Oh, ok thanks. I really do not keep up with the ratings for the Superbowl and the shows afterward. So I had no idea what was considered high and weak ratings for the shows that followed the football game.

Actually, tying The Office is quite an achievement for that show these days. Over the last month or more it's been well behind. But nobody ever talks about it. Wink

This had to be one of the better episodes of Survivor I have ever seen. Even if Russell does not win, he IS the best player of the game ever.

quote:
CBS’ Survivor Samoa dominated the 8 p.m. hour, with 13.19 million viewers and a 4.0 rating/11 share among adults 18-49. Comparably, this was right on target with the year-ago telecast set in Gabon

About what I thought it would draw in the demo, about a 15% increase, + or -
quote:
CSI to an above-average 16.89 million viewers (#1) and a 4.0/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m. That was the most-watched show of the evening.

30 Rock will win more emmys, no doubt. But I think Modern Family may actually get the win for best comedy. ABC hasn't won best comedy in years, so they may put a lot of promotion behind the Emmy campaign. That is if the Emmys don't reward the Big Bang Theory a season too late.

And don't count out Fringe just yet. Fox in the Fall pre-Idol is different than Fox in the Spring with it.

Right answer, trebek. Expect an avalanche of attention on year-end top 10 lists, and award recognition (Golden Globe, etc.) for Modern Family.... which hopefully leads to some Emmy attention. It is the funniest thing on TV lately. In fact, its biggest competition may not come from 30 Rock - it may come from Glee, which will have even more attention at year-end.

I still like 30 Rock, but I think this season has been uneven, and its losing a bit of its cache, in my opinion.

The Mentalist was very, very good last night. A slightly different dynamic with the addition of the other Sr. CBI agent, the antagonist of the story lines.

Thursday 10 p.m.
The Mentalist (CBS)
Viewers: 15.58 million (#1), A18-49: 3.5/10 (#2)

NBC hasn't had a family comedy in years - they abandoned that genre in the 90's with their urban, adult blockbusters like Frasier, Friends and Seinfeld. Though wouldn't most family show viewers (kids and parents) not stay up to watch Jay, let alone 9:30?

Forgot about Glee. It is awfully un-even, but if it submits the right episodes.

I'm sorry but why are those demos so important? Do people now count if they are over 49? That is pretty insulting.

CSI has 2 million and a half more viewers than Grey and has beat them all season long in viewers, after 9 years on the air and losing two of their most popular actors.

Grey got back both Izzie and Meredith yesterday and couldn't even crack the 15 million.

The Mantalist beats PP by 5 to 6 million every week and basicallyhave the same demos, but because PP beats it by .4 in the demo, it beats it handily even though TM had 5 million more viewers?

In what world?

The success will be IF CSI can stay closer to the low 4.0 demo than the mid 3 demo it has been getting this season. If it is just a one time flux, then the "stint" did not work. This was not just a Sweeps stunt to pump numbers, but a quick fix to hopefully win back viewers that left after Grissom left.

I don't think FOX would be satisfied with 2.5, but I also think they'd accept less--in the short-term. In this timeslot. But they can't accept this long-term.
At 2.5 on Thursdays for FOX is acceptable. Bones has been in that range most of the season and no one is calling for it to be canceled. And before you go with the lower HUT at 8pm, Bones as less competition. NBC at 8pm is very weak & FF is looking like a crash & burn series, trending downward as the season progresses.

9pm Still has 3 Powerhouse series on the other 3 Networks.

The CW affiliate in San Francisco aired the 49ers/Bears game last night. Supernatural didn’t air at all in the SF market, its numbers will likely fall in the final ratings. Vampire Diaries aired after the game, so it’s not clear how its final ratings will fare. Source

Basically, any ratings for TVD and SPN are highly preliminary. Too bad. TVD won't drop much since it did air, SPN didn't though and the ratings will drop a lot. As I said, too bad, it was a pretty funny, jump-the-shark-y episode.

It's too bad that NBC's numbers are so low. I have to say this is the first time in long time, that I've really loved all four NBC comedies on Thursdays.

But, had either of those series had been launched after a Super Bowl their quick trend downward in the ratings would just be that more dramatic than it is now. That is the reason why the Nets have backed off from launching new shows after the SB. If it fails, it is a BIG public failure.

NBC needs to find comedies of a more mass appeal nature.
