Prime-Time Ratings:
Saturday 3/15/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 6.46 million, NBC: 5.36, CBS: 4.52, ABC: 2.61

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 2.4 rating/8 share, NBC: 1.2/ 4, CBS: 1.1/ 4, ABC: 0.9/ 3

--------------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Saturday’s Winners:
Cops (Fox), America’s Most Wanted (Fox)

-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
The night overall

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox may not be a powerhouse on Saturday, but veteran combination of Cops and America’s Most Wanted were more than enough to dominate the evening with a first-place finish in each half hour. NBC ranked in the distant No. 2 spot, followed by CBS and lowly ABC.

Two episodes of Cops (original and repeat) kicked-off the evening for Fox with an average 6.47 million viewers and a 2.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. That led into America’s Most Wanted at a typically compatible 6.47 million viewers and a 2.3/ 8 in the demo at 9 p.m. While each series may not be what you would call a “traditional” winner, for a low HUT level Saturday they are both worthy of positive mention.

NBC aired repeat episodes of its overused Law & Order franchise: Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #2, 4.63; A18-49: #2t, 0.9/ 3), Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 5.19 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4) and granddaddy Law & Order (Viewers: #1, 6.27 million; A18-49: #1, 1.6/ 5), which is poised to return next season.

Next up was CBS with its combination of a repeat of Cold Case (Viewers: #3, 3.18 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.9/ 3), a repeat of Criminal Minds (Viewers: #3, 4.58 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4) and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #2, 5.81 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5).

Last, and very least, was ABC’s encore line-up of two repeat episodes of Here Come the Newlyweds (Viewers: #4, 2.65 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3 from 8-10 p.m. – just what we needed!) and The Bachelor (Viewers: #3, 2.52 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3 at 10 p.m.). Remember the good old days of Saturday -- All in the Family, MASH, The Jeffersons, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls and Empty Nest? What happened?

As I was writing this post, the NCAA had been selecting teams into the Men's Basketball 65-team tournament.

Just so you know that this forum has a bracket contest going and you can join in from now until Thursday at noon eastern to make your brackets. The great fun here is you do NOT need to be a sports fan to win this group.

You can join for free by clicking the NCAA Final Four link below.

Also, if you want, come into the TV Talk chat room (click the light blue TV Chat Room link in my signature)

That totals up for 18.95Million viewers and a 5.6 in the 18-49 Demo. Saturday would be a Top 10 show! Wink

FOX really has found a dependable crimetime duo for Saturday nights, in much the same way as MyNetworkTV is fashioning a reliable ratings tag-team on Tuesdays with its reality combo of Street|Patrol and Jail.

I read on Mr. Hal Boedekers' TV Guy blog that Saturday Night Live drew the highest rating on Saturday night with a 5.3HH, a number that was a year-over-year increase by 6%.

Has anyone seen Nielsens on how MADtv and Talkshow with Spike Fersten has rebounded since the writers strike concluded?

wasn't BG up against L&O?

ABC’s sugary Oprah’s Big Give slipped to second (behind NBC’s aforementioned Dateline) in the 9 p.m. hour, with a 6.5/10 in the overnights.

Yes. I'm not surprised overly by the lackluster results. This looks so incredibly sugar coated that one could go into a diabetic coma by watching. The Newlyweds program actually looks like the better of the two.

Ditto! I DVRed both, but after about 5 minutes of Big Give I switched to Newlyweds, which is far more entertaining.

But I don't think it's the sugary texture of ABG that's hurting the show. It's the fact that the contestants have relied too heavily on corporate sponsors and celebrities to get the job done, and this show is looking more like The Apprentice now than Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. And The Apprentice is a tired format. I think, and you guys might think this is crazy, it's not feel-good enough, at least for what the audience expected. Big Grin
