-Ratings Breakdown: Unfortunately, The Yankees lost last night, extending The Baseball World Series to at least six games. So Fox, no doubt, is pleased it has at least one more night of stellar baseball ratings. On that note, game five of The Yankees versus The Phillies led Fox to Monday victory with an estimated 15.53 million viewers and a 4.8 rating/12 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Baseball World Series – Game 5 (Fox) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 17.22 million (#1), A18-49: 5.2/14 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 15.11 million (#2), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.28 million (#2), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#1) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 14.52 million (#2), A18-49: 4.7/11 (#1) 10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.27 million (#1), A18-49: 5.0/13 (#1) 10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 14.51 million (#1), A18-49: 4.8/13 (#1)
Results for any live sporting event are, of course, approximate.
Despite the added competition from baseball, ABC and CBS were still successfully on the Monday map, with CBS second in total viewers and ABC No. 2 among adults 18-49. ABC’s Dancing With the Stars was totally on par with recent levels at 16.20 million viewers and a 3.3/ 8 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.20 million (#2), A18-49: 3.0/ 8 (#3) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.81 million (#1), A18-49: 3.4/ 8 (#2) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.23 million (#1), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#3) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.56 million (#1), A18-49: 3.4/ 8 (#3)
As for tonight’s double eviction, my picks to bid adieu: Mark Dacascos and Michael Irvin.
Dancing With the Stars led into full season-renewed Castle, which finished third out of the four occupants at 10 p.m. with an approximate 9.68 million viewers and a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49. I stress estimated because a few minutes of Dancing With the Stars might have bled into the 10 p.m. half-hour. Retention for Castle out of the 10:30 p.m. portion of Dancing was 58 percent in total viewers and 71 percent in the demo.
CBS was also close to recent levels with its line-up of How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 9.05 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 9), recently introduced Accidentally on Purpose (Viewers: #3, 8.54 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 8), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #3, 13.60 million; A18-49: #2, 4.4/11), laugh-out-loud The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #3, 12.66; A18-49: #2, 4.6/ 11), which always outdelivers Two and a Half Men among adults 18-49, and veteran CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 12.47 million; A18-49: #2, 3.7/10). The positive news for Accidentally on Purpose was retention out of How I Met Your Mother of 94 percent in total viewers and 91 percent in the demo. It looks like Accidentally on Purpose is inching closer to a full season renewal.
Elsewhere, fourth-place NBC is in desperate need of a total Monday makeover thanks (or no thanks) to its combination of Heroes (Viewers: #4, 6.18 million; A18-49: #4, 2.6/ 7), canceled Trauma (Viewers: #4, 6.23 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 5) and floundering The Jay Leno Show, which dipped to 4.26 million viewers (#4) and a 1.3/ 3 in the demo (#4). Yes, Leno is clearly the biggest new flop of the young TV season.
Last was The CW’s combination of One Tree Hill (Viewers: 2.39 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3) and Gossip Girl (Viewers: 1.92 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 2), which will pick up some steam once the DVR usage is factored in.
AOP has gotten better each week. I hope it gets a full season. Jenna Elfman is adorable. And not a Castle fan at first but now I really like it. And I love Nathan Fillion.

Pisher... that may be one of the most enjoyable (and telling) posts I've read from you!
Maybe we should just wait a few weeks... months... or even years... because no matter how long Castle is on the air, it will always be a failure, right?
Is that a season low for CSI: Miami? It seems like this show has been pulling in lower than usual numbers lately. Can't be a good thing for CBS. Meanwhile, anyone else find it interesting how Heroes and Trauma saw upticks this week? Also noteworthy to point out that Trauma pulled in the same demo that Mercy has so far averaged, with a little over a million less viewers. Perhaps NBC would have been wise to go with Trauma at 8pm Wednesday, axing Mercy?
And those are just sad numbers for Jay Leno. It's a shame, too, because last night's episode was one of the funniest and most enjoyable in awhile. Perhaps baseball hurt it, but it should be doing much better than this.
Trauma pulls a 2.1 which is higher than Mercy has pulled in the last few weeks under much tougher competition and it is cancelled while Mercy gets a full season renewal? Am I the only one who isn't getting this? Mercy has to be as cheap as Trauma is allegedly expensive, because the ratings don't stack up with the renewal decision.
2.5 Men and BBT were pretty good last night. Wit all that was on, I completely forgot about The MNF game on ESPN.
Did anyone else catch Jimmy Kimmel Live last night? He gave a pretty good zinger to Melissa Joan-Hart during his Post DWTS losers interview last night. She was a good sport about it and kept a smile on her face.
The Jay Leno Show, which dipped to 4.26 million viewers (#4) and a 1.3/ 3 in the demo (#4). Yes, Leno is clearly the biggest new flop of the young TV season.
Leno is *definitely* worried about his ratings. He called the affiliates and gave this interview to defend his ratings.
quote:
It's well known that NBC affiliates are beginning to balk about this fall's "Leno effect" drain on their late news ratings. Stations in Miami, Los Angeles, and New York report losses ranging from 22% to 30% compared to last year.
quote:
Jay told B&C he personally called a "bunch" of the affiliates last week "just to get feedback"
I'm probably going to be called an AOP hater, but I'm still not sold on the additional episodes. There's definately a case for them if you look at the raw numbers, but AOP is still losing a chunk of the HIMYM audience. I understand why CBS has been so hesitant on a renewal notice, it's a very tough call.

Fits of overenthusiasm?
Noone, probably on the entire internet, has done more to raise the profile of this ordinary show than yourself. Hopefully your tireless razzing is done tongue in cheek, because you have otherwise elevated it to a "royal" status it clearly does not deserve, at least in terms of the number of keystrokes devoted to it.
