Lots of negativity regarding the WMC debut on Thursday. It did better than Big Shots. Despite whatever advertising existed for this timeslot change, it takes viewers a couple of weeks to find new shows. WMC would need several weeks in that timeslot before it could be called a 'failure' given the good numbers it got in its first week there. That being said, I still think that october Road has shown the most potential/compatibility in that timeslot.

ER grew 3.5million viewers and 19% in the demo from its lead-in.

Scrubs and 30 Rock need to hold all their numbers when they go into reruns or they need to be shelved.

Perhaps, but I make it 3-2 that the last episode of "Greys" will come sooner than CSI's.

Not from me--it was a stupid idea, from start to finish, and it cost CSI quite a few viewers--but few of those viewers will come back now, whereas the viewers who DID love that relationship (for some twisted abnormal reason) are now going to run off bawling their eyes out.

Honestly, this kind of subplot always hurts this type of show over the long run. I think they ended it way too late, and now they're going to be paying the toll.

To throw my hat into the "30 Rock will never catch on" ring again:

30 Rock's first six, season 1 (demo):
2.9, 2.3, 2.2, 1.7, 2.3, 2.7
First six avg.: 2.35
Total season avg. (which may be more accurate, since the first four were pre-Comedy Night Done Right): 2.7

30 Rock's first six, season 2 (demo):
3.4, 3.0, 2.6, 3.1, 3.1, 3.2
First six avg.: 3.07 (up 30% year-to-year)

The show broke 3.0 twice last year in 21 airings, and this year has broken 3.0 five times in six airings. If you're a viewers person, the show broke 6 million viewers four times in 21 airings last year, and six times in six airings this year.

Those are the numbers. I'll let the "30 Rock will never catch on" crew provide the context.

STANDINGS | CaseyM wins week 9! | TV-Fanatic wins Olympics! (LINK) | Season Top 5 (thru 3/9):
1. Douglas (2882) 2. spotupj (2804) 3. yankeesrj12 (2518) 4. Ammit (2480) 5. WlcmZ.Texas (2180)

Context for 30 Rock's ratings 'rise' over last season: TIME SLOT CHANGE.

I guess you could say it's 'catching on' in the same way Ron Paul's Presidential campaign is. Roll Eyes

Why is this show called "deteriorating" and no others are? Aren't most shows down 10 percent from a year ago? Isn't a 10 million viewer show and 3.5 demo rating still very good in today's world?

Thank you! It's so annoying.

Yup. And The Office is also substantially up year-to-year, despite being in the harder slot and with a weaker lead-in than last year. I guess it was just a brilliant piece of deceptive scheduling by NBC!

ive watched 30 rock and thought it was mildly funny...and your statistics are accurate but it is easy to see that the larger lead-in from earl vs scrubs is the main reason for the rise.

30 rock alone would fall flat...

Seriously, the only reason I've EVER had my TV tuned to 30 Rock was because I was waiting for The Office to come on.

And I'm sure it's also gotten a lot of help from Earl.

Nothing is ever going to be enough. 30 Rock just isn't a keeper. But I'll agree that if NBC was going to cancel just one of their two pointless 2006 shows within shows last season, they were right to whack Studio 60 first.

It is difficult to believe that a large amount of people were watching CSI for an hour every week to get a few minutes of Grissom and Sara in the same scene together. They were never a TV couple in any traditional sense.

I'm tired of the "people think 30 Rock is funny, because they're told it's funny." No. To me, it's funny because I laugh. End of story.

Honestly, I agree that from a ratings standpoint it should've been axed last year. My point has always been that if it was good enough to keep last year (arguable, but NBC did keep it), it's got to be good enough to keep this year. Especially considering the rest of the network is free falling.
