-Ratings Breakdown: Fox led the sluggish Saturday night troops care of two hours of NASCAR, which averaged 7.67 million viewers and a 2.6 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that is better than regularly scheduled occupants Cops and America’s Most Wanted.
Elsewhere, there was absolutely nothing of note to talk about. CBS opened the evening with a repeat of CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 5.25 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4 at 8 p.m.), followed by a repeat of Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 5.98 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5) and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #1, 6.16 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. ABC aired The 2008 NBA Conference Semi-Finals, which (including the 15-minute pre-game) averaged a mere 4.54 million viewers (#3) and a 1.6/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 8-11 p.m. And NBC ran an encore combination of Medium (Viewers: #4, 2.52 million; A18-49: #4: 0.6/ 2), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #4, 4.02 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 4) and Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 5.61 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4).

I really hope that next season, networks start to program originals on Saturday night once again, something more than "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted," though. I'd be willing to watch some original, good-quality, scripted shows on Saturday nights if they were offered to me.

I think the best we can hope for would be a couple good game shows (Power of 10, Super Password, 1 v 100, etc...).
I wonder if any of the nets would think about doing something similar to a Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters type of show for Saturdays. They would be very low in cost, but could generate a possible 6-7 million viewers.

Well, I've never heard of this new show, CBS: Miami, it didn't do that badly.

Why do the networks dumb down the audience that they may have by airing repeats on Saturdays? I don't get that? I already saw Cold Case or CSI. It's no wonder I don't watch network TV on Saturdays - if I do watch TV, it's PBS or cable. All I can say is I remember the days when "Golden Girls" brought in a 20 rating and "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest" came in with 28.2 and 26.5 - there are no shows that do that now. Ten years ago, American Idol would have been cancelled.

Ten years ago American Idol would have been pulling double what it does now, as would most other current shows. You can't compare distant ratings to today's expectations. Apples & oranges.

I agree about it not being useful to compare ratings then and now.
As for Saturday programming; no Cost to showing repeats no matter the ratings. In fact, while certainly not a "cash cow" repeating shows on Saturdays must generate some profit on an otherwise useless night.
The networks except for CBS do not even program on Fridays anymore, so why should they program Saturdays ? I think Saturday TV with even some of Friday TV is will be long and forgotten for the forseeable future.

What is pathetic is NBC has a nice Friday format.
Who the hell's idea was it to cancel 10 vs 100? It was skewing 10 million on Fridays, and Las Vegas was doing well too. The only thing that needed to be dropped was Friday Night Lights. Somehow, the shows that were doing well, Las Vegas and 1 vs 100 were canned, and Friday Night Lights, the real loser, is renewed. Can someone explain?
