Can Lost compete ratings wise against CSI's repeats?

ABC needs help and one show won't cut it. The network can't survive on DWTS. It at least needs Desperate Housewives back, it's #1 scripted show.
Not being a LOST fan and being a big CSI fan, I fully expect LOST to win every week against CSI. But CSI will still hold strong with its repeats.

CSI: NY nearly always beat Lost when they were both new, and repeats of CSI get more viewers than original episodes of NY were getting last Spring. I think CSI repeats can beat new episodes of Lost unless Lost gets a significant jump in viewers.

I'm sorry, but there is no way repeats of CSI are going to beat new episodes on the only remaining must-see scripted show with new stuff. LOST is getting high internet buzz, its commercials rock, JJ Abrams' new big screen movie Cloverfield is killing at the box office, and there will be 3 hours of special LOST programming leading up to its premiere next Thursday. I think LOST will open with at least 18 million viewers, but even if it underperforms, 14 million is its floor. Plus it will certainly get more than the 3.3 demo rating that CSI rerun got. LOST got around a 6 or 7 rating in the demo...

You think that more than 4 million people who didn't bothered to watch Lost last year (including 2 million that have never watched) are suddenly going to turn in? Because it's so easy to jump in now?

Of course it will easily win in the demo, but I don't think the viewers is a slam dunk.

The 14 million it got last season was just the live numbers -- LOST is the #1 time-shifted show, with up to 25% more viewers watching it later on DVR, mainly because of its 10pm timeslot. So yes, at least 18 million will tune in for its premiere, and it will probably average 16 million minimum for the 8 episode season.

Of course Lost won in the demo, but CSI: NY beat it in viewers in 9 out of the 10 times they both aired new episodes.

Again, it was burried in no-man's land on Wednesdays at 10pm, with its lead-in being In Case of Emergency, a failed, unfunny freshman sitcom -- basically what Boston Legal has these days on Tuesdays with lead-in Carpoolers leading into it and L&O:SVU as its competitor. The fact that it kept so many viewers is a testiment to the consistency of its viewers.

When people make viewer predictions, they are almost always talking about Nielsen's numbers as reported here, not the Live+7 pumped up numbers.

Also the difference in viewers are like 5% between Lost and CSI:NY

In the demo, i'm thinking like 50%

I dont know why people hate so much Lost?

Lost will certainly win each week. Moving back to 9pm, and with CSI in repeats, things are looking good. Hopefully it'll be able to achieve Greys/Desperate Housewives numbers again.

I expect it'll average around 15 mil this season though.

CSI's repeats have been winning the most watched show of the night. CSI pulling out 14 mil and taking the viewers while Lost takes the demo and splits the viewers 13-14 mil is what I expect.

From the last time we had this discussion:

LOST
February 7--14.68 mill 6.5 demo (fast nationals)
February 14--12.77 mill 5.6 demo (f.n.)
February 21--12.89 mill 5.7 demo (f.n.)
February 28--12.774 mill 5.7 demo (f.n.)
March 7--12.34 mill 5.5 demo (f.n.)
March 14--12.12 mill 5.3 demo (f.n.)
March 21--11.97 mill 5.2 demo (f.n.)
March 28--11.52 mill 5.1 demo (final rating)
April 4--11.50 mill 4.8 demo (f.n.)
April 11--12.10 mill 5.2 demo (final rating)
May 2--12.32 mill 5.3 demo (final rating)
May 9--12.112 mill 5.0 demo (final rating)
May 23--13.862 million 5.9 demo (final--2 hour avg.)

CSI:NY
2/7 15.78 million; 4.9
2/14 14.63 million; 4.4
2/21 14.08 million; 4.1
2/28 14.04 million; 4.3
3/7(R) 11.64 million; 3.5
3/14(R) 10.29 million; 2.8
3/21 13.63 million; 4.1
3/28(R) 10.69 million; 2.9
4/4(R) 10.31 million; 3.1
4/11 12.71 million; 3.4
4/18(R) 11.05 million; 3.2
4/25 11.18 million; 3.2 (I think this might be the only time Lost beat a first run CSI: NY)
5/2 12.93 million; 3.9
5/9 12.69 million; 3.6
5/16 12.90 million; 3.9

I don't hate Lost, I just don't think it's as big as some people want to make it out to be.

BTW, since Grey's Anatomy only gained around 2 million viewers in the Live+7, I seriously doubt Lost had much more than that.

Obviously that was my point as well. Those time-shifted viewers when it was on at 10pm last season will now be able to catch it live, thus increasing its live ratings -- is that more obvious now?

Again, look at the lead-ins: CSI:NY had Criminal Minds as a lead-in, in a year it was very hot (it got the post-Superbowl slot) and dropped 15%-25% of those viewers. LOST, on the other hand, again had In Case of Emergency and build by close to 200% on those viewers.

We only have a week to find out who's right. Meet me back here in next Thursday's thread and we can discuss the results...

I agree!

CSI NY was dropping from his lead in and Lost was jumping like 200% and even 250% in the demo
