3. The Mentalist is clearly not a hit and people need to stop calling it such. It may be the biggest hit of this season, but that just goes as proof that this season has been an overall failure. TM will keep pulling in the elderly CBS crowd and be a perfect fit for them on Tuesdays, but it isn't going to 'breal out' when no one else wants to sample it...or they did sample it and rejected the smarmy Bush impersonator.
Have you become the new pisher? You must be joking, cause i doubt you can say such stupid things being serious. TM is not a hit it's a monster hit by these days standards. The fact that hte show itself is rather bad it's a another matter. But i'm afraid the numbers don't lie. It's the number one scripted show, of course it's a hit

When you have the 100th episode of DH, the most anticipated show of the whole year, you don't run it against the highest rated football game of the year aside from the Superbowl. That is just basic programming. I have to believe ABC expected lower ratings for the night as a whole, including DH.
January is full of high rated specials on Sundays. Anyone who anticipates ABC Sundays or any network Sunday not showing these specials to be at normal levels doesn't realize the competition it is going against. There's a reason why FOX and NBC ran repeats and filler this week. They anticipated the competition. Once January settles (starting next week with the exception of the Superbowl and Grammys), Sundays will be back to normal. However, ABC has blown their 100th episode which they could have used to jumpstart the night again with season highs for DH.
Not a hit? Not only it is the biggest hit this season it weekly beats GA, DH, CSI, NCIS and any other scripted drama on television.
It's the #1 scripted show on television. How exactly is that not a hit?
ABC's screwed their serials are all going down. DH and GA's numbers don't bode well for Lost.

Sara Gilbert is still listed as a regular in every new episode press release for BBT. She will be back at some point. The new character is just temporary. I am sure he will be in only 2 or 3 shows.
By the way, you can ignore virtually everything Obveeus says about BBT. He hates the show, and takes shots at it every time he gets a chance. Why he bothers to watch it I still can't figure it out.

The Mentalist is a huge hit when measured in total viewers. It gets 18-20 million viewers, but demos in the upper 3's maxing out at about 4. Although its demos are good it would not be a huge hit demo-wise. I am sure the advertisers like the show, but do not love it like some of the other shows that get huge amounts of viewers and much higher demos.
Thank you for the advice, however, what you might perhaps want to think about is to stop taking criticisms of shows you might like personally thus avoiding the need to launch silly personal attacks.

You are mistaken. The Mentalist is a Top15 show, but not even close to the #1 show. networks and advertisers use the 18-49 demo as their measure of success. Since this is a TV ratings website, there is no reason to toss that standard out the window here in favor of some less relevant measure of television status.

Didn't like it all. I was expecting something more cheerful for the 100th episode. The last 5 minutes were very good, veri emotional but overal i was disappointed

It depends how you want to measure it. Among total viewers, The Mentalist is a huge hit. Among advertisers it is a nice show, but not a big hit. It will not generate the advertising revenue that young skewing shows with similar or less viewers like DH or Lost will generate.
You call a show a "hit" based on the number of people that watch it. It may get good advirtising and demo numbers but the Office for example will never be a hit.

See that proves a point. Maybe the show does not get "hit" viewers numbers, but it is a huge hit among advertisers. I see it mentioned in advertising analysis articles all the time. I bet advertisers would rather advertise on The Office over The Mentalist.

Off the top of my head I can think of two hit shows, Two and a Half Men and Family Guy. Two and a Half Men is a very succesful comedy, and I see Family Guy stuff everywhere I go. Plus it was brought back thanks to strong DVD sales. The Office, will never be a hit.

YOU can decide what YOU consider a "hit" by any meansure YOU want to use. However, broadcast tv is a business based in commercial revenue, so that is the ultimate measuring stick. Defining what is and what is not a "hit" is ill-defined. What IS easily defined though is the revenue a show brings in. That's the only thing that matters ultimately. Mentalist pulls in enough demo eyeballs to be termed a success in the business of tv. And that's it.
