-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Andy Barker, P.I. (NBC), the night overall
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS and Fox split leadership on this typically low-rated Saturday, with the Eye net first in total viewers and Fox’s perennial combination of Cops and America’s Most Wanted No. 1 overa;; among adults 18-49.
CBS opened the evening with a repeat of Cold Case (Viewers: #1, 7.12 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 5) at 8 p.m., followed by a repeat of Numbr3s (Viewers: #2, 5.74 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 4) and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #1, 7.20 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6) from 9-11 p.m. Fox’s Cops was second in total viewers (5.41 million) but first among adults 18-49 (1.9/ 7) from 8-9 p.m., followed by America’s Most Wanted at a winning 6.51 million viewers and a 2.1/ 7 in the demo from 9-10 p.m. Sad, isn’t it, that a performance this low is still dominant in the time period on Saturday?
The two final episodes of failed NBC sitcom Andy Barker, P.I. was almost invisible in the 8 p.m. hour, with an average (and, of course, last-place) 2.31 million viewers and a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. That makes former Conan sidekick Andy Richter 0 for 3 in the sitcom department. Andy Barker, P.I. led into repeats of the overused Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 5.30 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3) and Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #2, 6.66 million; A18-49: #2, 1.5/ 5) from 9-11 p.m.
ABC capped off the abysmal evening with repeat theatrical Shark Tale (Viewers: #4, 5.24 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 6 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of Ugly Betty (Viewers: #3, 2.90 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3 at 10 p.m.). All together now…what a night!
From my point of view the photos make it look like a comedy. Walsh, Brenneman and Daly look quite promising though.
BTW, according to imdb.com (very unreliable IMO) the show's title will be "Private Practice". That could be wrong but could be a code name as well. We will see...
Judging from the new description the spin-off might not be a drama but a dramady:
Paul Adelstein: Cooper Amy Brenneman: Violet Tim Daly: Pete Taye Diggs: Jackson Merrin Dungey: Naomi Chris Lowell: Dell Kate Walsh: Addison
Credits: Production Company: ABC Television Studio Executive Producer/Writer: Shonda Rhimes Executive Producers: Betsy Beers Director: Michael Grossman
Grey's Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes combines the heart and soul of television's top-rated drama with exciting new faces in a sun-drenched new location to create a drama with a very different vibe. It's an intimate portrait of the choices and changes we make in our search for happy lives.
Following a failed attempt at reconciliation and two disastrous affairs, neonatal surgeon Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery craves a new relationship and journeys to Santa Monica to seek advice from her med school friends, Naomi and Jackson. But she finds her idealized view of their achievements – successful marriage, 14-year-old daughter and a highly successful health cooperative – doesn't match reality.
Jackson's success as a TV health guru pushed him to divorce Naomi and now he's lonely. Fertility specialist Naomi wants love, but she doubts their boyish surfer/receptionist is the answer. The rest of the Oceanside Wellness Group staff has their own life issues. The sexy alternative medicine doc is a widower masking his grief with one-night stands. The gynecologist who doesn't know a thing about women had his car stolen by this week's Internet hookup. And the therapist doubts she's doing any good at all. Fortunately, together they're a formidable medical team doing cutting-edge work. Working with them, Addison realizes that moving to Southern California and joining her friends could be the right prescription for her own life.
Starring Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy), Tim Daly (Wings, The Nine), Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars), Merrin Dungey (Alias), Paul Adelstein (Prison Break), and Taye Diggs (Day Break, Kevin Hill). It's a warm, funny, deeply affecting character drama against the backdrop of the joys and sorrows all doctors experience while practicing medicine.

So now we can see what happens when comedies move to Saturdays. With no competition, they still lose over half their audience and 3/4 of their 18-49. Sure Andy Barker was a flop, but one would think 3 million would tune in.
All true, but I doubt NBC promoted this at all. A regularly scheduled comedy Saturday probably wouldn't work but would have more promotion.

True, but it would still struggle to pull 4 million viewers.

I went through my journals, and 15 years ago this week in the 8-9 time period on NBC Saturday's they were doubling up The Golden Girls because it was in there final season, it wasa one hour episode dealing with Rose's (Betty White) Heart Attack, and heart surgery, that Satirday night 15 years ago, had an hour long average of 31.9 million people watching, in the hour, and the 8 and 8:30 airings were ranked 4 and 5 for the week, behind Roseanne 60 Minutes and Home Improvement, I dont have 18-49 ratings just HH but I bet they were high....How times have changed.

Private Practice has been announced has the title a while ago by ABC during it's press tour. It is still a working title tough
Assuming this spinoff gets the green light--and I think it will--where will ABC put it? I mean they already have a lot of returning shows and not too many timeslots to play with. You can't put it on Sunday yet as Brothers and Sisters still needs time to be nurtured and grow. You can't put it on Thursdays as two medical shows back to back--UH HUH!!!! Tuesday is Boston Legal and Idol. Which leaves Monday or WEdnesday. And then what about the other pilots that may get green lighted as Football Wives and that one about MONEY that seems a cinch to get on the schedule. It feels like ABC may have too many shows for timeslots and some will have to wait until midseason to launch. Unless they do a half season thing and show one of these shows on Wednesday night at 8PM in the fall/winter and then Lost from winter on. What are your thoughts on this??

ABC has holes all over the place. They'll find a timeslot. I'd say Wed. at 9 after Lost, which could run nonstop and then launch something new at 8pm at midseason. I also think Brothers and Sisters gets moved to allow for another new drama to get launched post-Housewives. A move to Monday at 10pm after Dancing would work well for Brothers and Sisters.
