So, if TGW is One & Done, because of its demo numbers, then Castle should not be far behind, right?

For starters, the Good Wife could very well be a one and done series, going the way of previous women 35+ demo skewers- to the grave yard. Private Practice, against some creative and time slot issues, has survived through 3 seasons and will likely make it to 7 or 8.
I am not certain it is any more expensive than an episode of Bones, I do agree that it is in the wrong slot.
But, to FOX's defense, there really isn't anywhere else for it to go. Sundays are booked with the Toons Mondays are House/24 Tuesdays are SYTYCD/AI Wednesdays is were they wanted Glee, so as to be after SYTYCD/AI Fridays are a death slot for FOX right now, so that ONLY left Thursdays.
The only other place it could have gone was after HOUSE this fall, but LTM would have been slaughtered on Thursdays. Its a net gain with the current schedule for the two shows.

Nice uptick for CSI and The Mentalist. CSI finally back over 17 million and Mentalist keeping a nice two week tab of over 16 million...i dont get why survivor dipped like 500,000 though

I don't think FOX would be satisfied with 2.5, but I also think they'd accept less--in the short-term. In this timeslot. But they can't accept this long-term.
At 2.5 on Thursdays for FOX is acceptable. Bones has been in that range most of the season and no one is calling for it to be canceled. And before you go with the lower HUT at 8pm, Bones as less competition. NBC at 8pm is very weak & FF is looking like a crash & burn series, trending downward as the season progresses.
9pm Still has 3 Powerhouse series on the other 3 Networks.

Yes, Fringe is an expensive program--a one hour scripted drama. Bit pricier than Castle, I'm sure--but also attracting more desirable viewers. Castle is low-rent (heh). Skews older than Leno. And it's expensive too, much as its fans try to deny that.
Putting Fringe in that timeslot was like kicking the tires, which are seriously deflated, but not yet punctured--the indicators are worrying, but not yet fatal, because of the severity of the competition.
The real problem is not the timeslot (which they could change at any time) but scripts, a problem which has gotten more severe since the uneven but entertaining first season. They just don't know where to go with it, or how to pull the various character threads together. There isn't a strong vision there, and the further they go, the bigger a problem there will be. Everybody's scared to make the big decisions, and the result is a show that usually feels very perfunctory in the way it deals with events that are anything but.
The right choice (as with Castle) is to pull the plug. Fringe probably can't get back where it was--Castle could never hope to get there at all, ever. But having spent some time working with a show, networks tend to hesitate about making that choice. FOX has spent more time and money on Castle--the Concorde Fallacy dictates they'll probably spend more.
Castle is more of an Edsel than a Concorde. Different fallacy.

Grey's got a 8.4/21 W18-34 last night.
Wow, no wonder that the CW is in no hurry to kick SPN out of that slot. Their teeny shows aimed at this very audience would be slaughtered there
