While I agree with that, I think you will understand that if I had done so it would have only further blurred this topic in this thread.

CHUCK - I doubt if this was a burnoff, and I doubt last night's results affected its status.

Too much is being read into the split airings. I saw it as a half-smart gimmick. This is NBC we're talking about here.

Also, the impact of promotion is over-rated.

Diminishing returns set in early on. The show had a marginal identity to begin with. What was there to promote?

A show was off the off the air for a month and a half, changed nites, and did about 80-90% of its previous demo. That's it.

Glad to read this, and also glad to read the latest DHD article. But I'm afraid of getting too hopeful. Frowner

I'm goin' Joe Namath on this one and making the guarantee. If I'm wrong I'll quit posting in shame. If I'm right I'll quit posting and go back to work. So for all of you it's a win-win. However, I'm also guaranteeing a SAG strike in June.Frowner

What a sheer delight to read Pavanbadal's report of last night which showed my MyNetworkTV once again nipping at the heels of The CW.

Thursday:
The CW -> 2.00 million viewers, 0.75 A18-49 demo
MyNetworkTV -> 1.52 million viewers, 0.60 A18-49 demo

After four days, the comparative averages show MyNetworkTV close behind The CW:

The CW -> 1.780 million viewers, 0.7 A18-49
MNT -> 1.340 million viewers, 0.5 A18-49

Not since week 15 have the two nets been this close after four days. Wasn't Thursday night supposed to be the night of "crushing defeat" per the obvious from Obveeus:

Tonight, WWE Smackdown will give The CW a good viewership and A18-49 to plump up The CW weekly average, but don't be surprised to see MyNetworkTV's Saturday out-do The CW's Sunday.

Friday nights are now the only night of the week where MyNetworkTV has yet to overtake The CW.

But that day is coming. One need only look at the formidable list of promotable theatrical premieres and encores that MyNetworkTV has coming up during February, March and April, and they will soon have their Friday night smackdown with The CW.

Good job of blurring the facts. Here is a fact you left out:
Grey's Anatomy has aired 7 reruns this season.
Desperate Housewives has aired 1 rerun this season.
Given that discrepancy in the number of reruns, it should have been clear to you that including the repeat data would not provide a 'clear picture' of which show is higher rated.

In fact, one could conclude that Grey's Anatomy is clearly the #1 show because ABC actually trusts it enough in rerun that they don't have to pull the encores from the air entirely. Wink

Wow. All MNTV has to do is increase their ratings another 25-30% and they will pull even with CW encores. How do you suppose they will squeeze that increse out without actually creating any programming? Will rerun movies simply become more popular?

So, all MNTV needs is another 30-40% increase in their ratings and for CW to stop programming on Fridays and they will pull even.

How big a loss does MNTV have to suffer before you notice them getting crushed?

Yep. Their Friday numbers should equal about 3 days worth of MNTV's ratings.

Are you counting the Thursday numbers you just quoted above as 'overtaking'?

Movie reruns aren't ever going to build a network. To quote Marc's webcast...which quoted me...MNTV is a placeholder network.

It will be a shame to see you go.
Won't the companies start meetings with SAG to try to work out a deal before the current contract expires?

I'll second that. No need to quit writing here just because the strike ends soon (or not).

We are talking about actors. They will want to make sure they get more than everyone else got. Wink

They will, but there's a fairly good chance that this deal will be better than the DGA deal, but no perfect. And SAG will think that they have leverage because of this strike and try their hand.

There will be 6 - 8 new episodes (more for comedies, less for dramas) to air in April and May. Then May and June will be devoted to stockpiling episodes for the Fall incase of a SAG strike
