Please note, Glee ran from approximated 9:03pm until 10:02pm, so it, and American Idol's, numbers will change in finals.
Originally posted by CanadianTVFan: Wow the drop-off from 9 to 9:30 for "Glee" was horrendous -- even with the AI extension.
Too bad, too, because with what made it to the for-air version, you really had to stick around until the last five minutes to feel the glee (I will have "Don't Stop Believin'" in my head for the next week...)
DWTS (9-11pm) -2% NCIS (8-9pm) +13% American Idol -14%
(NCIS 8-9pm vs. year-ago NCIS 8-10pm) even Mentalist vs. year-ago NCIS (9-10pm) even Without a Trace vs. year-ago Shark even Glee vs. year-ago Hell's Kitchen -21% 90210 vs.year-ago Reaper -8% (Reaper 8pm vs. year-ago Reaper 9pm) -42%
You never know. When House started airing after Idol, it did significantly better than it did without a lead-in of note... but its retention and ratings weren't anything to write home about.
Then it grew the next week.
Then when it aired repeats of the fall episodes, they played like new episodes.
Very hard to judge off just one datum how Glee will do... but given the massive push Fox gave it, I agree that everyone was expecting better.
Perhaps Fox should have had Idol nix the Carrie performance of "Home Sweet Home" that played for the last 4 minutes of Idol, instead of going straight from the performance recap into Glee.

Ouch, i knew Glee was gonna bomb. The good news: Glee is a much easier show to promote over the summer. It's enough to promote the music. But i still think this show belongs on a smaller network. Maybe FOX should try to ship it somewhere else.

While everyone I know DID enjoy "Glee", the problem is I don't think the show is mainstream enough...it will do well with a certain audience, but I don't think its one of those shows that everyone can sit down and enjoy. It's more along the lines of "Arrested Development" (great show, small audience interest) as opposed to say something like "Friends" (not the BEST show, but everyone seemed to relate to it in one way or another).
Glee did terrible. I don't see how it's going to do any better in the fall either. If I was FOX, I'd move it to the summer. It would work much better as a summer show.
It got destroyed by DWTS finale and WAT's now series finale. Which makes me wonder how well it's going to do against CM, especially since the two leads might not be back.

CBS in 2009-10: Four New Series, Changes on Five Nights of the Week
CBS, the most-watched network, will introduce four new series this fall (sitcom Accidentally on Purpose and dramas NCIS: Los Angeles, The Good Wife and Three Rivers), with changes impacting five nights of the week. Only Wednesday and Saturday (which no network is aggressively programming) will remain unchanged.
Monday anchor The Big Bang Theory will relocate to 9:30 p.m. out of Two and a Half Men and replaced by How I Met Your Mother, which moves up one half-hour (and leads into Accidentally on Purpose, with former Dharma & Greg star Jenna Elfman). Bona fide hit The Mentalist, currently in the Tuesday 9 p.m. hour, moves to Thursday at 10 p.m. out of deteriorating CSI. Replacing The Mentalist on Tuesday is NCIS: Los Angeles, which airs out of parent show NCIS (and into The Good Wife with former ER star Julianna Margulies). And former NBC drama Medium will flip networks, heading to Friday at 9 p.m. (out of Ghost Whisperer and into Numbers).
