Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 2/05/07

The following results are based on the fast national ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 14.93 million, NBC: 13.02, Fox: 11.86, ABC: 7.98, CW: 2.82

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 5.0 rating/12 share, NBC: 4.8/12, Fox: 4.6/11, ABC: 3.3/ 8, CW: 1.2/ 3

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Deal or No Deal (NBC), Prison Break (Fox), Two and a Half Men (CBS), The Rules of Engagement (CBS), Heroes (NBC), 24 (Fox), CSI: Miami (CBS)

-Yesterday’s Losers:
Everybody Hates Chris (CW), All of Use (CW), Girlfriends (CW), The Game (CW), Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC), In Style: Celebrity Weddings (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS opened the week in an unusual two-tier victory, with a first-place finish in total viewers and adults 18-49. NBC was second, followed by Fox, ABC and a depressed CW. NBC, as usual, opened the evening on a winning note courtesy of Deal or No Deal at a healthy 17.33 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/12 share among adults 18-49. Tied for second overall in the hour was CBS comedies How I Met Your Mother and The Class, both at above-average performances, and Fox’s Prison Break. Take a look:

Monday 8-9 p.m.
How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - 8 p.m.
Viewers: 10.78 million (#2), A18-49: 3.9/10 (#3)

The Class (CBS) – 8:30 p.m.
Viewers: 9.72 million (#3), A18-49: 3.6/ 9 (#4)

Prison Break (Fox)
Viewers: 10.14 million (#3), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#2)

Fans of The Class may want to note that the season, or series, finale is slated for March 5.

Fourth at 8 p.m. was ABC’s already renewed Wife Swap at a typical 8.40 million viewers and a 3.5/ 9 among adults 18-49, followed by the CW’s disappointing Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 3.15 million, A18-49: 1.2/ 3), which remains down by double-digit percentages year-to-year from its former Thursday 8 p.m. time period, and All of Us (Viewers: 2.74 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3). After three low-rated seasons, isn’t it time for the CW to swing the axe on All of Us?

In series-premiere news, CBS sitcom The Rules of Engagement was amply sampled, with 14.89 million viewers (#1) and a 5.2/12 among adults 18-49 (#2). Comparably, retention out of lead-in Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #1, 17.77 million; A18-49: #2, 5.8/13) was 84 percent in total viewers and a solid 90 percent among adults 18-49. Retention out of Two and a Half Men for recent occupant The New Adventures of Old Christine was only 79 percent in total viewers and 81 percent among adults 18-49. In other words, consider this a very positive start for The Rules of Engagement.

As for the premiere episode, here are a few observations:
1. The main apartment building the sitcom is set in looks like Will & Grace’s old address.
2. The apartment that Megyn Price and Patrick Warburton occupy looks like Paul and Jamie Buchman’s old digs on Mad About You. The only thing missing is Murray.
3. The show would be considerably better if it dumped smarmy David Spade.

Bona fide NBC hit Heroes was second in the 9 p.m. hour in total viewers (14.56 million) and first among adults 18-49 (6.4/15) -- up 28 percent in the demo from lead-in Deal or No Deal. Fox’s potent 24 remained competitive, meanwhile, at 13.58 million viewers and a 5.0/11 among adults 18-49, building from lead-in Prison Break by 3.44 million viewers and 22 percent in the demo.

Also at 9 p.m. was ABC’s Supernanny (Viewers: #4, 9.55 million; A18-49: #4, 3.8/ 9), which increased from lead-in Wife Swap by 1.15 million viewers and nine percent in the demo, and CW sitcoms Girlfriends (Viewers: 2.72 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3) and The Game (Viewers: 2.66 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3). Although you certainly cannot deny how compatible the four CW Monday comedies are, the erosion year to year remains a concern.

CBS’ CSI: Miami remained a lock at 10 p.m., with 18.20 million viewers and a 5.7/14 among adults 18-49. In the distant No. 2 spot was NBC’s hiatus-bound Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (Viewers: 7.18 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8), followed by ABC special In Style: Celebrity Weddings at 5.60 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 among adults 18-49. As a reminder, NBC mob drama The Black Donnellys debuts in the Monday 10 p.m. hour on March 5.

Wow, Studio 60 certainly capitalized on the absence of What About Brian.

Not.

Boy, Heroes really is a bona fide hit! I can't believe 24 isn't doing as strongly, or putting a damper on the NBC drama. Not to mention the double-digit percentage differences in the demo between 24 and Heroes. Yikes!

At first I never wanted to say anything but these consistent ratings over the past 3 weeks prove what I said a long time ago. That Heroes would beat24 in the 18-49 demo. And all of you just kept on saying there is no reason why 24 can't win the 18-49 demo. Well it looks like there is a reason and that reason is Heroes.

While 'The Class' is ending its season in 4 weeks (and without a "full" season), I'm not completely sold on the idea of it not coming back. It is one of my guilty pleasures that I've taken into my home at 8:30 after 7th Heaven moved from Monday and its ratings have actually been increasing some since the new year.

Not to mention that I don't think 24 is all that amazing this season. It seems that every episode is just another way for Jack to show off his torturing powers. I'm not enjoying this season as much and I could start watching Heroes live pretty soon, rather than just tivo'ing it.

"Black Donnellys" gets the benefit on March 5 of premiering after "Heroes" airs another mini-cliffhanger before a multi-week hiatus. How is NBC programming the weeks following, in order to give the new show a solid lead-in while "Heroes" is gone?

Heroes was 1 million up from a weak ago while 24 was 500.000 down.

The Rules of Engagement was pretty funny... as pilots go. Walburn and Spade use their character/acting history to their advantage.

I guess that 35% drop off never happened Smiler.

I will watch it again, but as with ANY new series, it will take a few more episodes to either make me a fan or drop it.

If CBS decides to keep Christine, perhaps having it lead off at 8pm would be the best choice. Then HIMYM, Two and a Half Men, then Rules.

Prison Break was amazing last night! I'm glad to see it did so well. 24 had its best episode of the season too, in my opinion. Both were great!

God,I hope abc doesnt stick with this tired and boring Mon. night schedule next season. If they want continue to skew female friendly I think Mr. and Mrs. Smith would be a good fit to tentpole this night. I would move wife swap and supernanny to other nights. I actually would move one of those shows to to Sun. at 7 and move AFV to Fri. at 8.

Great for HIMYM. I decided to record it while watching Prison Break, and it was absolutely hilarious. Silly, but hilarious. I hope it can at least come close to 10M next week.
