will be posted the following morning, just as Marc does it.

We're holding upfronts today for those interesting in checking out the action. There will be upfronts throughout the day from all 3 networks. As of now, no schedules have been posted, but expect schedules, a list of shows, teasers, and other things listed for each network.

It should be fun, and we're hoping to get it off to a great start. Voting is open to anyone here and will take place here as well, while upfronts are being held at pifnetworks.com.

You can go there, register (if you haven't already), and make a comment on each network's schedules or talk about which shows you'll be interested in watching. Let's have fun with this!

And, on a side note, if you still need to get your episodes in (I won't list names, you all know who you are) that deadline is going to be next Saturday, as the game starts next Monday.

Hopefully we'll see a lot of participation in this! We're excited to launch next week, and hopefully the game will go over well with everyone here!

You would have to think ABC would have done better with the USC-Ohio State football game. It will be interesting to see how many were watching it on ESPN.

First, its not like ABC can just decide what they want to air, when it comes to these sports entities.

Secons, for Disney, it was a win-win. They got the most out of BOTH events between NASCAR and the Football game. ANYONE who cares about NCAA Football, will have cable and will watch ESPN air it.
