Right now, the retention rate is just 70%. Once Finals come in on Tuesday, I bet it will drop because of the DH Runover.

70% is fine retention for B&S. You and others need to stop being so negative. Nothing makes any of you people happy when it comes to these shows.

They really have to be. None of their new shows are hits and at best can be considering receiving average ratings. The only one which does well in 18 to 34 demos is Reaper and it brings in the males more than anything else. They really need to get rid of most of it and start over. Whoever green lit these pilots made huge mistakes.

The CW is such a joke! They would do better with reruns of Reba.

I wonder if B&S is plagued by the
half-hour dropout blues again this
year. That pattern persisted for it
almost to the end of last year. That
said, I doubt if these retention #'s
are cause for alarm. Probably expected.

perhaps.... but 10:30 is right when the NFL game got interesting.... that had to effect B&S

CW - The CW better come up with something soon. Online Nation and CW Now are destroying the network. The only thing they can do is breaking records for lowest ratings. If Dawn cares about life is wild, she would movie it somewhere else. Online Nation and CW Now are not compatible lead-ins nor could you ever expect life is wild to build from it any better.

CBS seems too old-skewing. They don't seem to do much better in the demo and the network isn't getting much younger viewers into their programming. The network will grow old like its viewers.

My comments are not about the show, but about the numbers.

Admittedly 70% isn't great, but keep in mind none of the other big hits have found something with that kind of retention. Heroes' lead-out is like 60%, Grey's is below 50%, CSI is getting around 70% from WAT (and more like 60% in demo), House doesn't even have one.

Journeyman was at 69% from Heroes last Monday. WAT was at 68%. Those are both with final numbers. B&S will be in the same range.

Now, how much have we heard how BAD Journeyman is because of its rentention rate from Heroes.

All The CW pilots - Reaper, Gossip Girl, Aliens in America and Life is Wild - were great or even amazing. Dawn Ostroff green-lit a great line-up this season. I think that the CW's downfall was cancelling or holding back old shows like Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, Veronica Mars and OTH. As a result millions of viewers left the network alltogether and without an audience for promotion of new shows and good lead-ins...

That's true. I just thought people assumed Journeyman was in trouble due to low viewers and a low demo, not so much for retention issues out of Heroes.

Yes, you are totally right here. Yet somehow their shows are not "losers".

Here are some numbers to point out:

On the year ago evening, check out the numbers for CBS' Sunday 9-11PM programs:

CBS – Cold Case
Total Viewers: 13.78 million; A18-49: 3.9/ 9

CBS – Without a Trace
Total Viewers: 14.93 million; A18-49: 4.4/10

and on the year ago week here is what Shark did:

CBS’ Shark - 14.14 million and adults 18-49 4.0/11

So Cold Case has dropped from a 3.9 in the demo to a 2.9. Meanwhile, Shark has dropped the time period demo from a 4.4 to a 2.5. And it has dropped from its own performance (on Thursday last year) from a 4.0 to a 2.5. And in total viewers Shark has dropped the time period from last years 14.93 to 11.20 this year, and has dropped its own performance (on a Thursday last year) from 14.14 to 11.20 this year.

But these show are "winners" in my book. Wink

I'm really wondering how will CW treat LIW? Wil they axe it after a couple of episodes or they'll give it some more time especially seeing the big improvement over the lead-in

Again, I doubt there is much crossover between B&S and Football. If there is a drop and a high DVR number, its because its a 10pm show.

I bet the NFL has very little impact on B&S.

And last nights game was very good all through the night, so anyone interested in the agme would have watched it from the start.

The following is a test of skin thickness:

You do know that WAT is failing in the ratings to the point where CBS has decided to give its timeslot a tryout for Viva Laughlin, right?

Well quality is subjective. I don't share the same fondness for at least two of the pilots. The problem with whoever did it centers on the fact that the shows aren't pulling in the key demos they want (with the exception of Reaper) and they aren't pulling in new viewers to the network as old shows are out performing it. So in that respect, it is a failure.

But a year ago DVR's didn't count... how can we accurately do a year to year when 20% of Nielsen homes have DVRs in play? Especially at 10PM when EVERYONE is recording that hour for replay at a later day....
