Kind of ironic if you stop and think that DVD sales are part of the reason why the strike is happening in the first place. As suspected, this strike is gonna have some huge lasting effects on the entire industry...and my DVD shelves.
Regarding what could be shown once the strike starts having a real effect... This is a crazy, stupid and pointless idea but maybe, instead of a glut of mindless reality shows, the networks could re-air past shows that have been cancelled and remaining episodes never shown. Off the top of my head: CBS could bring back That's Life (Paul Sorvino) and show the last 4 episodes that never aired. ABC could bring back The Nine (not that I even care anymore-I have a suspicion that they were making that show up as they went). Fox: Action with Jay Mohr, The Tick, Greg the Bunny... OK, enough Fox because I'll start whining about Arrested Development, Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks again. And NBC could bring back.... ummmmm... Wow, I can't think of any NBC show worth bringing back...
DVD sales were already leveling off, and it's hardly something new to release a single season of a show in several volumes.
This is not going to have any significant effect on the DVD market.
Yes, the strike is going to cause problems for the industry as a whole. Otherwise the studios and networks wouldn't feel any pressure to resolve it. Duh.
30 Rock's 3.2 was the highest rating since its season premiere... didn't see this mentioned
And it's a tenth of a percentage point higher than the latest episode of Pushing Daisies, against much stronger competition than PD faced on Wednesday! Nobody mentioned that either!
Fox: Action with Jay Mohr, The Tick, Greg the Bunny... OK, enough Fox because I'll start whining about Arrested Development, Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks again.
And I'll start mentioning that I think all of those shows sucked, and FOX's mistake was to green light them to begin with.
Drader... I saw the last few eps of That's Life on HDNet. I loved the first season, but the second season got worse after each episode. Almost as bad as Picket Fences. But you have a point. What about shows like Still Life that never aired at all? And of course Wonderfalls.

Damn, you and Drader are the first people I've seen make convincing anti-strike arguments. The threatened return of Wonderfalls alone is reason enough to make me want the WGA to fold.
Fortunately, FOX would find the prospect of running these shows again even scarier.
I guess WMC is not good enough for Thursday night, but I am a avid ABC watcher and I didn't know about WMC until Thursday while watching Ugly Betty... They could have advertise the show better
Are you on the record saying 30 Rock will not get renewed? Or does your programming power only include assuring PD cancelation?
We have no powers at all here--we just make educated guesses. Or in your cases, HOPEFUL guesses, which are about the suckiest guesses in the universe. Don't believe me? Ask all the Veronica Mars fans who were here last season, and kept asking me how I was going to feel when VM came back for a fourth season. I guess we'll never know.
I think PD and 30 Rock are both very dodgy candidates for renewal--all the more because the networks are not so terribly happy with their showrunners at present. I think all the showrunners who went on strike from showrunning, as well as writing, had better have really good ratings for their shows.
30 Rock is actually doing better than PD, on a much tougher night, and costs less to make--but it's a two time loser now. And it's declining from its lead-in, and not contributing anything to its lead-out.
It was just barely renewed last time. I think it's a goner this time.
