-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy victory for NBC, with the season opening NFL Football match-up between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants at an estimated 13.57 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/15 share among adults 18-49 for the prime-time (8-10 p.m.) portion. Comparably, however, the year-ago kick-off between Indianapolis and New Orleans scored a heftier 17.79 million viewers and a 7.4/22 in the demo on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006. And the Miami/Pittsburgh match-up one year before that (on Sept. 7, 2006) averaged 19.20 million viewers and a 7.8/23 among adults 18-49. Keep in mind, of course, that fast affiliate results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
Over at the CBS, Big Brother 10 opened the evening with a second-place 6.46 million viewers and a 2.2 7 among adults 18-49 (tied with Fox) at 8 p.m. So long, Renny! And go Dan! That led into a repeat of CSI at 7.27 million viewers (#2) and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 9-10 p.m.
In season-premiere news, a two-hour edition of Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares averaged a modest 5.27 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., building in each half-hour as follows:
Kitchen Nightmares (Fox)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.92 million (#3), A18-49: 2.1/ 7 (#3)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.00 million (#3), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#2t)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.45 million (#3), A18-49: 2.5/ 7 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.70 million (#3), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#2)
Compared to it’s year-ago debut (Viewers: 6.61 million; A18-49: 3.1/ 8 on Sept. 19, 2007), Kitchen Nightmares was down by 1.34 million viewers and 23 percent among adults 18-49.
ABC aired repeats of Ugly Betty (Viewers: #4, 4.15 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3) and Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: #4, 4.18 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 3) from 8-10 p.m. And the CW capped off the block with a repeat of the two-hour 90210 kick-off at 2.12 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 in the demo. Not bad for a repeat.
Night four of the Republican Convention fared as follows in the overnights at 10 p.m.:
NBC – Viewers: 8.06 million, A18-49: 3.2/ 9
CBS – Viewers: 5.08 million, A18-49: 1.4/ 4
ABC – Viewers: 4.97 million, A18-49: 1.4/ 4

Last night speech by Senator McCain appears to have done about 10% better than Senator Obama's in the FAST Nationals, although the NBC numbers may be inflated a bit by the NFL over-run.

But it's very easy to change the date. You just go into edit post, and then change the title (date) in the file folder at the top.

The CW Holds on to Third Place in A18-49 Demo After 4 Nights of Week 50
The CW's (and FOX's) decisions to open their fall skeds three weeks ahead of ABC, CBS and NBC (and five weeks ahead of MyNetworkTV) is paying nice dividends for both networks, with FOX in second place in A18-49 and viewers, while The CW is sitting pretty in third place in A18-49, although it has fallen to fifth place in viewers. ABC is having a weak week so far and is mired in fifth place in A18-49, serving as sparring partner for MyNetworkTV this week.
Week 50, First 4 Nights (Sep.1-4/08)
A18-49 Rank. Network: A18-49 / Viewers (finals)
====================================
1. NBC: 3.05 / 9,925,000 (1st)
2. FOX: 2.70 / 6,980,000 (2nd)
3. The CW: 1.75 / 3,403,000 (5th)
4. CBS: 1.63 / 5,675,000 (3rd)
5. ABC: 1.20 / 3,790,000 (4th)
6. MNT: 0.40 / 1,073,000 (6th) -> first 3 nights

Without NBC's inflation those numbers would be equal

Those ratings for Kitchen Nightmares are horrible for its season premiere. Way too low. Hole In The Wall isn't going to help FOX Thursdays and if Kitchen Nightmares doesn't pick up, the night will be DOA. FOX isn't having a good week with both PB and KN bombing in the ratings.
Continuing with FOX, today is another huge day for them. We will see if the game show shift paid off and if AYSTA5thG can get something going on Fridays.
NBC football probably should have been a little higher, but NBC isn't complaining. Good numbers for them.
Really good numbers for a 90210 repeat. About double what GG/OTH repeats do. It's probably because the show is so new but still, they have to be happy about that.

I think now, I'd be HAPPY to see BB go down. I just know the person I hated from the start will win. :/

The football would definitely done better had it not been for the 7PM Eastern / 4PM Pacific start time, due to the Republican Convention. NBC really got screwed because of that. When word first came out that their was a conflict with the NFL opener and the convention, I thought that the NFL and NBC would simply move the game to Friday night, instead of starting at an earlier time last night. I think they would have done better. I know Friday night is a much lower HUT night, but the NFL has proven that it gets ratings on any night of the week.

Kitchen Nightmares did go up against football, and it wasn't even a brand new episode per se. I dont think people really wanted to see a 10 minute recap of last year's episodes with a 3/4 minute summary of what happened a year later.
As for the RNC, I am a little surprised McCain got more viewers than Obama. What that says is either that the media is exaggerating how much of a Democratic year this is, that Sarah Palin has energized people about the Republican Party, and/or that people wanted to hear what McCain had to say..
And I have to say, McCain is not a good public speaker. At times it felt like I was watching paint dry. However, he did lay out (without really attacking Obama or going into too many issues) why he should be President. However, I think that it is fair to say that many people who are going to vote Republican would much prefer a Palin/Jindal ticket after hearing Palin speak than a McCain/Palin ticket because the new star of the party should not be the VP candidate...
But with that said, I think the VP debates should get some very good ratings, and the Presidential debates should get solid numbers as well..

Should we cut Kitchen Nightmares a bit of slack in that its debut last year was a couple of weeks later, when the 'real' television season had begun and more folks were watching TV?

What McCain had to say about uniting everyone blah blah blah didn't match the bashing tone that everyone else had in their speeches. He should start by uniting his own group.
