That's true. I just thought people assumed Journeyman was in trouble due to low viewers and a low demo, not so much for retention issues out of Heroes.

But, excluding football, Heroes is NBC's biggest ratings grabber, so there will be a fall of from it. Considering where NBC was last season, those numbers are just as strong for them and B&S seem to be for ABC, relatively speaking.

Like I mentioned earlier, Journeyman, with a 70% retention rate from Heroes is a loser because it is not a Mr. TV favorite, while Brothers and Sisters at a 70% retention is a winner, because it is a Mr. TV favorite.

Admittedly 70% isn't great, but keep in mind none of the other big hits have found something with that kind of retention. Heroes' lead-out is like 60%, Grey's is below 50%, CSI is getting around 70% from WAT (and more like 60% in demo), House doesn't even have one.

Journeyman was at 69% from Heroes last Monday. WAT was at 68%. Those are both with final numbers. B&S will be in the same range.

Now, how much have we heard how BAD Journeyman is because of its rentention rate from Heroes.

For someone with some time and the know how...

A friend of a friend told me that ABC expects to see between just under or just over a FULL ratings point jump with Grey's once the DVR numbers come out in a week...

Can someone take Grey's premiere week #s and add a point and see what the difference is??? demo and total viewers...

Maybe we can get a snapshot of what's to come??

Yep. I totally agree. But, I do think ABC is probably a bit more pleased with B&S retention and numbers out of DH than NBC is with Journeyman. I mean.....does NBC really have distinct reasons to keep Journeyman on the air if it doesn't improve beyon what it is doing?

Here are some numbers to point out:

On the year ago evening, check out the numbers for CBS' Sunday 9-11PM programs:

CBS – Cold Case
Total Viewers: 13.78 million; A18-49: 3.9/ 9

CBS – Without a Trace
Total Viewers: 14.93 million; A18-49: 4.4/10

and on the year ago week here is what Shark did:

CBS’ Shark - 14.14 million and adults 18-49 4.0/11

So Cold Case has dropped from a 3.9 in the demo to a 2.9. Meanwhile, Shark has dropped the time period demo from a 4.4 to a 2.5. And it has dropped from its own performance (on Thursday last year) from a 4.0 to a 2.5. And in total viewers Shark has dropped the time period from last years 14.93 to 11.20 this year, and has dropped its own performance (on a Thursday last year) from 14.14 to 11.20 this year.

But these show are "winners" in my book. Wink

I'm really wondering how will CW treat LIW? Wil they axe it after a couple of episodes or they'll give it some more time especially seeing the big improvement over the lead-in

Well they are doing worse than last year (much worse in fact) but still their numbers are good so they're not losers

I think Heroes can do much better than it does. Not saying that it is bad, but the premise looks like it could bring in much more new viewers.

Yes, that was decided LONG before the season started.

It actually a smart move. Give the new show as much of a lead in as possible to help it succeed. Should have done the same for Cane.

I also stated that Shark should NOT have moved from the 10pm Thursday slot and WAT should have either stayed on Sundays or helped another night.

I said the same thing thursday about WAT, and its one of my favorites.

Try not to e so thined skined. Big Grin

The following is a test of skin thickness:

You do know that WAT is failing in the ratings to the point where CBS has decided to give its timeslot a tryout for Viva Laughlin, right?

Yes, I can't imagine there were too many people who were watching Brothers and Sisters, and at 10:30 saw the NFL was a close game and switched the channel.

Again, I doubt there is much crossover between B&S and Football. If there is a drop and a high DVR number, its because its a 10pm show.

I bet the NFL has very little impact on B&S.

And last nights game was very good all through the night, so anyone interested in the agme would have watched it from the start.

But a year ago DVR's didn't count... how can we accurately do a year to year when 20% of Nielsen homes have DVRs in play? Especially at 10PM when EVERYONE is recording that hour for replay at a later day....

Exactly!

CW should've made all the efforts to keep Gilmore Girls for one more year and they should've aired OTH from the fall season. Those two shows could've been used as lead-ins for new shows. I really think Gilmore Girls would've been a great lead-in for LIW

Winners/losers is completely subjective and based on opinions. People get caught up in it too much. K-Ville had a 83% retention rate out of Prison Break and it was considered a loser. Just because there's an L somewhere next to a show doesn't seal it's fate. I do agree that B&S is definately not winner material. If anything EMHE should be there for the fact that it's cheap to make and is pulling in loads of viewers. From a profit standpoint, EMHE is ratings gold.

What do you mean DVR's did not count a year ago? Are you assuming that no homes had a DVR 1 year ago? I have had my DVR for at least 3 years.

I get confused with retention and how that figures into a show's winner/loser status. If a show is pulling in over 12 million viewers and a high demo in 18-49....even if it loses 5-6 million from the show on before, I would consider that show to be a winner based on those numbers alone. And this would go for any show, on any network, following any other show.

Both were a considerably lower 58% in the demo. B&S is skewing a lot closer to its lead-in. B&S will be the only show to lead out of a top-5 scripted show and retain >60% in the demo.

doesn't take a lot of people... ratings aren't based on people... based on a sample.... if 20 people in Chicago who are Nielsen homes switced the the game back on you'd have a 200K nielsen swing....

if the game wasn't in a HUGE market i'd tend to agree with you... but that many people in Chicago I'd bet someone of them were like" hey we might win this thing... I can hit the DVR or watch online for Bro&Sis later"
