-Ratings Breakdown:
As expected, CBS was the most-watched network on Sunday, with an advantage over second-place ABC of 1.04 million viewers. But since CBS’ regularly scheduled Sunday line-up began at 7:22 p.m. ET, individual fast national results by show are excluded. What follows is a repeat of the CBS overnight analysis:
Note: due to an NFL Football overrun, CBS’ regularly scheduled Sunday line-up, which ranked first in the overnights, began at 7:22 p.m. On that note (and following a 13.7/21 for football in the 7 p.m. half hour), 60 Minutes kicked-off the evening with a dominant 13.7/21 from 7:15-8:15 p.m. That led into The Amazing Race 10 at a third-place 8.8/13 in the overnights from 8:15-9:15 p.m., followed by Cold Case (#3, 10.0/14 from 9:15-10:15 p.m.) and Without A Trace (#1, 10.5/17 from 10:15-11:15 p.m.).
ABC finished first overall among adults 18-49 and second in total viewers care of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 10.76 million; A18-49: #3, 3.1 rating/8 share), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #1, 15.39 million; A18-49: #1, 5.4/13), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 21.65 million; A18-49: #1, 8.6/19) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #2, 13.21 million; A18-49: #1, 5.5/14). Retention this week for the increasingly addictive Brothers & Sisters out of Desperate Housewives was still modest at 61 percent in total viewers and 64 percent among adults 18-49.
Over at NBC, the San Diego vs. Denver match-up on Sunday Night Football was below-average (but still on the map) at an approximate 12.68 million viewers and a 4.8/12 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Football Night in America, the pre-game, averaged an also estimated 8.47 million viewers with a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49.
The Fox comedies were also all below average as follows:
Fox/Sunday
7:00 p.m. The Simpsons (R)
Viewers: 3.75 million (#4), A18-49: #4, 1.5/ 4
7:30 p.m. American Dad (R)
Viewers: 5.73 million (#4), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#4)
8:00 p.m. The Simpsons
Viewers: 9.31 million (#4), A18-49: 4.4/11 (#2t)
8:30 p.m. American Dad
Viewers: 8.25 million (#4), A18-49: 3.9/ 9 (#3t)
9:00 p.m. Family Guy
Viewers: 9.26 million (#4), A18-49: 4.6/10 (#3)
9:30 p.m. The War at Home
Viewers: 6.55 million (#4), A18-49: 3.2/ 7 (#4)
Retention for The War at Home out of American Dad of just 71 percent in total viewers and 70 percent among adults 18-49 keeps it in the loser’s listing.
Finally, the two-episode return of Reba in the 7 p.m. hour gave the CW some mileage with an average 3.88 million viewers and a 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49. Compared to the final telecasts of sitcoms Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.36 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3) and All of Us (Viewers: 2.40 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3) in the hour on Oct. 8, this was an increase of an ample 1.50 million viewers and 40 percent among adults 18-49. Sorry, CW – I incorrectly labeled Reba based on the overnights this morning.
With an improved lead-in, 7th Heaven hit a season-high, with 4.54 million viewers and a 1.7/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. Unfortunately, the momentum stopped at 9 p.m., with a repeat of America’s Next Top Model at 1.86 million viewers and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m.
