I disagree that is a big deal. It's the SB it supposed to get huge numbers, so to say you have the most watch SB ever isn't as great as saying you have the most watched program ever. I believe MASH and CBS own that, with their finale getting over 100 million.
There may be some value to having the next SB in terms of increased ad rates based on this year - so I'm not completely dismissing your argument, but you're forgetting the promo value that FOX will reap this year especially whit the fact that no one knows what's on because of the strike - they will have a chance to pump interest in their schedule to a record crowd.

Since this year's buzz made it huge, that means next year will command bigger ad dollars. Next year doesn't need this buzz, it can be a dull season next year, people will still watch the SB, just for the commericals, and that is where the money, and my argument lie.

Yeah MASH got 109 million so you're right, although i think SB will be rather near, maybe 100-105 millions if the games is close
Originally posted by Drew: Really? Not have the Super Bowl next year? They already have the ad money for the commerical spots for this year. If anything, next year is the year to have the SB, you can raise the rates for ads based on this years buzz. So whoever has next years SB can raise it to a cool 3 mil for 30 seconds. And if it hits 100 million, that will help Fox, but CBS or NBC will reap the benifits for next year.
When have Super Bowl rates not rose? Even the weakest games get 85 milluion plus viewers. This is not some new event that advertisers are waiting to see if it can make it. It is the advertising event of the year each and every year. How could you get better than the largest market vs the team of the decade chasing history?
But that is a totally different subject. And wouldn't you want the SB WITHOUT a strike? What are they going to promote? AI? AYSTAFG? SCC? Can't do Bones, House, Prison Break, anything, hey aren't really on the air. So yes getting 100 million is great to promote shows, but you need shows to promote to actually get the increase. Plus, House after the SB doesn't need more attention, should have put a great episode of Bones, that might have been a starter for the show, and could have jump start another night for Fox. So even though it wasn't my argument, I'll see go for next year, more money and proabably (or maybe hopefully) no strike.
But it's better to get the next year, after the buzz, because the buzz happened within the year of Fox having the Super Bowl. So with the buzz, and with NY and NE playing, next year will make the SB even bigger because of what happened this year. And to say how could it get better? Well are you asking as a fan of the NFL, because I have been rooting for NE to lose, so I didn't want them in the SB, and I wanted to GB to win because I hate Eli. But asking the NFL, they love it, and so will NBC, because they have next year's SB.

Why would next year's SB would be bigger? I don't get it. NE has broken all the records, no matter what happens there won't be as much buzz

But the adertisers know that it will depend on the match-ups next year. If the Seahawks play the Bills in the Super Bowl next year look for more like 85 million viewers. (Still, huge because the NFL has done what the NBA and MLB don't, which is promote competative balance which leads to smaller markets still being able to draw high ratings). You are acting like the advertisers don't know and consider this already. This years buzz isn't going to make much of a difference next year when you are talking about the biggest buzz event TV to begin with.
Life is Wild has gotten screwed all year from CW Now and Aliens in America repeats. I never watched it, but I bet it deserved a better time slot.
